Sea Bears go 2-0 in latest homestand
The Winnipeg Sea Bears continued their winning ways Sunday afternoon, downing the Saskatchewan Rattlers 91-84 at Canada Life Centre.
The Sea Bears played catch up through the first quarter, but took over in the second and never lost the lead, going into the fourth quarter with a commanding 72-59 score.
It was almost deja vu for Winnipeg as the Rattlers chipped away at the score in the last eight minutes of the game before the Sea Bears took control in Target Score Time, ultimately coming out on top at home.

Winnipeg Sea Bears guard Jalen Harris led the team in points on Sunday, racking up 32 in the matinee match against the visiting Saskatchewan Rattlers. The Sea Bears would win the game 91-84 at Canada Life Centre.
Winnipeg guard Terry Roberts and forward Simi Shittu boasted double-doubles. Roberts had 15 points and 10 assists, while Shittu racked up 18 points and 11 rebounds, despite struggling at the free-throw line.

Improving to 3-5 on the season during their two-game homestead, Winnipeg heads back on the road for a two-game trip. The Sea Bears make their first stop Friday, hosted by the 8-1 Vancouver Bandits before wrapping up the road trip in Edmonton against the 4-6 Stingers.

Would Patrick Kane or Brock Boeser be a worthwhile investment to consider? And that leaves Vlad Gavrikov and Aaron Ekblad as impact-worthy additions to the top four on the blue line who would be worth the risk of a contract offer of any term beyond five years. The Jets GM openly challenged Winnipeg's prospects to be ready to grab the brass ring at camp and then the preseason. As it turned out, none really did. For Brad Lambert, Nikita Chibrikov, Parker Ford and Elias Salomonsson, it could very well be a second straight chance to make it impossible for the coaching staff and management to NOT include them on the opening day roster. Perhaps Brayden Yager, Colby Barlow or Jacob Julien take an unanticipated step forward straight out of the junior ranks. Until the grey area becomes more black and white, it would be best to not rule out any potential scenario that exists, heading into this third week of June.

Valour drubbed in Ottawa
After climbing out of the Canadian Premier League basement in their last game — a 3-1 win over Vancouver FC — the Winnipeg Valour dropped their Sunday contest 3-0 on the road to league-leading Atlético Ottawa. The Valour started the game off strong, with Bruno Figueiredo booting the club's first shot in the opening minutes of the game. The club continued to push throughout the first half. But everything turned in stoppage time before halftime, starting with a foul called on Valour midfielder Raphael Ohin with Ballou Jean-Yves Tabla scoring on the ensuing penalty shot for the home side. The Valour would suffer a second goal against just five minutes into the second half before Ottawa would add their third goal of the match in the 73rd minute. It was a tough loss for the Winnipeg club as they outshot Ottawa 13-10 and had three corners compared to Atlético's two, but couldn't capitalize on any advantage. Winnipeg remains tied for sixth overall in points with Pacific FC in the standings — The Tridents holding the tie-breaker. The club returns home for a Sunday matinee, June 22, hosting Forge FC at Princess Auto Stadium.

Thousands run in the 47th annual Manitoba Marathon
About 12,000 runners came out for the 47th annual Manitoba Marathon on June 15, 2025. (Daniel Timmerman/CTV News Winnipeg) Thousands of runners gathered for the Manitoba Marathon Sunday morning, raising funds for those living with intellectual disabilities. The 47th annual event began at 7 a.m. at the University of Manitoba Fort Garry campus, with participants able to partake in several events — including the 42.2-kilometre full marathon. Rachel Munday, executive director with the Manitoba Marathon, said the event has raised over $7 million since its inception to support those living with intellectual disabilities. 'We provide assistance for them to move out, move out of institutional care and live independently in the community,' said Munday. She said that about 12,000 runners came out for the course today which ended at the Princess Auto Stadium. Caleb de Jong from Winnipeg finished the full marathon with the overall best score at two hours, 26 minutes and 47 seconds.
