Dinesh Karthik's Brilliant Reply After Nasser Hussain's Jibe At Shubman Gill: 'Made Me Laugh'
Nasser Hussain took a shot at Shubman Gill for slamming England's time-wasting tactics before Dinesh Karthik corrected him.
Shubman Gill didn't back down when questioned about his reaction to England's time-wasting tactics towards the final few minutes of the third day of the Lord's Test that saw him confront Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett. Gill wasn't amused after Crawley called up the team physio after being hit on the gloves with the Indian players applauding sarcastically.
In a fiery response, Gill told Crawley to 'grow some f***** b***s!".
England players took an exception to Gill & Co.'s reaction and responded with verbal jibes of their own once they took the field. Ben Stokes later admitted that the Day 3 incident did fire up his team.
However, Gill clarified once and for all that he wasn't angry at Crawley trying to ensure that England won't face more overs from India pacers. He said the issue was with England coming '90 seconds" late to begin their innings.
'Yes, most of the teams use this tactic. Even if we were in a position, we would've also liked to play fewer overs, but there's a manner to do it… if you get hit on your body, the physios are allowed to come on, and that is something that is fair. But to be able to come 90 seconds late on the crease is not something that I would think comes in the spirit of the game," Gill told reporters.
After Karthik noted out how the Indian batters were cheeky in planting seeds of doubts in the umpire's mind about the light not being bright enough to continue the play, Hussain said, 'That's what made me laugh about Shubham Gill's press conference about England not being in the spirit of the game by delaying things, and England did delay it. Day 3, that one over, it was ridiculous, but every side does it, and India will do it tonight. Why would they want extra overs of Jofra Archer under the lights? Who would?"
Karthik was quick to point out Gill had questioned England taking 90 seconds to arrive in the middle.
'Difference being, I don't think India can take 90 seconds not wanting to bat, or rather not wanting to come down to bat. I think that's the problem that Shubham Gill said he had. It was just the fact that they came late to take the strike, that he had a problem with," said the former India wicketkeeper.

'You keep learning every day, because I learnt a lot from Day 1 in the series, till the last day. There were a lot of people there should have been a fourth fast bowler, but the guy who played instead of the fourth bowler. Karun's fifty in the first innings was equally important for us, which took us to a decent total. Such opinions will keep forming, especially in hindsight, after the match gets completed. But you got to weigh in what is important for you at that moment. We felt three fast bowlers will get the job done for us and they delivered. When decisions go your way, people will praise you, but had it not gone India's way, I am aware that shots would have been taken at me and I am fine with that because at the end of the day I know I made the decision with was best for the team,' he said. Indian Hockey team announces 24-man squad for Australia tour 2025
India, on Monday, included young defender Poovanna CB in the 24-member men's hockey team to be led by ace drag flicker Harmanpreet Singh for the four-match Tour of Australia, starting August 15 in Perth. The assignment will serve as an exposure tour for the team ahead of the all-important Asia Cup at home in Rajgir from August 29, which is also a World Cup Qualifier. "We are heading to Perth Australia to sharpen up ahead of the Asia Cup in Bihar. The focus will be on improving our physical conditioning and technical execution through quality training and warm up matches," chief coach Craig Fulton said. Fulton also spoke about testing youngsters in the squad and giving them the exposure ahead of important outings.
