Angel Reese Tips WNBA Strike Plans Ahead of CBA Talks

Yahoo10-03-2025

Chicago Sky star Angel Reese, the runner-up in 2024 Rookie of the Year voting, said she is hearing from fellow players that a player strike is on the table after this coming season.
The WNBPA has already opted out of its current collective bargaining agreement, meaning the deal will expire this fall rather than in 2027. With several sticking points between players and the league office, a prolonged labor dispute is looming. Reese said the players are ready to take action.

'I need to be in the [players' union] meetings because I'm hearing that if [the league] don't give us what we want, we're sitting out,' Reese told recent Dallas Wings addition Dijonai Carrington on her Unapologetically Angel podcast released Friday night.
'That's a possibility, for real,' Carrington responded.
Carrington was the WNBPA union rep for the Connecticut Sun last season before being traded to Dallas in February. Diamond DeShields served as the Sky's rep in 2024, while Reese doesn't have a formal role in the organization. Her teammate Elizabeth Williams and Brianna Turner, now with Indiana Fever, are the WNBPA's secretary and treasurer, respectively.
The WNBA and the WNBPA didn't immediately respond to requests for comment sent Friday night.
Among the 'transformational change' requests players may make in CBA talks are a larger share of league revenue and the elimination of a hard salary cap, WNBPA executive director Terri Carmichael Jackson said in October.
Reese was part of a rookie class that helped change the dynamics of the WNBA last year as the league turned a corner as a business. A $2.2 billion media deal with Disney, NBC and Amazon will inject more money into the W awhile expansion teams in San Francisco, Portland and Toronto have been confirmed.
During her conversation with Carrington, Reese noted how the 2025 WNBA Draft class will probably make significantly less money than the one that follows due to the next CBA changing the salary structure. It is even possible for rookies under the next CBA to out-earn veterans.
The potential for much higher salaries after 2025 has led several stars, including Brittney Griner and Satou Sabally, to sign one-year contracts so they can hit the market again next offseason.

Caitlin Clark Reacts to Big Announcement on Wednesday

Caitlin Clark Reacts to Big Announcement on Wednesday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Caitlin Clark continues to shine on and off the court, despite dealing with a setback in her second season with the Indiana Fever. Advertisement Clark and the Fever are currently 4-5 on the season, preparing for a matchup against the New York Liberty. While the Fever prepare for a matchup against the Liberty, all eyes will be on the next injury report with Clark. She's been out for five games, dealing with a quadriceps injury. During her time away from the Fever's active roster, a big announcement was posted in Clark's name. Wilson Basketball, a partner of Caitlin Clark, has dropped four signature basketballs, commemorating the Indiana Fever guard's career throughout her first two seasons in the WNBA. "Step into the lab and go behind the design with @CaitlinClark22 and Wilson Basketball's Product Team, for a closer look at her Signature Series," posted the official social media account of Wilson Basketball. "Over the next few days, we'll give you an in-depth look at each basketball in the collection." Advertisement Upon the release of the announcement, Caitlin Clark shared her reaction. "This is my favorite, I'm just seeing it at first glance," Clark said. "It's amazing. It's hard to pick a favorite ball but this is going to be up there with them. It's all about the details… This is a high school quality basketball. This is what the real hoopers use." Caitlin Clark and Wilson Basketball announced the launch of the following signature basketballs: Embrace, Aspire, Oasis and Envision. This is now the second release of signature basketballs with Caitlin Clark. Wilson Basketball released the first wave in July 2024. WNBA Gets Bad News as Caitlin Clark's Injury Absence Drags On

WNBA Gets Bad News as Caitlin Clark's Injury Absence Drags On originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Women's basketball has undeniably skyrocketed in popularity over the past several years, and there are multiple stars of the game -- both in college and in the WNBA -- who have contributed to that meteoric rise. Advertisement But Indiana Fever point guard Caitlin Clark continues to tower above them all in that regard. WNBA ratings have proven as much since Clark went down against the New York Liberty with a quad injury on May 24. Initial projections had Clark missing at least two weeks. Those have proven correct, as Clark has sat out for the last 18 days and counting. The result of her absence on the league's ratings across the board has been drastic, according to a report from USA Today on Wednesday, June 11. Indiana Fever point guard Caitlin Ruszkowski-Imagn Images "Nationally televised WNBA viewership is down 55% since [Clark's] injury, according to Nielsen," Jeff Zillgitt wrote. "Fever national TV games are down 53% since Clark's injury -- 1,810,000 average viewers before her injury and 847,000 viewers since her injury." Advertisement The Fever have suffered record-wise as well, going 2-3 without Clark in the lineup. Indiana is currently 4-5 on the season. The team next plays on Saturday against the Liberty in Indianapolis. Clark's status for that contest remains undetermined after team doctors reevaluated her injured quad last weekend. Clark has posted 19 points, 9.3 assists, 6.0 rebounds and 1.3 steals in four appearances thus far in 2025. She won the WNBA Rookie of the Year award in 2024 after the Fever made her the No. 1 overall pick in the draft. Clark also earned one of five spots as a First-Team All-WNBA performer last season. Paige Bueckers Makes WNBA History in Caitlin Clark's Shadow

Paige Bueckers Makes WNBA History in Caitlin Clark's Shadow originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Dallas Wings rookie Paige Bueckers has missed the last four games due to a concussion she suffered in late May, followed by an unexpected illness. Advertisement However, Bueckers made her return for the Wings on Wednesday night, facing Alyssa Thomas and the Phoenix Mercury. And despite possibly shaking off a bit of rush, the former UConn star made some history. Coming into the game, Bueckers had recorded 88 points, 28 rebounds and 40 assists through her first six WNBA games played. With 3:12 remaining in the first quarter, Bueckers hit a three-foot layup off a DiJonai Carrington assist, marking her 12th point of the night and 100th of her young WNBA career. Dallas Wings guard Paige BueckersPatrick Gorski-Imagn Images In doing so, Bueckers now becomes the fourth fastest rookie in WNBA history to reach 100 or more points, 25 or more rebounds and 25 or more assists, doing so in seven games, per Polymarket Hoops. Advertisement Only three players have reached this milestone faster than Bueckers: Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark, Houston Comets legend Cynthia Cooper-Dyke and former Los Angeles Sparks star Candace Parker, each accomplishing it in just six games. Clark not only tied this record during her rookie season, but she also broke several others, including the marks for most assists in a single game and in a single season. While Bueckers may not be able to reach the heights Clark was able to, she is certainly off to a solid start to her WNBA rookie season. Prior to Wednesday's game, she was averaging 14.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 6.7 assists. But, like Clark, she started her career with a 1-5 record. Advertisement Bueckers and Clark will meet for the first time in the WNBA on June 27, when the Wings host the Fever.
