ST Full-time Report: Expect fast times at World Aquatics C'ships in S'pore

There is a realistic prospect of more record-breaking feats at the July 11-Aug 3 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore, as the swimming pool at the purpose-built facility is deeper than the temporary pool for the Paris Olympics, which means less water turbulence.
Meanwhile, Welsh footballer Kai Whitmore, whose grandfather was born in Singapore, has expressed interest to play for the Republic. The 24-year-old midfielder, who plies his trade with English League Two side Newport County, was in town recently to find out more about the process.
In other news, the Kallang Basin Swimming Complex and St Wilfred Sport Centre will close in the second half of 2025, with both sites possibly used for public housing.

There was another option open to the coaching team in 25-year-old Tane Edmed, who has one international cap, but the world champion Springboks on the Highveld are not the opposition to test out young talent on. "Tane's only just joined us," Schmidt said. "We've got a fair bit of confidence in Tane as well, he was on tour with us last year and made his Test debut, but he had a very disrupted Super Rugby season.
