But she says that when she shook the bottle to mix the milk, it burst open at both ends and the hot contents "exploded" over her chest.
Leona says she immediately began to scream and jumped into a cold shower to ease the burning sensation, which felt like she was "continuously being stabbed".
She rushed to Blackpool Victoria Hospital A&E, where she was told she had suffered second-degree burns from the hot milk solution.

MAM Baby - the maker of the the bottle - say they're "very concerned" by Leona's injuries and are investigating.
Leona, from Blackpool, Lancashire, said: "I boiled the kettle and left the water in for a little bit. The kettle was only half full.
I was bedbound for two weeks after out-of-date hot water bottle burst and left me with burns over my thighs and groin
"I poured the water into the baby's bottle after about 10 to 15 minutes [and added the milk formula] and then began shaking it.
"I then remember hearing a bang and both the top and the bottom [of the bottle] blew off. It exploded.
"All the hot milk went all over me. My whole body started burning and I thought I was going to die.
"The burn was on the whole of my left boob. All the skin started peeling off straight away.

"It was red and very sore. I screamed and burst out crying.
"I was in a lot of pain and couldn't stop thinking about it. It was horrible and felt like I was continuously being stabbed.

How to treat burns
Your skin has three layer; the outer layer (epidermis), the dermis (which contains vessels, nerves, hair follicles) and the deeper layer of fat (subcutis).
A full thickness burn is when all layers of skin are damaged, while a superficial burn is when only the top layer has been effected.
The NHS says to treat a burn:
Immediately get the person away from the heat source
Remove any clothing or jewellery, including babies' nappies, but do not move anything that's stuck to the skin
Cool the burn with cool or lukewarm running water for 20 to 30 minutes – do not use ice, iced water, or any creams or greasy substances like butter
Make sure the person keeps warm by using a blanket, for example
After cooling the burn, cover the burn by placing a layer of cling film over it – a clean plastic bag could also be used for burns on your hand
Use painkillers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen
Raise the affected area if possible to reduce swelling
If it's an acid or chemical burn, dial 999, carefully try to remove the chemical and any contaminated clothing, and rinse the affected area using as much clean water as possible
You should go to a hospital A&E department for:
All chemical and electrical burns
Large or deep burns – any burn bigger than the injured person's hand
Burns that cause white or charred skin – any size
Burns on the face, neck, hands, feet, any joints or genitals
"The burn site was 11cm long and 5cm wide and this covered my nipple.
"I won't wear low cut tops anymore [due to my scar] as it's quite ugly."
The MAM Baby instruction manual says "cooling time of at least 20 minutes is suggested by MAM for the boiled water to cool enough to be used for making up a bottle, however depending on the volume, the water still may be very hot after this time and you must be careful to avoid scalding".
Leona said she had prepared Arlo's feeds in this bottle since he was born on December 6 last year.
Leona said: "It's not a new bottle. I have had them for five months and used them since Arlo's birth.
"I use bottles like this every night and it's the first time it has happened.
"I use this bottle up to three times a day and I always make sure the top and bottom are screwed on properly, as they both come off."

Following her scalding, Leona says she has emailed a complaint to MAM Baby and is now using a different bottle brand to feed Arlo with.
Leona said: "The pain only stopped a couple of days ago. My skin is really tight so I hardly move my arm and it's just scarred.
"Mums need to be careful. These bottles are supposed to be safe for mums to be using around the baby and they obviously aren't.
"This bottle is meant for hot milk to go in. Your kettle water has to be 70 degrees to kill the bacteria in the formula.
"I let the kettle water cool down for 15 minutes before putting it in the bottle to make sure it was safe for my baby and safe to shake as well."
MAM Baby's response
A spokesperson for MAM said: "The safety of our customers and their babies is at the forefront of everything we do and MAM is committed to ensuring the highest quality standards.
"All of our products are rigorously tested and meet applicable safety standards. The bottle type in question is certified to EN standard 14350:2020.
"We are very concerned about Leona's injury and are currently arranging for her bottle to be collected to enable us to thoroughly test it and investigate the circumstances around the accident.
"Clear instructions on safe use are supplied with every bottle. These include never pouring boiling water into the bottle and allowing boiled water to cool for at least 20 minutes before introducing it to a bottle to reduce the risk of scalding.
"While preparing a bottle, we recommend that you should never do it with a baby close by and always shake gently with the base facing away over a sink while wrapped in a towel or cloth."

