Muncie man accused of sexually assaulting 5-year-old girl
MUNCIE, IN — A Muncie man was arrested after he was allegedly found sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl. Brent Andrew Billings, 54, was being held without bond on Tuesday, Aug. 19, in the Delaware County Jail. He was being held on suspicion of four counts of child molesting, two of them Level 1 felonies carrying up to 40 years in prison. According to court documents, Muncie police on Aug. 18 were sent to Billings' South Macedonia Avenue home after a woman reportedly found him "with his pants down laying over" the child, whose pants were also down. "I guess I'm going to jail," the Muncie man reportedly told the woman. According to an affidavit, Billings later "barricaded himself inside his home with a shotgun threatening to kill himself." More: Delaware County deputies: Softball coach accused of seducing student athlete The child was later interviewed and, using "anatomically correct" dolls, described how she had repeatedly been sexually abused by Billings, police said. The child recalled in particular how one assault "felt bad," according to the affidavit. After being taken into custody, the Muncie man was taken to Muncie City Hall, where he reportedly told police, "I've been accused of this before and I didn't do it." He declined to be interviewed and asked to consult with an attorney. Delaware County Prosecutor Eric Hoffman's office will determine whether formal charges will be filed. Brockton High School teacher accused of paying underage male for sex act, prosecutors say
A Brockton High School teacher faced a judge today after being arrested on sex trafficking charges. 35-year-old Matthew Cunningham, the high school's choir director, is facing charges of sexual conduct for a fee and trafficking of a person for sexual servitude, a Brockton District Court clerk told Boston 25 News. The Plymouth County District Attorney's office says Cunningham was arrested Tuesday morning in his Brockton home following a months-long investigation by Massachusetts State Police and Brockton police. Cunningham is accused of meeting up with an underage male on April 27, performing a sexual act on the victim and then paying the victim through an app. App administrators contacted the FBI after flagging the transaction between an adult and a minor. The FBI then contacted Brockton police. Cunningham was immediately placed on paid administrative leave following his arrest, according to a Brockton schools spokesperson. 'Our priority at this time is the safety and well-being of our students, and we are actively working to marshal the resources necessary to support the Brockton High School community, especially those who are feeling in any way impacted by this situation,' school district spokesperson Jordan Mayblum said. 'As we have more details about the support available to the BHS community, we will share that with families directly.' Cunningham pleaded not guilty in court on Tuesday. He was held on $25,000 with the conditions that he stay away and have no contact with the victim or Brockton High School, that he stay off social media, that he surrender his passport, and remain in the state. Prosecutors requested that he be held on $50,000 bail. As the investigation continues, investigators will conduct a forensic examination of his cell phone. Boxer Julio César Chávez Jr. arrested, jailed after being deported to Mexico
Boxer Julio César Chávez Jr. was deported from the United States and entered a prison in the northern Mexico state of Sonora, according to the country's national arrest registry. Chávez had been arrested in the U.S. in July and Mexican president Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed on Tuesday, Aug. 19 that the 39-year-old had been deported to Mexico. A former middleweight world champion, Chávez was arrested July 2 in Southern California and then detained by ICE, according to the Department of Homeland Security. Mexican prosecutors allege he acted as a henchman for the Sinaloa Cartel, which Washington designated a foreign terrorist organization earlier this year. Chavez Jr's lawyer and family have rejected the accusations. Mexico's national arrest registry showed that he was arrested at a checkpoint in the border city of Nogales and transferred to a federal institution in Sonora's capital of Hermosillo. Chávez is a Mexican citizen and was being processed for expedited removal from the United States after his arrest, according to DHS, which said Chávez has an active arrest warrant in Mexico for his involvement in organized crime and trafficking firearms, ammunition, and explosives. His arrest came four days after losing a high-profile boxing match to celebrity boxer Jake Paul. Chávez, the son of legendary Mexican fighter Julio César Chávez Sr., held the WBC middleweight title in 2011 and 2012. He was critical of immigration raids in Los Angeles. In August 2023, Chávez entered the country legally with a B2 tourist visa that was valid until February 2024. Chávez was on a scooter by his home in Studio City, a neighborhood in Los Angeles, when he was detained by ICE agents, according to the Associated Press, which also reported Chàvez would appear in court Monday. In January 2024, Chávez was arrested in Los Angeles on charges of felony gun possession charges after police said they found him in possession of two AR-style ghost rifles, according to ESPN and the Los Angeles Times. He pleaded not guilty to the gun possession charges and agreed to enter a residential treatment program, according to those reports. Court records indicate Chávez was granted pretrial diversion. As of the last progress report on June 18, he was still in the program, said Greg Risling of the Los Angeles County District Attorney's June 25. In its press release, DHS stated former President Joe Biden's administration allowed Chávez to reenter the country in January and paroled him into the country at the San Ysidro port of entry in California. Chávez Jr. says ICE immigration raids 'scared me' Chávez trained in Los Angeles before the fight against Paul and addressed the immigration raids that triggered protests in the city's downtown. "It even scared me, to tell you the truth, it is very ugly,' he told the Los Angeles Times for a story published June 23. 'I don't understand the situation, why so much violence. There are many good people and you are setting an example of violence to the community.' He also addressed federal agents wearing masks and not identifying themselves while targeting workers who appeared to be immigrants, according to the Los Angeles Times. 'Seeing children left alone because their parents are grabbed,'' Chávez said. '... That is common sense, we are people and we are going to feel bad when we see that situation.''
