1 injured in rollover after police chase in Brookings
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A vehicle police chase ended in a rollover and one man taken to the hospital early Sunday morning in Brookings, a news release from the City of Brookings said.
Crews respond to weekend house fire near Humboldt
Shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday, April 20, a Brookings police officer attempted to stop a 2008 Black Dodge going 47 in a 30 mile per hour zone on 6th Street near Main Avenue.
The driver, Brandon Kendall, 24, from Mitchell, failed to stop and continued driving toward the bypass on 6th Street. He missed the bypass lane, overturning his vehicle.
Kendall was transported by ambulance to the Brookings Health System where he was treated for lacerations and is expected to be released.
Any charges against Kendall will be filed upon his release from the hospital. The investigation is still pending.

(KGET) — Negotiations are continuing in the case of a Bakersfield woman who's facing a felony charge in connection with a deadly crash that occurred after she allowed her unlicensed teen son to drive her Dodge Charger. David A. Torres, defense attorney for Candie Springer, said in court Wednesday he submitted a mitigation packet to prosecutors and they need two weeks to review it. Judge John W. Lua set the next hearing for June 25. Springer, who was not present Wednesday, was ordered to appear. A mitigation packet is intended to provide a complete picture of the defendant and can include school and work history, character letters and information on prior minimal or lack of a criminal record. Springer, 47, has no prior cases listed against her in Kern County. She's charged with felony child cruelty and a misdemeanor count of allowing an unlicensed person to operate a motor vehicle. In 2023, Springer let her then-15-year-old son take her car for what she thought would be a quick trip to the market. Jace Springer instead picked up friends, sped on city streets and led police on a chase that ended with him crashing into a tree. A passenger died. Auburn Police: Two charged in alleged attempted murder; victim knew one suspect
AUBURN, Ala. (WRBL) – A man and woman have been arrested and charged with attempted murder after a 33-year-old Auburn man was shot multiple times early Sunday morning, June 8. Auburn Police responded around 12:40 a.m. to the 4000 block of Moores Mill Road following reports of gunfire. Officers arrived to find the victim critically wounded. He was given emergency medical aid at the scene and transported to the hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery to save his life. He is now in stable condition. Police say 28-year-old Rashound Eric Tremaine Sawyer of Tifton, Georgia, and 26-year-old Carmella Star Spinks of Auburn were later arrested in connection to the shooting. Both are charged with Attempted Murder. Investigators say the victim knew at least one of the suspects. However, police have not released information about what led up to the shooting. Sawyer, who has a previous robbery conviction in Georgia, was also charged with Certain Persons Forbidden to Possess a Firearm after detectives found him in possession of a .32 caliber revolver believed to be used in the shooting. Sawyer is being held in the Lee County Jail without bond. Spinks has been released on a $75,000 bond. Anyone with information is asked to contact Auburn Police at 334-501-3110. Miami Marlins join efforts to restore defaced Jackie Robinson and Minnie Miñoso mural
MIAMI — The Miami Marlins are joining efforts to restore the defaced mural of baseball legends Jackie Robinson and Minnie Miñoso in Miami's Overtown neighborhood, which was marked with racist graffiti last week. City of Miami Chairwoman Christine King announced Wednesday that she along with the Marlins, Urgent, Inc., Omni Community Redevelopment Agency, Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Agency and other community activists will lead the restoration at Dorsey Park, where community leaders said a 7-year-old boy first discovered the vandalism last Sunday and asked his mother what the words and the Nazi symbols meant. 'This vile assault was an attack on our values, history, and community,' King said in a statement. 'We are actively working with law enforcement and the public to identify the individual(s) responsible for this intolerable act. However, even in the darkest hours, light finds its way to shine. This is a reminder and testament to the strength of our community, coming together to restore peace, beauty, and pride to this neighborhood.' Police were investigating the incident but have not made any arrests. City workers have since partially covered the murals of Robinson and Miñoso, an Afro-Cuban player, with wooden boards. The murals are along a fence at Dorsey Park, where Negro League teams once played baseball. The Marlins' home ballpark loanDepot park is just a few miles from the park. 'In light of the deeply troubling acts of vandalism at Dorsey Park, the Miami Marlins today proudly stand in solidarity with the City of Miami Chairwoman Christine King, and our local leaders in unequivocally condemning this hateful and racist act,' said Marlins owner Bruce Sherman. 'Dorsey Park is not only a landmark of historical and cultural significance in South Florida — it is a powerful symbol of resilience, pride, and the enduring contributions of trailblazers to the game of baseball.' Robinson broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball when he signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947 to become the first Black player. Miñoso became the league's first Afro-Latino player and the first Black player for the Chicago White Sox.
