BSO return this summer for two open-air concerts
The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra (BSO) is set to grace Meyrick Park with two open-air concerts this August.
The weekend, supported by BCP Council, includes 'Classical Extravaganza 2.0' and 'Symphonic Smash Hits: the 80s'.
'Classical Extravaganza 2.0', directed by Calleva Assistant Conductor Enyi Okpara, takes place on Friday, August 8.
It showcases popular classical and film music, including pieces by John Williams, Elgar and Tchaikovsky.
The next day, Saturday, August 9, the park will come alive with 'Symphonic Smash Hits: the 80s', sponsored by Lester Aldridge Solicitors.
This high-energy event will feature West End singers, with Pete Harrison conducting hits by Madonna, Elton John and more.
Attendees are encouraged to join the orchestra in dressing up in their favourite 80s-inspired outfits.

The gates at Meyrick Park will open at 6pm, with performances starting at 8pm.
Guests are invited to bring their own picnics to enjoy on site.
The evenings will end with a fireworks and pyrotechnics display.

Renée Zellweger is "keeping her fingers crossed" there will be another Bridget Jones film. The 56-year-old actress looked to have bowed out with her performance in the last instalment in the romcom franchise based as author Helen Fielding's last Bridget book was penned in 2016. With this year's iteration was based on a previeous novel, Mad About the Boy. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Renée said she is open to reprising her most famous role - as long as Helen decides it is not her final bow as the singleton turned perennial romantic. "My understanding was that this was kind of it, but I keep my fingers crossed that she might want to share some more of her own experiences through the world of Bridget," she explained. Speaking about her love of playing Bridget, Renée added: "I just have affinity for her. I love her. I love who she is and what she inspires, her optimism and her joy and her perspective. I love that she lifts other people up when she's feeling down and that she's self-effacing in a way that we all recognise." The star also has immense respect for the author behind the character that has stuck with her for a quarter of a century. "It's just a testament to this beautiful thing that Helen has tapped into in terms of our vulnerabilities and bits of our shared humanity that Bridget seems to embody in a way that makes us feel seen when we spend time with her," she continued.

The international box office tally through Sunday is $436.8M after a $67.7M offshore frame (-47%). Paramount/Skydance's Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, meanwhile, has topped $450M worldwide with $450.4M through today. The offshore hold was also -47%, with another $40.6M contributing to the running $301.2M international box office. It opened No. 1 there with $4M to rep the 3rd highest opening for a studio title in 2025 to date, just 2% below A Minecraft Movie. Elsewhere, it is the highest grossing film of the year in France, Italy, Spain, Brazil and Mexico, among others. Here are the Top 5 to date: Mexico ($56.8M), UK ($42.2M), France ($30.4M), Brazil ($28.2M) and Germany ($23.7M). In Mission: Impossible news, the Tom Cruise-starrer's 66 markets this weekend were led by China where it was No. 1 for the second frame in a row. The total there is now $47.5M with Maoyan predicting a $62M finish. It's easily the biggest Hollywood movie of the year so far there. The current Top 5 is rounded out by the UK ($27.8M), Japan ($23.4M), Korea ($20.5M) and France ($17.7M). In Imax, M:I 8 has grossed $69.1M globally which reps a franchise-best 15.3% of the overall global total for the Filmed For Imax movie. The international cume in the format is $38M. Also in holdover play, Sony's Karate Kid: Legends added $10M in 57 overseas markets for a $38.6M offshore cume and $74M global to date. Spain, France and Japan open in August. There was sporting success for England's cricketers when they visited Bristol on Sunday however. Cricket legends from years gone by gathered at Downend on Friday for a special match to raise funds for a Gloucestershire legend, and some enterprising lads from Keynsham have been preparing for a motorsport challenge. Flowers by Alla, on the Wells Road in Totterdown, is run by Alla Orekhovska, who had to leave her home three years ago after Russian forces invaded. [IKB Academy] Get your motors running: A group of 10 teenage boys from Keynsham are revving up for a national karting final this month. The group, from Wellsway, Broadlands and Sir Bernard Lovell Schools, built the kart themselves and will be going up against other schools from across the country on Saturday.
