Palace congratulates INC on 111th anniversary
'Sa loob ng higit isang siglo, ipinahayag at pinatunayan ng pamunuan at mga kasapi ng Iglesia ni Cristo ang kanilang layunin na magsilbing huwarang mga mamamayan at mabubuting alagad ng Diyos sa pamamagitan ng paglilingkod, pagkakakawanggawa, at pakikiisa sa kapwa. Ang kanilang magagandang gawain ay lubos na nagdulot ng malawakang pagbabago at namunga ng pagkakaintindihan, pagdadamayan at pagkakaisa,' Marcos said in a message shared on his official social media accounts.
(For over a century, the leadership and members of the Iglesia ni Cristo have proclaimed and affirmed their purpose to serve as exemplary citizens and good disciples of God through service, charity, and solidarity with others. Their good works have brought about widespread change and have resulted in understanding, mutual understanding, and unity.)
The President emphasized what he considers the important role of the INC as a partner of the government in promoting his vision for the country.
'Nawa'y lahat ng ating pagsisikap ay magsilbing katuparan ng isang Bagong Pilipinas na tunay na makatao, makabansa, at may takot sa Diyos,' he added.
(May all our efforts serve to realize a New Philippines that is truly humane, patriotic, and God-fearing.)
Marcos Jr. earlier declared July 27, 2025 as a special non-working day in the Philippines for the founding anniversary of the INC. — RF, GMA Integrated News

Amendments to 4Ps law will let beneficiaries stay more than 7 years — DSWD
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said that amendments to the 4Ps program would allow beneficiaries to stay in the program as long as they needed to. During the Post-SONA discussion on Tuesday, DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian shared that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s call to amend the 4Ps law would allow those in the program to stay longer than seven years. Gatchalian noted this as a welcome development, as two million Filipinos were about to exit the program in 2026 for reaching the maximum number of years in the program. 'Itong programa na ito namumuhunan tayo sa taong bayan, namumuhunan tayo sa Pilipino. This is an investment in human capital. Kumbaga hindi pa tapos yung ating pamumuhunan, kailangan siguraduhin natin na hindi masayang 'yung investment natin,' he said. (This program invests in the public and Filipinos. This is an investment on human capital. Our investments are not yet over, so we need to ensure that what we have poured in would not be wasted.) Gatchalian noted that the length of a beneficiary's stay in the program should depend on their state and quality of life, and if they would be able to support themselves after graduating from the program. 'Tinignan ng Pangulo yung kapakanan nila at yung estado nila sa buhay rather than yung pipilitin natin na alis sila sa programa, masasayang ang pamumuhunan natin sa kanila at masasayang yung programa sa whole,' he shared. (The President is considering their welfare and state of life rather than forcing them to leave the program, and it would be a waste of our investment on them and the program as a whole.) 'Kailan tignan natin yung estado ng pamilya: Kaya na ba talaga nilang tumayo sa kanilang sariling paa? Yung mga anak ba nila, nakatapos na?' he added. (We need to look at the state of the family: Can they now stand on their own? Have their kids been able to finish their studies?) The DSWD Secretary shared that 1.4 million Filipinos have already graduated from the 4Ps program since it began in 2022. — RF, GMA Integrated News

PH faces up to P6B in annual foregone revenues from US market access
The Philippines is estimated to incur up to P6 billion in foregone revenues each year from the markets it will open to the United States with zero tariffs under the latest trade agreement between the two countries, Finance Secretary Ralph Recto said Tuesday. According to Recto, the foregone revenues cover those collected from the importation of products that the Philippines has agreed to open to the US, which would ultimately benefit Filipino consumers. 'Unang estimate natin is P3 (billion) to P6 billion a year, depende kung lahat 'yan. Remember there's nothing final yet,' he told reporters on the sidelines of the Post-SONA Discussions in San Juan City. 'Assuming ibigay mo what we discussed with them like cars, soys, wheat, pharmaceuticals, soybeans, anywhere from P3 to P6 billion, pero wala pang final lahat 'yan,' he added. (Our initial estimate is P3 to P6 billion a year, depending on the scope. Remember, there's nothing final yet. Assuming we grant what we discussed with them like cars, soys, wheat, pharmaceuticals, soybeans, anywhere from P3 to P6 billion but none of that is final yet.) Just last week, US President Donald Trump announced a new 19% tariff rate for Philippine goods. This is lower than the 20% announced in a letter earlier this month, but higher than the 17% rate announced during the Liberation Day Tariffs in April. Posting on his Truth Social media platform, Trump initially said the Philippines is going open market with the United States with zero tariffs, while the Philippines would pay a 19% tariff. President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr., who had a meeting with Trump before the 19% rate was announced, has since clarified that the zero tariffs on US products would only apply to certain markets such as automobiles. 'Not all imports will go down, so hihingin natin (so we will ask), especially those that do not compete with local industries and beneficial to consumers,' Recto said. Overall, Recto said the 19% rate on Philippine exports is still beneficial to the country, given its comparative advantage to other countries that have been slapped with higher rates. 'We have one of the lowest tariffs in the world if you take a look, so beneficial sa atin dun (so that's beneficial for us). Siyempre tatamaan din 'yung exports natin (Of course, our exports will be hit) initially, but as a whole, it looks like we have a better deal than many other countries,' he said. Economists earlier said the latest agreement will only have a limited impact on the country's economy given its low dependence on American demand compared with other Asian economies, with local exporters bearing the brunt. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