Amy Lambert, 36, and her husband Richard Lambert, 37, had driven to Dorset on August 4 for a week's holiday with their two sons Harry and Tommy, 6. The family enjoyed the first five days of their holiday playing on Avon beach in Mudeford, Christchurch. But when the family-of-four visited the beach on August 9th, the mum-of-two said Harry ran over a 'hot' patch of sand while playing and began to scream. Company director Richard rushed Harry into the sea to try and cool his scorched feet down in the water, initially baffled by what had upset him. As Harry continued to cry, Amy rushed her son back up to the lodge where they were staying and ran his feet under the sink for 20 minutes. But when this offered no relief, the company director drove him to Royal Bournemouth Hospital in Bournemouth, Dorset, where she was told he had suffered surface burns on his feet. Wince-inducing photos show the two-year-old's scorched feet had erupted with 'fluid-filled' blisters on each toe, before they were carefully bandaged up. After flagging the incident to a lifeguard after it happened, it was later discovered to be a fire pit concealed by sand that was still burning. Now healing, Amy is sharing her son's story to urge people to put out fire pits and disposable BBQs on the beach properly - to ensure it doesn't happen to anyone else. "He had blisters on every one of his toes and the soles of his feet were bright red." At the hospital, Harry had both his feet bandaged up and returned the next day for a check up. Thankfully, Amy says his injuries are now healing well and he will not need surgery on his feet. Amy said: "He still had the blisters on his toes but they were happy with his progress. "He has three blisters that are quite large and round and filled with fluid but the others are quite flat. "Harry is very lucky. He is only small and if he had fallen over or hit his face, it could have been worse. "He's a little water baby and loves to be down near the sea. "We do intend to get him back down there as soon as we can so he's not worried. It's not something we'd ever think would happen to him." Since the incident, Amy has now shared Harry's story on social media to warn people about the importance of disposing of their beach BBQs and fire pits properly. Amy said: "For me, I've always known not to cover a BBQ but maybe people don't know this. "If you're down on the beach in the evening having a good time, you're probably not thinking about the people the next day. "They probably think that if they cover it, it will be cold the next day. Actually it's making it worse as sand is a conductor and generates more heat. "It was just as hot as if there was still a fire there. You just need to cool it down and get rid of it properly." Anthony Rogers, head of seafront at BCP Council, said: "It is disappointing that the inconsideration of others has ruined what should have been a lovely trip to the beach for the Lambert family. "Disposable BBQs are only allowed on our beaches from 6pm to 10.30pm and we consistently ask everyone who uses one to dispose of them properly - that means extinguishing them carefully and leaving it next to our bins ready for collection. I was doing face mask when I noticed swollen eye before shock diagnosis & had to have it REMOVED
A MUM suffering with a swollen eye was forced to have it REMOVED after cancer pushed it out of the socket - leaving her with a bulging eyeball. Sara McGarvey first noticed her right eye was swollen when she did a face mask one night in January 2023. After a CT scan, MRI scan and two biopsies, Sara was diagnosed with undifferentiated round cell By that point the tumour, which was located in the top corner of her right eyelid, had caused Sara's eyeball to 'turn sideways' and bulge further and further out of her head. The mum-of-one feared 'she was going to die' and underwent five gruelling rounds of chemotherapy in a desperate attempt to shrink the cancer. Advertisement READ MORE IN HEALTH After the chemotherapy was unsuccessful, Sara had surgery to remove her right eyeball, as well as the tumour, in November 2023. To ensure that the cancer had been removed completely, Sara underwent seven weeks of proton beam therapy at The Christie Hospital in Manchester in February 2024. The 36-year-old rang the bell to signify the end of her treatment on April 12th 2024 and received the news that she was cancer free in May 2024. Sara credits her colleagues with 'saving her life' as they pushed her to visit the eye clinic. Advertisement Most read in Health Now cancer-free for more than a year, Sara is encouraging anyone who finds a lump or anything unusual to visit their doctor as soon as possible and not wait to get it checked. 