Thai, Cambodian armies exchange charges of violating ceasefire

Saba Yemen6 days ago
Bangkok / Phnom Penh - Saba:
The Thai and Cambodian armies exchanged accusations on Tuesday of "violating the ceasefire," which took effect at midnight Monday, noting that "fighting continued today in several border locations."
After the ceasefire was announced, "violations were reported in the Phu Makua area, caused by the Cambodian side, which led to an exchange of fire between the two sides that continued until Tuesday morning," the Russian news agency Sputnik quoted Reach Sokswanon, deputy spokesman for the Thai military, as saying in a statement.
Clashes also took place in the Sam Tait area, which continued until 5:30 a.m. Thai military spokesman Winthai Suwari said, "Upon the entry into force of the agreement, the Thai side observed that Cambodian forces launched armed attacks on several areas within Thai territory."
This comes as Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manit announced Tuesday morning that the situation on the border with Thailand had calmed down after the ceasefire took effect at midnight on Monday.
"The front has calmed down after the ceasefire took effect at midnight on Monday, in line with the spirit of the agreement between Cambodia and Thailand during the special meeting in Malaysia," Hun Manit said in a social media post, according to China's Xinhua News Agency. "The early cessation of hostilities will also allow affected people, such as the displaced, to return to their homes and resume their normal lives as soon as possible."
For his part, Cambodian Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen affirmed in a separate statement that "the ceasefire and peace agreement is achieving positive and effective results."
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia had reached an agreement to implement a ceasefire starting at midnight on Monday, following a meeting held in Malaysia under his auspices.
It is worth noting that clashes between the two sides in the disputed border areas began on July 24, with both sides trading accusations of violating international law.

Putin announces Russian forces receive 1st batch of ‘Oryxnik' terrifying missiles

Moscow – Gaza: Russian President Vladimir Putin announced Friday that Russia has begun producing the 'Oryxnik' missiles, which have a destructive power comparable to nuclear weapons, and has delivered the first batch to the Russian military. Speaking at a meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Putin said, 'We have produced the first system and delivered it to the forces, and industrial production of these missiles has now started,' according to Sputnik news agency. During the informal meeting on Valaam Island in Karelia, the two presidents discussed plans to deploy the 'Oryxnik' missiles in Belarus. Putin indicated that deployment is expected to be completed by the end of this year. Military experts from both countries have identified sites for positioning these latest additions to Russia's missile arsenal. Earlier, Putin stated that if used in a large-scale strike, the power of the 'Oryxnik' missiles would be equivalent to nuclear weapons. However, he emphasized that the 'Oryxnik' is not a weapon of mass destruction due to its high precision and currently being equipped only with conventional warheads. Whatsapp Telegram Email Print

Thailand Accuses Cambodia of 'Serious Violation' of Truce

Bangkok - Saba: Thailand accused Cambodia on Wednesday of committing a "serious violation" of the ceasefire agreement reached between the two sides to halt border fighting, asserting that Cambodian forces "launched a nighttime attack with small arms and grenades." The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement: "This represents a blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement," adding that "this aggressive act constitutes yet another clear violation of the ceasefire agreement by Cambodian forces and demonstrates their lack of good faith." Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced on Monday that, following negotiations in Kuala Lumpur, Thailand and Cambodia had agreed to a ceasefire, which will take effect at midnight local time. At the same time, the two sides discussed other steps to de-escalate the border conflict. Clashes erupted between the two sides for five days over several ancient temples in disputed areas along their 800-kilometer border. Relations between the two countries deteriorated sharply following clashes on May 28 along a disputed section of the border, in which a Cambodian soldier was killed.
