Rumor: iPhone 17 Pro will zoom past 5x optically, have Pro camera app

Here's a wild iPhone 17 Pro rumor for you! According to a tipster cited by MacRumors, the iPhone 17 Pro could have an 8x optical zoom camera, a new Pro camera app, and even a second, physical Camera Control button.
The tipster is reportedly familiar with a promo film for Apple for the launch of the iPhone 17 Pro. So a level of skepticism is needed here.
According to the tipster, the iPhone 17 Pro will employ a new zoom module with a physically-moving lens, which can go to different lengths. So it's either a Sony Xperia 1-like continuous zoom camera, or a Huawei Pura 80 Ultra two-focal-length zoom module. That will allow the iPhone 17 Pro to move past the 5x furthest zoom of the current iPhone 16 Pro.
The next part of the rumor is a new Pro camera app that will launch alongside the new iPhone 17 Pro. It will reportedly be able to compete with staples such as Halide, Kino, and Filmic Pro. This ties in nicely with previous reports that Apple will boost the video-taking capabilities of its iPhone 17 models.
The 8x optically-zooming camera was wild enough, but what comes next is wilder still. Per the report, the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max could end up adding a second, physical camera control button on the top edge of the devices. It will reportedly work to complement the existing Camera Control button on the bottom part of the right edge of the phones.
Finally, the tipster reportedly corroborated existing rumors of a centered Apple logo and a new copper-like color option.

New rumor claims Qualcomm's chip with model number SM8845 may be called Snapdragon 8 Gen 5

Qualcomm is hosting the Snapdragon Summit next month, where it's expected to introduce its new flagship chip, which will power the majority of the Android flagships next year. The chip reportedly has model number SM8850 and will either be called the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 or Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2. There have also been rumors of another high-end Snapdragon chip, having model number SM8845, and according to popular leakster Digital Chat Station, it may be called Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. Note that this is not the Snapdragon 8s Gen 5, which would succeed the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will sit above the Snapdragon 8s Gen 5 but will be a tier below the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2. If this rumor is true, it marks a significant shift in Qualcomm's naming convention because after launching the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 flagship chip, Qualcomm adopted a new naming convention, and what was expected to be called the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 was introduced as the Snapdragon 8 Elite instead. Regardless of what the SM8845 SoC will be called, it's unclear if it will go official at the Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii next month alongside the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 SoC or will be introduced later. The Motorola Razr (2024) remains a solid choice for flip phone enthusiasts at $200 off

Flip phones are great — they fit easily into pockets and are fun to interact with. And when they're on sale, they're even more exciting. If you've been on the fence, now's the perfect time to jump in: Amazon is offering a generous $200 discount on the Motorola Razr (2024). $200 off (29%) Motorola's 2024-released mid-range flip phone, the Razr (2024) still holds its own. With a gorgeous design, great everyday performance, and two beautiful displays, it's a top pick for many. And now, the device sells for $200 off at Amazon, making it even more attractive. Buy at Amazon Sure, this isn't the first time the discount has popped up, but that doesn't make it any less impressive. After all, who wouldn't want to get a ~$700 phone for less than $500? Better yet, Amazon is spreading the price cut across multiple colors, making it even more attractive. But what's so awesome about this Android phone, besides the hefty price cut? Firstly, it features a beautiful 3.6-inch cover screen and a 6.9-inch main display, offering vibrant colors and a great visual experience. Still, since it's a "mid-range foldable", the device supports a 90Hz refresh rate on its cover screen and up to 120Hz on the main panel, so keep that in mind. Performance-wise, the handset delivers a fantastic everyday experience. Apps launch quickly, and day-to-day performance feels snappy. Still, as you can see from our Motorola Razr (2024) review, its MediaTek Dimensity 7300X processor doesn't exactly shine on the benchmark tests. The good news is that you get pretty good-looking photos from this fella. It packs a 50MP main sensor, delivering great dynamics and vibrant colors. That said, there's some oversharpening in some settings that may make your photos look a bit less natural. Battery life is another strong point. Thanks to a 4,200mAh battery, it can keep going for over 18 hours of nonstop browsing—or more than 10 hours of continuous streaming. At the end of the day, the 2024 flip phone might not be your primary choice now that the Razr (2025) is here. However, this buddy is going for about $600 right now. So, if you're after a solid flip experience without overspending, now's your chance to save $200 on the Razr (2024) at Amazon.
