Man, 34, charged with attempted kidnapping after 'children were approached at splash pad'
Moynul Janu, 34, of no fixed abode, has been charged with two counts of attempted kidnapping following several incidents at Victoria Park in Cardiff, The Sun reported.
South Wales Police were called after concerns were raised about Mr Janu's behaviour at the aquatic play area.
He is accused of approaching several children, with police calling for witnesses who may have seen anything to come forward.
Parents also raised fears that Janu had been secretly photographing and videoing their children in the park.
However, officers did not find any recording devices upon searching him.
The splash pad, which originally opened in 2016, was delayed in reopening this summer due to a wait on the delivery of parts from Italy, WalesOnline reported.
However, the play area was reportedly functional again by the end of May, with Cardiff Council officially announcing it on June 3.
The splash pad is in a Grade II-listed park in Canton in west Cardiff and has 33 features for children to experience, including sprays, jets, a giant tipping water bucket and a tunnel.
A South Wales Police spokesperson said: 'Just before midday on Thursday, July 3, officers attended Victoria Park, Cardiff, following a number of calls which raised concerns about a man's behaviour in the splash park area.
'Moynul Janu, 34, of no fixed abode has been charged with two counts of attempted kidnap and two counts of public order and has been remanded in police custody.
'Some people were concerned he had been taking photographs or recording children, but we can confirm when officers searched him, he was not in possession of any such devices.
'Anybody who may have information about the incident or who noticed something suspicious is urged to make contact.
'Please give reference 2500210810.'

Falsely accused Sycamore Gap suspect wore disguise after online trolling
A man who was wrongly accused of felling the Sycamore Gap has told how he had to wear a disguise to leave the house. Walter Renwick, a former lumberjack, was accused of cutting down the tree by online sleuths after the Sycamore Gap tree, which sat in a valley along Hadrian's Wall in Northumberland National Park for about 150 years, was chopped down. Police arrested Mr Renwick on Sept 29 2023, the day after the felling, and photos showed officers searching his home in Northumberland and removing a chainsaw from the property. Mr Renwick, who had recently been evicted from Plankey Mill Farm, near Bardon Mill, said: 'I'd just lost everything I had, my cows, my sheep, my parents' stuff. I'd lost my home and then this.' He then became the subject of online trolling following his arrest and felt uncomfortable going out in public, resorting to wearing a disguise. 'It was heartbreaking. There were police everywhere, drones flying around the valley, divers in the lake, they were 100 per cent certain I'd done it,' he told the BBC. 'Every time I went shopping in Haltwhistle or Hexham, people were nudging each other and saying, 'That's him that cut the tree down', stuff like that. I know it was daft but I put a Rod Stewart wig on so people didn't spot me.' Kevin Donald, a freelance journalist who was following the investigation into the tree felling, has said that Mr Renwick's arrest was 'a bit tenuous'. Northumbria Police then announced the arrest of a 16-year-old boy in Haltwhistle, who has asked not to be named, who was also taken into custody. Ed Corble, a bed and breakfast owner, said speculation in the boy's home town, five miles away from the Sycamore Gap, caused 'absolute chaos'. He said: 'His family had no idea why it was happening and for a 16-year-old to have the eyes of the world on him like that was so dangerous.' Mr Donald said the teenager received online abuse about the recent death of a relative. 'You've immediately got this trial by social media going on. It was all over the place that they'd arrested Walter and his grandson, but it turned out they didn't even know each other,' he said. By December 2023, Northumbria Police let both Mr Renwick and the 16-year-old go. The force said it had carried out a 'meticulous and proportionate investigation' and acknowledged the 'strength of feeling' caused by the felling of the tree. By then police had arrested Daniel Graham, 39, and Adam Carruthers, 32, both from Cumbria. The pair were each convicted of two counts of criminal damage and were sentenced to 10 years in prison at Newcastle Crown Court in May 2025.

Illegal camper ‘pushed over beach hut owner and spat in her face'
A beach hut owner was pushed over and spat on by an illegal camper, her husband has claimed. Carolane Davies, 59, and her husband Nathan Davies, 60, have owned a Bournemouth beach hut for five years, after spending seven years on a waiting list. They a number of illegal campers have recently used the area surrounding their hut, for which they pay Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council (BCP) £1,600 a year in ground rent. Mrs Davies was left with a cut to her arm after an illegal camper spat in her face and pushed her down at 3pm on July 4. The couple said they found the tent pitched next to their hut and moved it so it was not touching. Mr Davies said: 'We moved the tent about eight inches off the side of our hut, so it wasn't pressed right against it. Then I decided to go and find one of the rangers to see if they'd do something about it.' He continued: 'I walked about 150 yards away and realised my phone had no charge, so I turned back to get my power pack. As I turned, I saw a man who I assume had been staying in the tent ride up on a pushbike and jump off right in front of my wife. 'All she said was: 'You can't have your tent there.' He spat in her face, pushed her to the ground and started shouting abuse at her. It was shocking and completely unacceptable.' Passers-by were forced to block the man from attacking Mrs Davies any further. Mr Davies added: 'The police gave [the attacker] a dispersal order, but it's only for 24 hours so he could be back there now. Do we just go down there with trepidation of what could happen?' He said his wife was now too afraid to visit the beach hut alone, and accused the council of not doing enough to help. Mr Davies said: 'There are signs saying 'no camping', but they mean nothing because the council does nothing to enforce them. They put the onus on beach hut owners to get into confrontations with homeless people, which isn't right. 'I pointed out to police that there was another tent next to another hut and asked if they were going to do anything about that one and they said they can't because they haven't broken the law yet. 'So you have got to be assaulted before they will move someone on. It's absolutely despicable.' Mr Davies claimed beach-goers often go behind the huts to urinate, which makes the area smell. Dorset Police received a report at 3.09pm on Friday July 4 2025 of a man acting aggressively on Bournemouth beach. A spokesman for the force said: 'The man was issued with a section 35 dispersal notice and he subsequently left the area. There were no further complaints made by other members of the public. 'Officers are continuing to carry out increased patrols in the area of Bournemouth beach and the pier.' Cllr Kieron Wilson – Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole council's portfolio holder for housing and regulatory services – said: 'We are aware of a small number of tents on the beach and are working closely with members of our homelessness partnership, community safety officers, and the council's housing and communities' teams to provide support where necessary to these people. 'Separate to this, the council will address any negative behaviours, working closely with our partners to keep our seafront a safe, welcoming and clean place to visit.'
