
Two men charged over 'machete murder bid' on Mark Richardson associate at Edinburgh home
David McMillan was attacked outside his home in Edinburgh by thugs wielding machetes, with another arrest made over the firebombing of a salon in the city.
Two men have been arrested and charged in connection with the attempted murder of one of Mark Richardson's top associates.
Thugs allegedly attacked David McMillan, 54, with machetes outside his house on Pitcairn Grove in Edinburgh on Thursday, May 22.
The incident was the third time McMillan was targeted after his front door was torched on April 17, and an SUV parked in his driveway was set on fire on May 8.
The two men, aged 26 and 20, were charged on Monday and appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday, Tuesday, June 17.
The two latest arrests in connection with Operation Portaledge, the ongoing investigation into the gang war, brings the total to 47.Detective Chief Superintendent Dave Ferry said: 'Further to these arrests, we have also recovered a vehicle and a firearm, both of which are believed to have been used in recent incidents. 'This activity highlights our continued commitment to tackling organised crime and we are following a number of positive lines of enquiry. 'We still require further support from local communities as our investigation progresses. If you know anything that could assist our ongoing investigation, please do the right thing and speak to us. "Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland via 101 quoting incident number 0562 of Friday, 21 March, 2025. He was subsequently charged in connection with an alleged deliberate fire at premises on Albert Street, Edinburgh, which occurred on Thursday, March 6. He was due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday, June 16. Arran Reid, 26, and Joshua Stewart, 20, made their first appearance at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Wednesday, June 18. They both faced a number of charges in relation to the alleged machete attack on Thursday, May 22, after police arrested them earlier this week as they continue to crack down on a number of violent incidents in the capital. Reid was charged with assault to severe injury, permanent disfigurement, attempted murder, reset, possession of blade, attempt to defeat ends of justice, possession of firearm and ammunition. Stewart was charged with assault to severe injury, permanent disfigurement, attempted murder, reset and attempt to defeat the ends of justice, reports the Daily Record. Both made no plea and were committed for further examination and remanded in custody. Their next appearance will be within eight days. A man also appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday charged with a firebombing at Belle Cheveux salon in the city's Albert Street on March 6 this year. Owen Logan, 26, was detained by Police Scotland officers on Sunday afternoon, after they swooped on Muirhouse Drive in the capital at around 6pm.
