LG meets leaders, discusses preparations for Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra
Srinagar, Jun 26 (UNI) Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday held a meeting with political leaders at Raj Bhawan Srinagar and discussed the preparations for Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, which is scheduled to begin from July 3.
The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah; Sat Sharma, Dr. Nirmal Singh and Kavinder Gupta (BJP); Tara Chand and Ghulam Ahmad Mir (Indian National Congress); Showkat Ahmad Mir and Jagdish Singh Azad (National Conference); Mohamad Yousuf Tarigami (CPIM); Sajad Gani Lone (J&K Peoples Conference); Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari (J&K Apni Party); Iltaja Mufti (PDP) and Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen Shah (J&K People's Democratic Front).
The Lieutenant Governor shared the dedicated efforts made by the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board, Administration, J&K Police, Security Forces and all the stakeholders for the safe and successful conduct of the holy Yatra.
'With the blessings of Baba Amaranth, and the significant enhancements to essential facilities and services, this year's pilgrimage promises to be memorable and spiritually enriching for devotees. It will also mark the beginning of a new chapter for Jammu Kashmir', the Lieutenant Governor said.
The Lieutenant Governor welcomed the suggestions and inputs received from the senior political leaders and sought their cooperation to make the yatra more convenient and hassle-free for the devotees of Shri Amarnath Ji.
'The leaders of all political parties are members of the J&K family and I believe pilgrimage to Shri Amarnath Ji is the socio-cultural responsibility of this family. We must walk shoulder to shoulder with a resolve to welcome all devotees and make Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra a huge success,' the Lieutenant Governor said.
Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah and all the senior leaders reiterated their commitment and assured every support to the holy pilgrimage.
Amarnath Yatra is woven into Jammu Kashmir's composite culture and is also crucial for the region's economy. The smooth and successful conduct of this sacred pilgrimage is our shared responsibility, they said.
The senior leaders also urged the people of Jammu & Kashmir to warmly welcome the devotees and play their vital role as key stakeholders in the Yatra.
Condemning the Pahalgam Terror Attack, the Political leaders said the way the people of Kashmir valley, irrespective of their political ideologies came out on streets against terrorism sent a strong message to the adversary that violence has no place in our society.

Vijaya Shankar Nayak, a Valmiki community member from Tumakuru, supported these claims, stating that none of the money was transferred to the applicants' personal accounts. Instead, all the funds were transferred to a Bank of Maharashtra account in Kolar. Nayak added, 'These individuals did not sign for the transfer; the officials forged their signatures. These people sign in Kannada, but the signatures for individuals like Maruti and Shashi were in English." The BJP has demanded immediate action against those responsible and has urged the Chief Minister to take accountability for these alleged fraudulent activities within the corporation. Earlier this month, the Enforcement Directorate had conducted searches against Congress's Bellary MP E Tukaram and three MLAs in Karnataka as part of a money laundering probe into the alleged Valmiki scam. It was learnt that the premises linked to Tukaram and the three MLAs were searched under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The three leaders being investigated by the investigative agency are: NT Srinivas, NB Reddy and JN Ganesh. It is alleged that the money was withdrawn from the Karnataka Valmiki Scheduled Tribe Development Corporation funds and was spent in the Lok Sabha elections. 'The Prada paradox': Maharashtra artisans meet CM Fadnavis over 'Kolhapuri chappals' at fashion show; raise GI violation issue
Prada-Kolhapuri chappals NEW DELHI: When a global luxury house like Prada walked the Milan runway with what looked unmistakably like Kolhapuri chappals, priced at over Rs 2 lakh, it ought not to have sat well with the artisans who had handcrafted the original for generations. Artisans from Maharashtra have raised alarm over what they see as a clear violation of their geographical indication (GI) rights, after Prada featured chappal-style footwear in its Spring/Summer 2026 menswear collection without any nod to Kolhapur or its traditional craftsmen. The GI rights protect products that have a specific origin and possess qualities or a reputation linked to that location. In India, GI tags are granted under the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha MP Dhananjay Mahadik, who hails from Kolhapur, met chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday, leading a delegation of artisans. The group submitted a letter urging the state to act against what they called a cultural and commercial appropriation. Speaking to news agency PTI, Mahadik said the sandals showcased by Prada are unmistakably Kolhapuri in design, and are being sold at a staggering Rs 1.7 lakh to Rs 2.10 lakh per pair. "We want Prada to give the Kolhapuri identity to their product, and local artisans should get the revenue. If Prada gives us orders, we can manufacture for them. The Kolhapuri brand will reach globally," the BJP leader said. He added that such a collaboration would give artisans both recognition and sustainable income. Mahadik said a public interest litigation (PIL) would be filed in the high court, and he's seeking a meeting with Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal to escalate the matter at the national level. In his letter to the chief minister, Mahadik noted that the Kolhapuri chappal received a GI tag from the Government of India in 2019 and that Prada's Milan presentation on June 23 lacked any reference to the source community. "This kind of commercial appropriation not only violates GI regulations but also threatens the livelihood and dignity of thousands of families involved in this traditional trade," he wrote. Kolhapuri chappals, open-toe leather sandals with braided designs, date back to the 12th century and are traditionally handcrafted in Kolhapur and nearby districts like Sangli, Satara, and Solapur. Mahadik has requested the state to raise the issue with the Centre for immediate intervention. He also called for the formation of a protective framework for GI-tagged products at the state level and urged that artisans be given legal and financial assistance in cases of international misuse. He claimed that following the backlash, Prada has taken down photos of the sandals from its official website.
