Mlaba, who is nicknamed Lefty, was consistent across all formats, starring with the ball in Proteas' solitary Test match, claiming a maiden 10-wicket haul, while she also bagged 15 ODI wickets at an average of 22, and a further 16 T20I wickets at 18.62. Mlaba broke the record for the most wickets by a South African at the ICC Women's T20 World Cup. Fellow left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj was once again overcome with emotion when he was named Cricket SA's Men's Player of the Year for the second time in three seasons. Maharaj pipped fellow nominees Temba Bavuma, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton and Marco Jansen after snaring 40 Test wickets at 20.57. The 35-year-old played just three ODI's during the judging period, but also enjoyed a solid T20 season with 14 wickets at 22.21. Bavuma, who was strong contender for the premier prize in South African cricket, was awarded the Test Player of the Year and SA Fans Player of the Year. Rabada, meanwhile, was honoured by his teammates as the Players Player of the Year, while the white-ball awards were divided between Heinrich Klaasen (ODI Cricketer of the Year), Anrich Nortje (T20 Cricketer of the Year) and Ottniel Baartman (International Newcomer of the Year). Seamer Ayanda Hlubi won the corresponding Women's International Newcomer of the Year award, while impressive allrounder Annerie Dercksen walked away with the ODI Player of the Year prize. Eliza Spencer - Princess Diana's niece - engaged to SA businessman
Lady Eliza Spencer – the niece of the late Princess Diana – has announced her engagement to South African businessman, Channing Millerd. The blonde model is the twin sister of Amelia and the younger sibling of Kitty. Their father is Charles Spencer, the older brother of the late royal. The Spencer siblings, including brother Louis, were raised in Cape Town, South Africa, out of the spotlight. On Thursday, 31 July, Lady Eliza Spencer posted pictures on Instagram of her recent engagement to Channing Millerd. The romantic proposal took place in Santorini, Greece, during a picturesque sunset. Lady Eliza Spencer's future husband is a Cape Town businessman, whose current role is the COO of Marxhoff, the alcohol beverage company co-founded by Springboks Malcolm Marx and Steven Kitshoff. Eliza and Channing are pals with the Springbok couples, as well as many others who follow them on Instagram. He also manages Lala V, a luxury Provence rosé wine he co-founded with his now fiancée. The couple has vacationed in beautiful destinations around the world, including Venice in Italy, the Maldives, Mallorca in Spain, and Austria. They're even considering a seaside wedding. ‘It was an awesome moment': Tshegofatso Mabasa's mother on being included in the Pirates doccie
Faith is woven into daily life in the Mabasa household, as seen from the very first episode of Pirates' Giants. The mother of Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa, Itumeleng, feels seen and recognised after being included in Pirates' five-part documentary, Giants. 'But to be honest, it was an awesome moment, you know, to realise that you as a parent are also considered,' said Itumeleng at the screening of the first episode of Giants. The Giants series takes viewers into the Orlando Pirates' changing room and the players' lives outside the field. The first episode of the five-part series aired last Sunday, and it zooms in on the lives of Mabasa and midfielder Thalente Mbatha, featuring interviews with their families. 'You know, when your child is there, people wonder who brought this child to this earth, how did this person bring him up. It was an interesting thing and I just want to ask that may it continue with other parents as well,' said Itumeleng. ALSO READ: Primo Baloyi on Pirates' new doccie: 'It makes the sport that much better when you know what's behind the scenes' 'I thought it was a joke' When Mabasa's mother was first approached about the filming of the doccie, she thought it was a joke. 'For me, it was like a joke. I remember I was a bit rude to the person who came to me.' She asked, 'Why do you want to talk to me? What is it that I've done?' 'Then Tshego later phoned to say, 'Mama, this is what is going to happen?' Then the day came,' shared Itumeleng. The first day of shooting took Itumeleng by surprise as she was welcomed into her home by the film crew. 'I remember I had a meeting at school for my grandchild, when I came back, everything was mixed up [but] luckily, my sister was there. I wanted to shout because I want my things to be the way I left them.' ALSO READ: Gregory Maqoma on portraying one of his ancestors on 'Shaka iLembe' Giants is rooted in faith, family and football. Throughout the first episode, it is clear how much faith plays a role in the Mabasa household. 'Every time when they go to play, then I will quote a verse, or I will tell him about God,' says the sticker's mother's mother in the film. In one part of the doccie, Mabasa's aunt shares a story about how the forward once slept over a soccer ball as a young boy. 'Tshego loved soccer right from the crèche. Wherever you see him, he would be holding a ball,' says Tumi. 'It's a story that my mother's very fond of. When I was young, she always said that as a child I never wanted any other toy apart from a ball,' Mabasa says.