'GRIM' Sara, from Co Down, "It got progressively worse between January and April [2023]. It didn't necessarily move out, it kind of turned. "It got progressively worse and it took six months to get an actual diagnosis. Advertisement "For sarcoma that's relatively fast - people wait years for a diagnosis and by that stage it's too late. "I remember lying there in silence in the bath one night. I turned off the taps and it was just quiet. There was no noise - I didn't put any music on. "I remember just saying 'please don't let me die, please don't let me die'. "At the time the chemo wasn't attacking the tumour, it wasn't getting smaller and it wasn't getting bigger, so they decided that surgery would be the best option." Advertisement On November 30 2023, Sara underwent surgery to have the tumour removed, along with her right eye. Sara said: "At the time I didn't care that my eye was going to be removed, I just wanted rid of the cancer. "I just needed it to be gone. "My son was two at the time so to see me one day with two eyes and then the next day with one was probably quite difficult for him, but he managed it extremely well. Advertisement "I'm very lucky, I've had my son, my husband Andrew, and my mum Mary, who's a nurse - if it wasn't for her then it would have been so much more difficult." 'INDESCRIBABLE RELIEF' Sara says that being there to see her son Michael McGarvey, now aged four, grow up was her main concern and she was 'overjoyed' when she was given the all-clear in May 2024. Sara said: "I can't even describe it. It's indescribable relief. "I think for me a lot of my fear and anxiety was around Michael. Advertisement "When I was first diagnosed, my head went to protecting him and making sure that he was impacted as little as possible by what was going to happen next. "The fact that I could just go home and hug him and kiss him and play with him and be happy and healthy and watch him grow up and go to primary school. "These are all of the things that for a period of time I didn't think I was going to be able to do. "I was overjoyed, I was excited about what the future held." Advertisement 'SAVING HER LIFE' Sara credits her colleagues with 'saving her life' - and each year on the anniversary of a diagnosis she thanks them over text for pushing her to go for the check-up. Sara said: "If my friends at work didn't make me go to be seen [at the eye clinic] things could have been so different. "The sarcoma had the potential to grow very quickly and spread very quickly and if it wasn't caught when it was caught, the outcome would have been very much worse. "Every year on the anniversary of my diagnosis I text them to say thank you. Advertisement "They did absolutely save my life, 100 per cent, it was massive." WHAT IS UNDIFFERENTIATED ROUND CELL SOFT TISSUE SARCOMA? Undifferentiated round cell soft tissue sarcoma is an extremely rare form of sarcoma. It can start almost anywhere inside the soft tissue of the body including muscles, fat, blood vessels, ligaments and tendons. The most common symptom is a lump somewhere on your body which is usually solid to the touch, painless and hard to move around under the skin. Soft tissue sarcomas are usually treated using surgery and radiotherapy. Sara, who is now in the process of seeing a specialist doctor to have a prosthetic eye fitted, is encouraging anyone else who finds a lump to go to their doctor. Sara said: "When I had the surgery to remove it I didn't want Michael to be afraid of how I looked. "They used the top eyelid to close it over but then in February it started to open, which is why I now have a big hole. Advertisement "I have my first plastics appointment next week. "Initially I was told I might not be eligible for a prosthetic but the consultant thinks they can make me one, which is exciting. "Michael starts primary school this year in September so being able to look normal for him going to school is something I'm really, really excited about. "If anyone has a lump I'd say see a doctor straight away. Don't wait because I would have waited and then it could have been so much worse."
