
Karnataka Lokayukta seizes over Rs 22 crore in disproportionate assets from seven govt officers
Karnataka's Lokayukta police said they raided over 35 locations linked to seven government officers in Bengaluru city as well as Bengaluru Rural, Tumakuru, Mangaluru, Vijayapura, and Yadgir districts, and uncovered disproportionate assets of Rs 22.7 crore on Thursday.
The raids were conducted at the officers' homes, offices, and their relatives' homes.
According to the Lokayukta police, H R Nataraj, a legal metrology inspector in Bengaluru's city market-1 subdivision, held assets worth Rs 3.94 crore, including two sites, two houses, and nine acres of agricultural land valued at Rs 3.13 crore, plus movable assets like Rs 21 lakh in ornaments and Rs 1.50 lakh cash.
Lokayukta sleuths also searched locations linked to Anantha Kumar, a second-division assistant at the Hosakote taluk office in Bengaluru Rural and unearthed Rs 1.96 crore in assets, including a house and five acres of land valued at Rs 1.51 crore.
The other five officers and their assets seized during the raids as per the Lokayukta are as follows:
Murali TV, Additional Director of Town Planning at the Bengaluru Development Authority, possessed Rs 3.47 crore in assets, with three sites and three houses worth Rs 3.16 crore, along with Rs 25.54 lakh in ornaments.
Rajashekhara D, Planning Director at Nirmithi Kendra, Tumakuru, held assets worth Rs 5.74 crore, including 12 sites, four houses, and four acres of land worth Rs 3.89 crore, with movable assets like Rs 89.06 lakh in ornaments and vehicles worth Rs 37.92 lakh.
In Mangaluru, Manjunatha M R, Survey Supervisor at the UPOR (Urban Property Ownership Record) Office, had assets worth Rs 2.56 crore, including nine sites and two houses valued at Rs 2.31 crore.
Renuka Satarle, a former district manager at Dr BR Ambedkar Development Corporation Limited in Vijayapura, possessed Rs 3.10 crore in assets, with three sites, two houses, and movable assets like Rs 58.80 lakh in ornaments.
Umakanth Halle, Tahsildar of Shahapura taluk in Yadgir district, held assets worth Rs 1.98 crore, including two sites and two houses.

Air India Crew Member Held For Smuggling Gold Worth Rs 1.41 Cr From US
Last Updated: After investigation, a pouch containing grams of foreign-origin gold was recovered by the DRI officials. The mastermind of the smuggling has also been arrested. Acting on specific intelligence regarding a gold smuggling network involving airline crew, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Mumbai, intercepted a male crew member from Air India flight AI-116, arriving from New York on 13 June. While the initial search yielded nothing, subsequent interrogation revealed that the crew member had concealed a pouch containing foreign-origin gold bars, wrapped in black duct tape, near the baggage services area during the post-flight breathalyser test. Following this disclosure, DRI officers recovered the pouch, which contained 1,373 grams of foreign-origin gold. During further questioning, the crew member admitted to smuggling gold on previous occasions. DRI Mumbai arrested an Air India crew member from flight AI-116 for smuggling 1.373 kg of foreign-origin gold, valued at ₹1.41 crore. The gold was concealed near the baggage area post-flight. The accused confessed to orchestrating multiple smuggling operations. The seized gold, valued at Rs 1.41 crore, has been confiscated under the provisions of the Customs Act and both the crew member and the handler have been remanded in custody. Further investigation is ongoing. In a similar incident in December 2024, an Air India cabin crew member was arrested for assisting a passenger in smuggling 1.7 kg of 24-carat gold at Chennai airport. The crew member reportedly handled the passenger's gold during the flight. FIR Against Supertech, Its Promoter For Defrauding IDBI Bank Of Rs 126.07 Crore
New Delhi: The CBI has registered an FIR against Noida-based construction firm Supertech Limited and its promoter R K Arora among others for allegedly defrauding IDBI Bank of Rs 126.07 crore, officials said Saturday. Arora has been named in the FIR alongside whole-time directors Sangita Arora, Mohit Arora, Parul Arora, Vikas Kansal, Pradeep Kumar, Anil Kumar Sharma, and Anil Kumar Jain, in addition to the Noida-based company, they said. On Saturday, the CBI conducted coordinated search operations at five locations linked to the accused," including official and residential premises in Noida and Ghaziabad," in connection with the case. During the raids, agency officials seized cash amounting to Rs 28.5 lakh, CBI's spokesperson said in a statement. The case was initiated following a complaint from IDBI Bank, which alleged that the accused had conspired to misappropriate sanctioned loan funds through fraudulent means. According to the FIR, the bank alleged that the company and its directors submitted forged documents to secure credit facilities under false pretences. The loan account was subsequently declared a wilful default and categorised as fraudulent, allegedly resulting in wrongful losses totalling Rs 126.07 crore to IDBI Bank Ltd., the CBI said.

Five arrested for duping family to unearth ‘hidden treasure', lose Rs 15.30 lakh
Five members were arrested by the Karimnagar rural police on Friday for defrauding a family of Rs 15.30 lakh on the pretext of performing 'pujas' to ward off 'evil eye' and unearth a 'hidden treasure' in Kothapally mandal. The arrested persons were identified as E. Raju of Chandragiri, Durgaiah of Agraharam, Penugonda Raju, Ajay, and Satish of Cheerlavancha villages in the erstwhile Karimnagar district. The accused allegedly duped Praveen of Sriramulapalli village by falsely promising to get his family rid of problems and ensure the well-being of his ailing parents. They allegedly tricked him into paying Rs 15.30 lakh in different instalments on the pretext of some 'pujas' in the past fortnight. When Praveen finally realised their plan, after they started threatening him for more money, he lodged a complaint with the local police. A police team led by Karimnagar rural inspector of police A Niranjan Reddy, nabbed the five individuals at Chintakunta on Friday afternoon. The police recovered Rs 15.30 lakh, seven tola gold, three cars, and seven mobile phones from the arrested individuals.
