But not all hope is lost. India has a few rare gems that don't believe in 'peak season' or 'closed due to weather.' These places are charming, scenic, and travel-friendly
every
month of the year.
Here are 5 Indian destinations that are unapologetically all-season and always ready to welcome you.
Rishikesh, Uttarakhand
Whether it's blazing June or misty December, Rishikesh lures visitors in every season. It's one of those rare destinations where yoga mats, rafting boats, and temple bells ring year-round without a weather break.
Summers are great for river rafting in the Ganga, winters bring a dreamy fog over the ghats and hills, and are perfect for hot chai post-meditation. Monsoon might slow down adventure sports, but gives you lush green hills and photogenic skies.

Pondicherry wears many hats: colonial, coastal, calm. And luckily, the weather wears none. The coastal breeze keeps summers tolerable, the winters pleasant, and the monsoons moody in a way that makes French cafés even cozier.

Coorg, Karnataka
Nestled in the Western Ghats, Coorg is the ultimate anti-season destination. Summers? Cool and misty. Winters? Crisp and perfect for bonfire nights. Monsoon? Okay, it rains buckets—but that just turns the hills into a green paradise, ideal for long drives and Insta-envy. Add to that coffee plantations, spice trails, and waterfalls that don't believe in dry spells, and you've got a getaway that's always game.
Coonoor, Tamil Nadu
Just a short drive from Ooty lies its quieter cousin, Coonoor. Blessed with the same pleasant climate but fewer tourists, Coonoor is the slow-travel dream. The weather stays friendly throughout the year, monsoons are misty but not messy, and there's always a tea estate or colonial bungalow nearby to explore. Whether you're into long walks, train rides, or just a good book with a view, this Nilgiri hideaway is your answer.
Ooty, Tamil Nadu
Perched at 7,000 feet, Ooty is the kind of place where the air feels like it's been gently refrigerated. Summers are pleasant (think 20–25°C), winters are crisp but not cruel, and even monsoon rains tend to arrive gently, not with a vengeance. Well-maintained roads and the Nilgiri Mountain Railway make getting around easy for all age groups. Add to the itinerary lakes, gardens, and cheese factories, and you've got comfort food in destination form.

Traditionally reliant on word-of-mouth, local pandits are now rapidly adapting to an online marketplace. With the onset of Shravan, which began on July 11 and will continue till Aug 9, the demand for online pujas has surged by an impressive 50 percent. Online puja services via video calls and live streaming have gained substantial popularity, particularly among the overseas Indian community wishing to stay connected with their traditions. Initially, we would get such request from Indians staying abroad, but now even out station people are asking us to do puja for them. Ujjain is a city of temples and every temple has its own speciality. We perform puja as per the need and desire of the devotee. I have clients in the US, Australia, Dubai, Canada and many other places." Pandits are performing 'mahamrityunjaya jaap', 'rudrabhishek', 'anusthan', and other special rituals online at various temples in Ujjain, depending on the type of puja and the temple known for that particular ritual. They stated that their schedules have become packed throughout the month and that they conduct virtual puja sessions catering to followers from different time zones during auspicious occasions. Also, their schedules have become packed throughout the month and that they conduct virtual puja sessions catering to followers from different time zones during auspicious occasions. Families living in the United States, Dubai, Canada, Australia, and Europe have found this a boon, as it allows them to maintain their religious observances without travelling thousands of miles. They also appreciate the convenience of participating from the comfort of their homes, especially during important occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, and ancestral ceremonies. Anamika Sharma from Dubai said, "We recently performed 'rudrabhishek' online at a temple in Ujjain. We were very keen to perform a puja in Ujjain. But travelling to India was a big challenge with two little kids. So, we explored this medium and were very satisfied with the results. This was the first time we participated in the online puja and may do it again." Devotees said the online pujas help connect their loved ones to be part of the ceremony and are economical as they reduce the cost of travelling and accommodation. Sushant Singh, a senior software analyst from Delhi said, "My friend shared his online puja experience and I decided to follow the suit. It saved us a lot of money which we would have otherwise spent on air tickets, hotels and food. Also, I did not have to take leave from my office." Another devotee S Ram Kumar, a Phd scholar at IIT Delhi has booked an online puja at Ujjain as he could not take leave for travel. Amid the increase in online puja demand, Ujjain's traditional priests are quickly adapting to the digital wave by learning to operate smartphones, webcams and streaming equipment. Ujjain Pandits Association president Rajesh Trivedi said, "There is a jump of about 50 percent in demand coming for online puja. I perform around 20 online pujas in a month."

What really happens on a cruise ship during a tsunami? The truth may shock you
What really happens on a cruise ship during a tsunami? A huge 8.8-magnitude earthquake off the coast of Russia has sent tsunami warnings across the Pacific, which has scared cruise ship passengers. Ships from Hawaii to Alaska rushed to safety as the waves came in. But what really happens when a cruise ship gets into this kind of trouble? The truth is stranger and scarier than you think. While deep-sea waters can protect ships, the true danger is near ports. Passengers say that things were very chaotic as cruise ships quickly left the docks, sometimes leaving guests behind as panic grew. Besides Hawaii and Japan, advisories have been issued for Alaska, which is currently the busiest cruise destination. Tsunami waves move quickly, but in deep water, they are hard to see. They are often only a few feet high across large areas. That changes a lot when the waves get close to land. They slow down, get taller, and become dangerous, as per a report by the Daily Mail. Officials have cautioned that there may be worse to come as waves from the earthquake have already been seen striking Maui, Hawaii. At a safe depth, which varies but is typically greater than 180 feet, tsunamis are comparatively innocuous to boats as they pass beneath. Warnings about ships at sea have been issued, according to Cruise Hive. "Avoid entering shallow water, harbors, marinas, bays, and inlets if at sea to avoid floating and submerged debris and strong currents," it says. To lessen the impact of waves, it has been recommended that any craft in the ocean relocate to water at least 180 feet deep. Teams on cruise lines monitor the weather and emergency conditions and advise the ship of any necessary route adjustments. It is unknown if the tsunami will force cruise ships to change their itineraries or skip ports of call. However, if ports are damaged by waves, it might be necessary to cancel visits to some areas. What happens if a cruise is docked during a tsunami warning? With peak cruise season in full swing, destinations like Hawaii and Alaska saw ships preparing for quick exits. Social media was flooded with dramatic footage. One TikTok user, @demifreeman, captured passengers sprinting down a Hawaiian pier as their cruise ship began pulling away without them. 'Actually insane,' she wrote. 'We are going to be in the middle of the tsunami in the ocean.' Another clip from @mandythecruiseplanner showed a busload of frustrated tourists who'd missed their boat as it rushed to deeper waters for safety. Cruise ships might also have to avoid the coast for a while until things settle down, depending on the aftershock's strength and timing. Ships may employ specific strategies, like navigating away from the epicentre, according to Cruise Passenger. They will stay in touch with emergency services and authorities to receive situational updates. It coincides with reports from some vacationers that cruise ships are departing empty as they leave ports to go to deeper waters. A reality check for travelers For those cruising in paradise, the past few days have been a sobering reminder: even in luxury, nature calls the shots. From Russia's tremors to Hawaii's swells, this tsunami alert has exposed just how vulnerable sea travel can be. FAQs Are cruise ships safe from tsunamis? Yes, if they're in deep water, usually 180 feet or more away from the shore. Can cruise ships leave passengers behind during an emergency? Yes. Ships may leave without warning if they need to avoid incoming waves.
