PFI made hit list of 950 people: NIA to court

Indian Express6 hours ago

Objecting to the bail applications of four activists of banned Popular Front of India (PFI) in the 2022 murder of an RSS worker, NIA informed a special court that the Muslim outfit prepared a hit list of 950-odd persons from other communities to be eliminated.
The NIA submission has figured in the order of the special court in Kochi, which on June 11 had rejected the bail application of four PFI workers, who were arrested in the murder of RSS worker A Sreenivasan in Palakkad in April 2022. Out of 73 alleged accused, 58 were arrested.
The NIA, in its submission, said PFI wanted to eliminate those who go against the interest of the organisation. Through their 'Reporters Wing', a quasi-intelligence division of the PFI, the outfit collected information of prominent personalities, leaders of other communities, especially the Hindu community. The data is compiled at the district-levels and communicated to the state hierarchy. The details are regularly updated and utilised to 'target' the individuals.
It said PFI had trained its cadres for collection of such data and had stored them besides providing the same to their assault teams in 'Service Wing' for attack as and when decided by their leadership.

Cuomo conceded the race on Tuesday (June 24), four years after stepping down as governor amidst sexual harassment accusations and alleged mismanagement of the COVID-19 pandemic response. Mamdani, an aspiring rapper turned politician and the son of Indian-American filmmaker Mira Nair and scholar Mahmood Mamdani, leveraged a strong social media presence to connect with voters. He has nearly a million followers across Instagram and TikTok, where he shares engaging videos, often featuring him navigating New York. With the Democrats nationally still grappling with the aftermath of Trump's presidential election last year, Mamdani's victory in this high-profile city race has done little to calm their nerves. Democracy placed under arrest by Congress government 50 years ago: PM Modi

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday set the tone for the commemoration the 50th anniversary of Emergency, describing it as one of the darkest chapters in India's democratic history. Attacking the then Congress government led by Indira Gandhi, he said it was as if it had placed democracy under arrest. All values enshr ined in the Constitution were set aside, fundamental rights were suspended, press freedom extinguished and several political leaders, social workers, students and ordinary citizens were jailed, he pointed out in a post on X. Later in the day, The Emergency Diaries — Years that Forged a Leader, a book that chronicles Modi's journey during that time, when he was a RSS pracharak, was released by Union home minister Amit Shah. Shah said Modi, then 25, used to work underground at that time against Emergency, sometimes as a saint, sometimes as a Sardarji, sometimes as a hippie, sometimes as an incense stick seller or sometimes as a newspaper seller.

India passing through undeclared Emergency, says CPM general secretary M A Baby

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: India is passing through an undeclared Emergency, CPM general secretary M A Baby said in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday. He was speaking after inaugurating the first-ever event conducted by the CPM to commemorate the Emergency . 'This is the ninth year of undeclared Emergency. The Union government is backed by the RSS and the latter is using the government machinery to implement its semi-fascist policies,' Baby said. Criticising the RSS, Baby said the organisation's basic structure is based on fascism. 'RSS is a mysterious organisation. Its leadership is not chosen through a democratic process,' he said. Baby asked people to be vigilant against RSS' attempts to bring India under a fascist regime. CPM state secretary M V Govindan said democracy and secularism are under threat in the country. 'We are facing an even worse situation than the Emergency. The Union government is proceeding to take India to a new level of neo-fascism. But people who have faith in democracy are confident of defeating these attempts,' Govindan said.
