Boost for St Patrick's Athletic as Stephen Kenny springs selection surprise
St Patrick's Athletic have been boosted by the return of two key midfielders for their crucial Premier Division clash with Waterford.
The Saints are bidding to bounce back from last Monday's 4-0 hammering at Tallaght Stadium to Shamrock Rovers - and they are also defending a 15-game unbeaten home record.
Kenny, speaking on Thursday ahead of the game, revealed that midfielder Romal Palmer had suffered a setback in his recovery from hamstring surgery.
Along with that news and the suspension of Jamie Lennon, Pat's were also set to be without Chris Forrester and Kian Leavy against Waterford, as they recovered from groin and ankle injuries respectively.

Kenny had previously ruled Forrester out until after the summer break, while Leavy missed the Rovers game after picking up his injury in last Friday's 3-2 comeback win against Cork City.
However, in a surprise development, both players have been included in the 11 to face Waterford.
Writing in the match programme ahead of the game, Kenny addressed the defeat to Rovers.
'We know we only have ourselves to blame for our defeat in Tallaght on Monday,' the Pat's boss wrote.
'Overall we played quite well in the first-half, created chances and were denied a certain penalty, but we made it impossible for ourselves with the goals we have given away, which made it difficult to come back from, and of course everyone was hugely disappointed.'

Drogheda start FAI Cup defence against Crumlin United, holders Shels handed tough opener
Drogheda United's defence of the Sports Direct Men's FAI Cup will begin with a home tie against Crumlin United following the second-round draw today. Kevin Doherty's side were paired with the Dublin outfit, who were 4-2 victors over Lucan United in the first round. Fellow Leinster Senior League side Killester Donnycarney have also Premier Division opposition in their sights after being handed a home tie against Bohemians. Last year's finalists Derry City will travel to face Treaty United while league champions Shelbourne will also be in Limerick to face Fairview Rangers. One provincial league club is guaranteed to be in the third round with Salthill Devon hosting Tipperary's St Michael's UCC, conquerors of Ringmahon Rangers, who were in the news this week due to an expected €3million payday following Caoimhín Kelleher's move to Brentford, have been handed an away tie to Finn Harps. Current Premier Division leaders Shamrock Rovers will have home advantage against Wexford. Padraig Harrington narrowly misses out on US Open qualification – but hope remains for another Irish ace
PADRAIG Harrington fell just one shot short of a playoff place for US Open qualification. But the Dublin native managed to turn it around with a sensational first nine of his second round. Harrington produced back to back birdies on the third and fourth followed by three in a row on the seventh, eighth and ninth. However, a bogie on the 17th hole would prove costly as he slipped out of the qualification race. A birdie on the last hole wasn't enough for the 53-year-old as he missed out on the top six by just one shot. The Irish golfer has not qualified for the US Open since 2023, where he finished tied 27th. His all-time best finish in the competition was back in 2012 at at Olympic Club where he finished tied fourth. A weather delay caused the competition to be delayed until today with McDowell ten shots into his second round. He is just three shots short of the top four qualification spots with eight holes to go.
