Son to miss Spurs' Europa League trip to Frankfurt - World
Son Heung-min will miss Tottenham's crunch Europa League return leg at Eintracht Frankfurt with a foot injury, manager Ange Postecoglou said Wednesday.
The South Korean did not make the trip to Germany, having missed Saturday's Premier League match at Wolverhampton.
"Sonny didn't travel in the end, he's the only one that misses out," Postecoglou told the pre-match press conference.
"He's been battling with his foot problem for a few weeks now and managed (to play) through it.
"He trained the last few days, he tried to train yesterday and it wasn't right so we made the decision to leave him at home to allow him to recuperate".
Son has three goals and one assist in nine Europa League games this season.
After a 1-1 draw in London, where Spurs' Pedro Porro cancelled out Hugo Ekitike's early strike, whoever wins at the Waldstadion on Thursday will make the final four.
Postecoglou comes into Thursday's match under pressure after Spurs' struggles in the league.
The Australian said he "couldn't care less" about personal criticism, adding: "If you don't think I'm a good coach that's not going to change because of what happens tomorrow.
"We've got a great opportunity tomorrow and I'm not going to let that slip by without fighting tooth and nail."
Frankfurt coach Dino Toppmoeller said Tottenham's latest league setback, a 4-2 loss to lowly Wolverhampton on Sunday, plays "absolutely no role because their only focus is the Europa League".
Toppmoeller also shot down suggestions his side, sitting third in the Bundesliga, were favourites against a Spurs team in 15th place in the Premier League.
"It doesn't matter whether any team is the favourite or not," he said.
Frankfurt captain and goalkeeper Kevin Trapp has failed to recover from injury in time to play, with Kaua Santos set to continue to deputise for the German between the sticks.
Frankfurt won the Europa League in 2022, defeating Rangers on penalties in Seville and the topic came up in Wednesday's press conference.
Asked about the potential for a penalty shootout, always a topic in meetings between English and German opposition, Toppmoeller was bullish.
"I have absolutely no fear of a shootout, because I have total confidence in the boys. And if it comes to penalties, we'll win on penalties."

The 51-year-old Dane, who has been in charge of Brentford since 2018 and established them in the top flight, will take charge of a club that will take part in next year's Champions League after they won the Europa League last month in Bilbao. "In Thomas we are appointing one of the most progressive and innovative head coaches within the game," a club statement said. "He has a proven track record in player and squad development and we look forward to him leading the team as we prepare for the season ahead." Australian Postecoglou's achievement in delivering Spurs' first trophy for 17 years was overshadowed by a woeful Premier League season which saw them finish 17th with 22 defeats, their worst campaign since the club were relegated in 1977. Frank began his coaching career with Denmark's under-age sides before taking charge at Brondby in 2013, leaving in March 2016 and in December that year joined Brentford as assistant to Dean Smith in the Championship (second tier). In October 2018, after the dismissal of Smith, Frank was appointed Bees manager. "From the moment he replaced Dean Smith, he understood what we were trying to build and his wisdom, coaching ability and emotional intelligence have helped transform the club," Brentford Director of Football Phil Giles said. "We will never forget Thomas, but now it is time to thank him and take the next steps in our journey with a new leader who we believe can be just as successful and influential." Frank has been impressive during his time at Brentford -- creating a high-scoring side who have punched above their weight since reaching the Premier League in 2021 via the playoffs. In their four Premier League seasons under Frank, Brentford have finished 13th, 9th, 16th and 10th and last term only four teams scored more than their 66 goals. A keen user of player data, Frank and his backroom staff have proved especially adept at unearthing gems and selling those players on for huge profits, such as forwards Ollie Watkins, Ivan Toney and Said Benrahma plus goalkeeper David Raya Despite the outgoings, Brentford have managed to remain competitive in the top flight under Frank and last season were in the mix for European qualification. Forwards Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa scored 39 Premier League goals between them last season and both could well be Tottenham targets during the close season. Frank has gained a reputation for his attention to detail and it is no surprise that his Brentford side scored inside 40 seconds in three successive league games last season. "We have a kick-off strategy and we tweak it from game-to-game. And as a mindset and philosophy, we like to get straight on the front foot and be positive," Frank said at the time. He now faces a completely different challenge at Tottenham and a fast start to his reign will be important to win over fans who felt Postecoglou should have been rewarded for winning a trophy by being given another season at the helm. Brentford assistant first-team coach Justin Cochrane, head of athletic performance Chris Haslam and first-team analyst Joe Newton are also joining Frank at Spurs, along with Andreas Georgson from Manchester United.

'I have left a big piece of my heart at Brentford', says new Spurs boss Frank - World
Thomas Frank said on Friday he had "left a big piece of my heart" at Brentford after taking on the daunting task of reviving Tottenham's Premier League fortunes. Spurs announced the Dane as their new head coach on a three-year deal on Thursday, as a replacement for the sacked Ange Postecoglou. Frank, 51, won 136 of his 317 matches across a seven-year spell at Brentford, taking them into the Premier League in 2021. In an emotional message posted on Brentford's website Frank said: "The time has come for me to move on. But, even as I leave, I know I have left a big piece of my heart at Brentford, not just at the football club but with the community and, of course, the incredible and loyal supporters. "I want to extend my profound gratitude to the club for giving me the chance to pursue my dreams and for everyone involved who made the journey such a memorable one." He said it had been a privilege to be allowed to be part of such a "special community". "Whatever we have achieved, we have achieved together, and our success is built on unity, spirit, courage and ambition at every level of the club and amongst the fans," he said. "Everybody has contributed, and every contribution has been invaluable. I am not just leaving a football club, I am saying goodbye to friends whose support through good and bad times I will carry with me always." Frank, who becomes Tottenham's fourth permanent boss since 2021, is tasked with lifting the club back among the Premier League's elite. Spurs will play in the Champions League next season thanks to their Europa League success in Bilbao, where they beat Manchester United 1-0 in the final.
