Three Scottish Aldi stores named in list of 23 locations to receive 'upgrades'
Aldi has revealed the latest list of stores that are part of its commitment to revamping and refreshing hundreds of stores across the entire UK.
The budget supermarket's most recent list covers 23 locations that are set to get major upgrades before the end of the year, and it includes three branches based across Scotland.
This will be the stores based on South Road in Cupar, Dunbar Road in North Berwick and Almondvale Road in Livingston.
Alongside the other locations included, these three Scots stores are set to undergo improvements as part of the budget supermarket's plan to improve the shopping experience for customers nationwide.
Examples of upgraded features set for these stores will include benefits such as refreshed fixtures, enhanced layouts and improved sustainability features.
The rollout builds on the success of the original upgrade programme that has already delivered modernised layouts, with extra improvements including more space for fresh and chilled products, and brighter, wider aisles to more than 500 stores across the UK.
As part of the upgrades, two stores in Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria and Ebbw Vale in Wales will be receiving extensions between now and December.
Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK, said: 'Our investment into our store estate is part of our ongoing commitment to provide the very best shopping experience for our customers.
"By extending and refreshing our existing sites, we're providing more sustainable and convenient stores, ensuring they continue to meet the needs of the communities they serve for years to come."
It comes as Aldi is also committed to its ambitious growth plans that will increase its accessibility to customers nationwide, with 40 new store openings planned for 2025 alone.

The UK's fourth largest supermarket also revealed a list of 'priority' locations it would like to set up shop, with the list including Scotland's seaside town based in Largs, North Ayrshire.
Meanwhile, in other Aldi-related news, the discounter was recently ousted as the cheapest supermarket in the monthly Which? comparison, with rival Lidl taking the top spot for the first time in 20 months.
The results for July 2025 found that, for a basket of 76 groceries, the price came to £128 for Lidl Plus members and £128.40 for regular shoppers. Comparatively, Aldi's total came to £129.25 - marking the first month of 2025 it has not been the cheapest.

Aldi opens one of its biggest stores in Wales
One of the biggest Aldi stores in Wales has opened its doors. Aldi says it is opening an average of one new supermarket a week for the rest of 2025 as it ramps up its expansion programme. The openings form part of a £650 investment into its store estate this year. This will also see 35 of its supermarkets undergo refurbishments before the end of the year. The expansion push saw the brand open up a new supermarket on Deeside this week, with Team GB diving hero Lois Toulson cutting the ribbon. The Airfields store is 21,000 sq ft and will be run by Store Manager Spencer Kearney, along with a team of 27 staff. Jonathan Neale, Aldi UK managing director of national real estate, said: 'At Aldi, our goal is to make sure people across the UK have access to affordable, high-quality food, and opening new stores is key to making that happen. We're now opening an average of one new store a week for the rest of 2025, showing just how ambitious our plans are to build a store network that will help us reach millions of new customers." Join the North Wales Live Whatsapp community now Store Manager Spencer Kearney said: 'It was lovely to welcome our new customers into store, and I look forward to meeting more of the community in the coming weeks. I'm also thrilled that we've been able to support a local primary school through our partnership with Team GB.' Team GB star Lois Toulson said: 'I've had a fantastic time opening the new Aldi this morning. It was an honour to officially open the store and welcome customers inside for the first time." The new Aldi store offers large chillers and freezers dedicated to fresh, Welsh meat products, a 'Food to Go' section at the front of the store, and a section full of health and beauty products. Additionally, the new Aldi store is calling on local charities and food banks in Deeside to register with Neighbourly, a community engagement platform that links businesses to charitable organisations in the local community. Local charities that register will be able to collect surplus food and perishable products, such as fruit, vegetables and baked goods, seven days a week. Any charities in the area that would like to partner up with the new Aldi store should email aldi@ The new store on Welsh Road open is open 8am to 10pm from Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.

'It's not Government money they're spending it's ours'
Record View reminds readers that all governments need to be careful how they spend the money they raise. Our political leaders often talk about spending 'government' money. But in reality that's not true. The cash they spend is actually your money – most of it gathered from taxes on our wages, VAT on consumer goods and company profits. That's why all governments need to be careful how they spend the money they raise. In today's Daily Record both Labour and the SNP are throwing barbs at each other about 'wasted money '. But both the UK and Scottish government s need to do better on that front. The Scottish Government has wasted hundreds of millions of pounds on various overspent or failed projects. The ferry fiasco, the scrapped bottle deposit scheme and the unwinnable Supreme Court legal fight on trans issues are just three areas where millions of pounds have been poured down a very big black hole. It is also true that the UK Government could be doing more to guard the public finances. They should be making sure big businesses – especially tech and energy giants – pay a fairer share of their profits to the public purse. Too much money has been blown on the HS2 high-speed rail project, with not one inch of track yet laid and the benefits to the whole UK not yet clear. We all know public services need paying for – and tax is vital for services like schools, hospitals and roads. But our governments in Edinburgh and London need to keep a closer eye on how they spend it. Together at last The world seems like a harsh place to be in 2025. Wars in Ukraine and Gaza are threatening global security. At home there seems to be a constant deluge of online hate and political discord. But it's always worth remembering that the vast majority of people out there are just trying to do their best. And some people go above and beyond to help those around them. One such person is Juleena Masters, an American lady who decided to donate bone marrow to save the life of young Scot Ava Todd. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! We reported in 2016 that Ava – then three – would not survive without a transplant due an inherited disorder. Our story made it to the US, where Juleena was found to be a match and agreed to be a donor for Ava. Now Ava is a happy and healthy girl of 12 – and has finally met up with Juleena for the first time to say thank you. It's the happiest of endings to a long and difficult journey for Ava. We hope it brightens up your day reading her story.

Glasgow Cineworld closing date set as staff to be made redundant
The closing date of the world's tallest cinema on Glasgow's Renfrew Street has been set. The world's tallest cinema based in Glasgow will be shutting its doors next month. Employees at the Renfrew Street Cineworld were sent letters in July saying the cinema was 'likely to close' and the situation is out of Cineworld's control. In a recent decision from the landlord, the Renfrew Street cinema will officially close on September 28, reports Glasgow Live. In a letter sent to employees this week, staff were told that their roles were "at risk". Part of it reads: "Cineworld has received correspondence from the landlord of our Glasgow Renfrew Street Cinema advising that they are serving us notice to quit the building. "This therefore means that your roles will shortly be placed at risk of redundancy, as a result of this notice." During the letter, it states that employees will now enter a period of "consultation". It ends with: "I appreciate that today's announcement may be upsetting and your line manager or I will be available to support you throughout this process". A spokesperson for Cineworld confirmed the closure, however, said that their Silverburn cinema will undergo its most "ambitious transformation yet". A spokesperson said: "Following the landlord's recent decision, Cineworld Glasgow Renfrew Street will close on September 28, 2025. As we say goodbye to Renfrew Street, Cineworld Silverburn is undergoing its most ambitious transformation yet – with major investment bringing a 4DX screen and a full upgrade of every 2D auditorium to luxury recliner seating. "We can't wait for you to experience the new Cineworld Silverburn, for the most superior entertainment experience in Glasgow." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
