Tesco introduces new perk to help Clubcard members earn more points

Clubcard members will need an electric vehicle to earn the extra points. Tesco Clubcard members are in for a treat, as there is a new way to earn points when getting their groceries. However, there is one catch, they'll need an electric vehicle. The supermarket giant's loyalty scheme currently allows card holders to earn one point on every £1 spent when they shop online and in store, alongside for every litre of fuel they fill up with at the forecourt. ‌ Now anyone with an EV will be able to claim extra points when they charge their vehicle at one of Tesco's Pod electric vehicle chargers, available at both superstores and Extra stores. ‌ The new initiative will provide one point for every pound spent at the Vauxhall-branded chargers that are said offer various power levels, with some of them offering the first 15 minutes free of charge. Tesco's partnership with Pod Point, which began in 2019, now offers roughly 2,600 Vauxhall branded charging stations at more than 600 Tesco car parks across the whole of the UK. In addition, electric vehicle drivers will be able to earn 2,500 points when they sign up to as a new customer to Pod's all-inclusive home charging subscription Pod Drive. These points can then be converted into the regular £25 Clubcard voucher that can be spent in store or online, or they can be doubled to £50 when spent at one of Tesco's 100 Rewards partners. Clubcard members are being told that, to earn the extra points, they will need to start their order through the offer page on the Pod website. ‌ They will also need to sign into their Tesco Clubcard account as part of the sign-up process to link their order, allowing Clubcard points to be credited once the home charger is successfully installed. Tesco's Group Membership and Loyalty Director Shama Wilson said: "Our customers have long been able to collect points on fuel from Tesco, but with an increasing number of drivers switching to electric vehicles we are delighted that shoppers will now be able to collect Clubcard points when they charge their cars at our stores, thanks to our exciting partnership with Pod. ‌ 'You can now park at your local Tesco and top-up your electric vehicle while you shop, in the knowledge that you are collecting Clubcard points towards a future Tesco shop or to exchange with one of our Reward Partners." Pod's CEO Melanie Lane said: 'We're thrilled to deepen our longstanding partnership with Tesco and provide an incentive for Clubcard members to make the switch to an EV and join over a quarter million customers that trust Pod with their charging needs. 'We know that the more that EVs blend with peoples' everyday routines, the more it makes sense to go electric, and with our unique partnership we're able to align drivers' charging experiences across both home and public charging points. ‌ 'Fresh from repositioning the business as Pod and launching Pod Drive, we're committed to building momentum and bringing our brilliant partners on our mission; to make EV charging easy and affordable for everyone.' It comes after we just reported that Tesco is set to trial shorter hours in select smaller stores, with some of its Express branches closing at 10pm in place of the usual 11pm. According to the supermarket, it was making "tweaks" to its operations that would not be visible to customers, ensuring its stores would continue to operate "in the most efficient way."

Warning issued to drivers with 'stop-start' technology in cars

Pressing the simple button can help save drivers money. Motorists who have a start and stop button in their vehicles are being urged to use it wisely to save them money on their fuel bills. Experts believe drivers can cut their fuel consumption by pressing the simple button in their cars. Driving professionals at the AA said: 'Yes, start-stop technology can save you fuel, especially in stop-and-go traffic. By shutting off the engine when it's not needed, you use less fuel over time. ‌ 'The added bonus here is that you'll save money in the long run, because you won't need to top up at a petrol station as often. There's a common worry that frequent starting and stopping can harm the engine. ‌ 'However, Stop-start systems are designed to prevent engine damage by using reinforced starter motors and batteries that can handle frequent restarts. These systems ensure that the engine only stops and starts under optimal conditions, reducing wear and tear on engine components and maintaining durability.' According to research from the American Automobile Association found that stop-start technology resulted in a 5 to 7 percent improvement in fuel economy, reports Birmingham Live. Dispelling myths, the RAC added: "If you're stuck in traffic for a minute and your engine switches off, the lubricants will not cool down to damaging levels. "If you find yourself stationary for a longer period of time, the system is designed to start the engine automatically before lubricant temperatures drop too dramatically. As a result, engines restart with a significant amount of fluid in the engine chamber." Stop-start tech is just one of the more modern features of newer cars, and is known as driver assistance technology. A 2023 survey found that more than 60 per cent of drivers with push-button start systems had no idea their car had a hidden emergency start feature. ‌ That means millions of people could be unnecessarily calling for roadside assistance or locksmiths when they could start their car themselves. Fob batteries can drain faster than expected, especially in extreme temperatures or if buttons are accidentally pressed while in a bag or pocket. Knowing how to locate and use the emergency start feature could save you time, money, and stress. The location of this feature varies by manufacturer, but in most modern vehicles, you'll find it in one of these places: On the start/stop button itself. Some cars have a built-in RFID reader that still recognises the fob when it's pressed directly against the button. Inside the centre console or armrest. A small slot or pad designed to detect your fob, even if its battery is drained. Near the steering column. Some models have an emergency key fob reader positioned under or beside the steering wheel. In the glovebox or under the cupholder. A discreet sensor designed for backup ignition.

Police later said: "The A525 at Bangor on Dee has been closed due to an overturned lorry. The road is likely to be closed for some time whilst recovery is arranged.
