Murder mystery series leaves viewers 'devastated and traumatised' - as they sob 'I've never cried so much at a TV show' after 'gut-wrenching' ending
Streaming fans have been binge watching the new show, despite it having a modest 60% Rotten Tomatoes score with critics.
Called We Were Liars, the show is set in the fictional idyllic Beechwood Island and centres around 17-year-old Cadence Sinclair.
A year previously the teenager was involved in a mysterious accident that left her with amnesia.
However, after being left for dead, nobody will speak about the accident as Cadence is left without answers.
We Were Liars is based on a series of novels by American writer E. Lockhart, with the first book released in 2014.
In a disturbing trailer for the Prime Video series, which landed on the platform last month, Cadence sets the tone with a gripping voiceover.
Played by actress Emily Alyn Lind, she says: 'Once upon a time, there was a mythical land where it was always summer. We were happy, we wanted for nothing.'
It continues: 'Something terrible happened last summer and no one will tell me what.
'When you're left for dead, you want answers.'
While MailOnline has chosen not to spoil the shock ending, Cadence is left bewildered when she eventually learns the truth.
The eight-episode drama left viewers 'traumatised' as they sobbed at their screens before flooding social media with comments.
One upset fan said: 'I started #WeWereLiars think it was like a Nancy Drew mystery sort of show. But no.
'Do not watch this show. It is not worth the psychological trauma. I am broken. I've never cried so much to a TV show.'

Another chimed in: 'No one told me #wewereliars was the most devastating f***ing plot I've ever seen and heard in my life.'
'We Were Liars is the saddest thing I've ever laid my eyes on I literally can't recover,' said a third viewer.
While a fourth penned: 'WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT???? I was not expecting a fun little summer show about teenagers to be so devastating???'
We Were Liars also stars Shubham Maheshwari, Candice King, David Morse, Rahul Kohli and Wendy Crewson.
Meanwhile, a critically acclaimed drama starring two Hollywood legends has finally landed on Netflix this month following rave reviews.
The hit show made its debut in 2022 and has bagged itself an impressive 94% Rotten Tomatoes score thanks to its stellar cast and script.
1923 stars Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford lead the series, which is a prequel to smash-hit drama Yellowstone.
Helen, 79, plays Cara Dutton, the matriarch of the Dutton family, with Harrison, 82, playing her husband and Patriarch of the clan.
While it originally streamed on Paramount+, 1923 has now landed on Netflix, with the first series available to binge-watch.

Anti-Trump MeidasTouch dethrones mighty Joe Rogan as top podcast in US on YouTube
Joe Rogan has been dethroned as America's number one podcaster on YouTube by a staunchly anti-MAGA, 'pro-democracy' show. After months of sharply criticizing President Donald Trump 's actions, decisions and rhetoric, the left-leaning MeidasTouch Podcast overtook the Joe Rogan Experience for the first time last week, according to YouTube's weekly ranking of top podcast shows. While Rogan's 20.1 million YouTube followers dwarf MeidasTouch's 5.2 million, the podcasting giant's show finished in second place. Progressive YouTuber Brian Tyler Cohen and conservative-leaning Sean Ryan's shows also made the top ten. The MeidasTouch Podcast saw its rankings climb in July as Trump attempted to appease Congress, the media, and voters over his administration's handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case, with episodes zeroing in on the president's past ties to and comments about the disgraced financier. According to a May New York Times report, with the rise of video podcasting, YouTube is now the most popular platform for listeners with a one-third market share. 'We're thrilled to see our audience continue to grow,' MeidasTouch Network co-founder Ben Meislas said in a statement Wednesday. 'It's not just about the numbers. It's about building a movement powered by truth, accountability, and the people.' On Spotify, however, Rogan remains king, taking the number one spot, while MeidasTouch secured the 73rd spot on the audio streaming company's U.S. podcast charts. A similar trend appeared on Apple Podcasts' U.S. charts, where the Joe Rogan Experience ranks second, bested only by ABC News' Cold Blooded: Mystery in Alaska, and the MeidasTouch Podcast comes in 17th. According to data analyzed by Newsweek using podcast analytics platform Podscribe, the MeidasTouch Podcast was the most downloaded podcast overall between June 7 and July 7. The data showed MeidasTouch amassed 124 million views in that period, with Rogan scooping the second spot with 39.2 million views. The three brothers who produce the show, Ben, Brett, and Jordy Meiselas, say they have seen ratings soar since Trump returned to the White House in January. The siblings formed the self-styled 'pro-democracy' MeidasTouch Network in March 2020 as a super PAC with the sole purpose of preventing Trump from being reelected in that year's presidential contest. While the PAC changed its name to Democracy Defense Action, the MeidasTouch Network name continues to be used as a news organization. By February this year, the MeidasTouch Podcast was ranked the most downloaded podcast, according to Podscribe data. 'We're proving that pro-democracy voices are not just necessary but in demand,' Brett Meislas told Newsweek at the time. 'The American people are rejecting the idea that MAGA is mainstream.' These latest numbers mark a shift from the dominance of Rogan and other conservative-leaning hosts like Adin Ross, Lex Fridman, and Ben Shapiro, many of whom hosted Trump as he courted the so-called ' bro vote ' ahead of the 2024 election. Many of those figures appear to be breaking away from Trump, including Rogan, who said Trump's lack of transparency over the Epstein case is 'a line in the sand.'

Flaco Jiménez, Grammy award-winning tejano music legend, dies at 86
Flaco Jiménez, master of the accordion and pioneer of tejano music, has died at the age of 86. 'It is with great sadness that we share tonight the loss of our father, Flaco Jimenez,' reads a post from his family on Facebook. 'He was surrounded by his loved ones and will be missed immensely. Thank you to all of his fans and friends – those who cherished his music. And a big thank you for all of the memories. His legacy will live on through his music and all of his fans.' The cause of death is unknown but a January post from his family stated that he was 'in the hospital facing a medical hurdle'. According to his son Arturo, his last words were 'Ya estoy cansado', which translates to 'I'm tired.' Jiménez won six Grammy awards in his career, including for country instrumental performance and tejano music performance, and a lifetime achievement award in 2015. 'This one, the lifetime achievement, is top of the line,' he said at the time. 'You can't go higher than that one.' His sound was instrumental in defining tejano and conjunto music. The Guardian's Piper LeMoine wrote that 'the soundtrack of the American south-west would be incomplete' without these two genres. 'The way I learned to play the accordion was on the wild and happy side, much like Cajun and zydeco music,' he once said in an interview. 'One of my early idols was Clifton Chenier. The way he played, it was like the accordion was yelling at you: hey, take this. I like to make my accordion yell and scream and make it happy.' After performing in San Antonio in the 1960s, Jiménez went to New York City and worked with artists including Bob Dylan, Carlos Santana, Willie Nelson and the Rolling Stones. His first solo album was released in 1972 and he would go on to record more than 25 in his career. A tribute was paid by Cesar Rosas, a member of Los Lobos who worked with Jiménez on the song Don't Worry Baby. 'Not only was Flaco my musical mentor, but he was also a dear friend to all of us Los Lobos,' Rosas said to the San Antonio Express-News. 'He was such a musical influence on me that [he] made me run out and buy a bajo sexto and start using it in my band. He will forever be in my heart. What a tremendous loss.'
