For many, the Datsun 240Z was a first love, or at least one that has slipped away. To see one almost perfectly preserved in a US Army veteran's personal garage is enough to take your breath away. It's even enough to make Dennis Collins, a famed hunter of rare rides, take a step back and marvel.Collins has shared his experience of not only seeing this special classic Nissan sports car for the first time, but how it came out after his restoration team aimed to correct even the smallest of issues. Not that there are many of those, thanks to meticulous care paid to the special ride for decades.
The first and only owner of this 240Z tells Dennis he was in the US Army and stationed in Africa, in Ethiopia to be exact, when he bought the car. The Army had the Datsun shipped to him so he could drive it while in Africa, then shipped it back to the States when his deployment was over.
Originally, the guy was supposed to get a red car with tan interior. We've seen plenty of 240Zs with that color scheme and they always look nice. But this lime paint (Nissan calls it Yellow along with Code 919, if that isn't confusing. That's why some people call is Tennis Ball or Highlighter instead.) isn't nearly as common and it's actually pretty cool to see, especially in such excellent condition.
Speaking of that, with just 38,000 miles on the Datsun, there isn't much wrong with it. Sure, it hasn't run since the early 90s, but the Fairlady Z isn't a mess. To get it out of the garage where it's sitting, the guys just have to install the rear struts and put the wheels back on.
All the original documents for the car are present and in excellent condition. Plus, the man kept his license plate from Ethiopia, which is part of the Z's story.
After two and a half years of work, Collins shows the breathtaking results. The 240Z has been restored to its original glory and you should watch the video to see it in detail.

This Might Be Nissan's New Sedan Before You're Supposed to See It
Update: This story has been updated with more information regarding Nissan's EV concept in China. Nissan has a massive product onslaught planned over the next few years. Alongside the latest Kicks and the updated Murano SUVs, the Japanese automaker has a new Leaf coming to the US as early as next year. But if these patent filings are any indication, there could be even more products on the horizon—and soon. Nissan recently filed a patent with the World Intellectual Property Organization, as uncovered by Top Gear Philippines . The patent was filed in China on September 14 of last year and officially registered on May 9, 2025. It shows an updated Nissan sedan with the brand's latest design language. Nissan Patent Images Photo by: WIPO It's unclear whether these images show a new Sentra, Altima, Maxima, or something different entirely. The photos look nearly identical to the Evo concept from earlier last year, though they weren't officially filed until after that concept debuted. It could potentially be a production version of that vehicle. The patent also bears a similar resemblance to the Chinese Nissan N7 , but that sedan is larger and has more distinct cues. If this is a US-bound model, our best guess would be all-new Sentra or a revived Altima, which may be discontinued in the US after this year. The front fascia bears the automaker's new angular headlight treatment, which we've seen on the upcoming Leaf and a few of Nissan's previous concepts. The back end, meanwhile, has a slim light bar that encircles the trunk lid and stretches out to the rear bumper on either side. The profile almost makes it look like a fastback, which leads us to believe this is a mid-size sedan as opposed to a compact. We've seen spy photos of Nissan testing a sedan prototype in Michigan that looks nearly identical to the patent images pictured here. But even in those spy photos, it's difficult to tell if the car in question is the smaller Sentra or the mid-size Altima. Photo by: WIPO Photo by: WIPO In those spy photos, we also see an exhaust system, which means Nissan won't go full EV for its next sedan. Our best guess is a new hybrid system, potentially the turbocharged 1.5-liter hybrid unit from the plug-in-hybrid Frontier —which won't come to the US. That powertrain delivers 402 horsepower in the plug-in truck, but a detuned version of that could make sense in the smaller Sentra or Altima sedans. If this is indeed a new Sentra, don't expect to see a production version before 2027. The current model is still on sale in the US, and it likely won't change for 2026. With the Altima rumored to be discontinued after this year, we could see a new version of that sedan before the end of 2025. If we're lucky. Disneyland Autotopia Car Crashes Off The Track
Read the full story on Backfire News One of the cars at the Disneyland Autotopia ride in Anaheim, California went off the track, crashing in the dirt and foliage. We've been on the ride ourselves many times and never imagined such a thing was even possible with all the guardrails and such, but there are photos and video to prove it Disney and theme park aficionado Laughing Place posted the photos and video of the crash aftermath to X. While he was just as shocked as we were, he did note it didn't appear anyone was injured in the freak incident, which is a good thing. After all, we can't have any tragedies in the happiest place on earth, right? While we would think this is a first in the ride's 70 year history, it's apparently not even close. Another X user called The Infernoman who claims to have been at one point a trainer and working lead for the Autotopia ride confirmed this sort of thing has happened in the past. Saying it was 'very rare,' the guy said he has seen a car go completely off the tracks in the past, noting the off-road part of the ride is where it's most likely to occur. He goes on to explain that if one of the cars is hit hard from behind in the area where you make a U-turn, it could in fact get knocked off the track. That might be why workers at the ride emphasize not ramming into the back of the car in front of you. The ride was immediately shut down and everyone in the cars had to get out and walk to the exit with help from employees. Disneyland had the ride up and running again soon after the incident, so whatever happened it must have been an easy fix.
