Israeli airstrikes rock Damascus and Southern Syria
Published May 2nd, 2025 - 10:36 GMT
ALBAWABA - On Thursday night, Israeli aircraft conducted a series of raids across Syria, hitting a number of targets and generating deafening explosions in the capital, Damascus, and other areas. The assaults come a day after an Israeli strike near Damascus' presidential palace, according to Al Jazeera. Also Read Israel strikes near Damascus palace amid Druze protection pledge
The journalist for Al Jazeera said that seven Israeli airstrikes struck rural parts of Damascus, including the vicinity of Harasta and Al-Tal. The city was filled with the sound of explosions. Al Jazeera was informed by local sources that a number of people were injured, especially in Harasta, where an Israeli attack occurred close to the 41st Regiment near a military hospital.
Furthermore, four people were injured when Israeli airplanes struck the area of Shatha village in northern Hama Province, according to Syrian state media (SANA). There was no information given on the extent of the injuries.
Areas around Izraa in the southern Daraa Province were also the target of further Israeli attacks. Syrian reports, however, did not name the targets. Heavy Israeli aircraft action in a number of Syrian provinces, including Hama, Latakia, and Homs, coincided with the air attacks.

The raids were carried out a day after Israeli planes targeted a region close to Damascus' presidential palace. Later, Israel's military acknowledged the action and said it was a direct message to the Syrian government. In a joint statement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said that Israel would not allow Syrian military troops to harm the Druze population or deploy south of Damascus.
The most recent attacks came as Syrian Druze leaders, in a statement, reaffirmed their opposition to any partition or separation of Syria. Their dedication to a single Syrian state was underlined. This came after earlier in the week, a leaked audio clip that purportedly insulted the Prophet Muhammad caused unrest and increased tensions in Druze-majority regions including Ashrafiyat Sahnaya and Jaramana.
Since then, the Syrian government and Druze leaders have come to an agreement to improve security and seize illicit weapons in certain areas.
Israeli aircraft, however, persisted in their aerial patrols, maintaining a high level of alertness over the southern and central Syrian provinces.

FM: Israel's decision to ban Arab Committee's visit to West Bank confirms its extremism
Ammon News - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi said that the Israeli occupation's decision to prevent the entry of a delegation from the ministerial committee assigned by the extraordinary joint Arab-Islamic summit on Gaza into the West Bank confirms the extremism of the Israeli government. In a joint press conference held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Safadi stressed the Palestinian people's right to statehood, security, and peace, and to an end to the war on Gaza, noting that His Majesty King Abdullah II, during his meeting with the delegation on Sunday, emphasized the importance of the committee's role in mobilizing an effective international stance to halt the war on Gaza. We want a just peace and are working towards it, while the Israeli government continues its illegal steps, Safadi added. Safadi explained that the Arab-Islamic delegation, during the meeting with the Palestinian President, stressed the importance of a ceasefire in Gaza and the entry of aid into the Strip.

Houthi Official: We Allowed British Aircraft Carrier to Pass Through Red Sea - Jordan News
Houthi Official: We Allowed British Aircraft Carrier to Pass Through Red Sea Yemen's Houthi group announced late Friday that it had permitted a British aircraft carrier to pass through the Red Sea after the vessel communicated with them and declared it was 'transiting for maneuvers and not conducting any combat operations.' اضافة اعلان The announcement was made in a post on X by Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, a member of the group's Supreme Political Council. Al-Houthi stated that the group had been contacted 'regarding the passage of the British aircraft carrier (HMS), which said it would transit for maneuvering purposes and would not carry out any combat operations in the Red Sea.' He added that the group informed the British side it would allow the passage of the carrier 'as long as it is on a non-combat mission or does not pose an aggressive intent, in order to avoid distracting the armed forces (Houthis) from supporting Gaza, which is facing extermination by the Israeli entity.' As of 07:00 GMT, there had been no immediate comment from British authorities on the matter. The UK has previously joined the U.S. in conducting repeated airstrikes against the Houthis in Yemen, in response to the group's attacks in the Red Sea. The Houthis remain committed to launching missiles toward Israel as long as Tel Aviv continues what they describe as a genocide in the Gaza Strip. Missile attacks launched from Yemen toward Israel have led several international airlines to suspend flights to Israel for varying periods. — (Anadolu Agency)

Hamas: Israel took advantage, massacred hungry Palestinians
Hamas condemned the Israeli Occupation for committing a "horrific massacre" after dozens of Palestinians were killed and more than 150 injured early Saturday morning while attempting to collect food aid west of Rafah. According to the group, the victims were responding to a distribution announcement made by the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) when they were fired upon in what Hamas called a deliberate and premeditated attack. In a press statement issued Saturday afternoon, Hamas described the "Israeli"-controlled aid distribution system in southern Gaza as a "trap," claiming it is designed to lure hungry civilians before targeting them with live fire. 'This massacre confirms the fascist nature of the occupation,' the group said, adding that the aid centers are being used as 'bait' under the guise of humanitarian assistance. 'Thousands of citizens, already enduring a genocidal war and unprecedented starvation, responded to the occupation's call to receive aid,' the statement read. 'Instead, they were met with brutal gunfire. This was a planned crime.' The Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza reported that at least 35 people were killed, with more than 150 wounded. The incident is the latest in a series of violent episodes surrounding the controversial Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) aid hubs, which operate under the IOF's oversight and have drawn criticism from both local and international organizations. Hamas squarely blamed both "Israel" and the US for the mounting casualties, accusing Washington of backing what it described as a 'bloody mechanism' that uses food aid as a tool of war. 'We hold the Zionist occupation, along with the US administration, fully responsible for the massacres,' the statement declared. The group is calling for an urgent and binding resolution from the UN Security Council to halt the aid system, open Gaza's crossings immediately, and guarantee the flow of humanitarian relief through established UN agencies. It also urged the UN to launch an independent international investigation into what it described as systematic crimes against civilians. Hamas concluded the statement by appealing to Arab and Islamic nations to act swiftly to pressure for an end to what it called a "brutal war of extermination," and to ensure unimpeded humanitarian access to the enclave.
