Iraq lands 4th in Turkiye's June foreign property sales
Iraqis ranked fourth among foreign buyers of real estate in Turkiye in June, according to figures released Saturday by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT).
Home sales across the country rose 35.8% last month compared to the same period in 2024, totaling 107,665 units. Sales to foreigners increased by 8.7%, reaching 1,565 properties.
Russia led the list of foreign buyers with 326 homes, followed by Ukraine (111), Iran (109), and Iraq (97). Germany ranked fifth with 95, while Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, China, the United States, and Palestine followed in descending order.
Once the leading foreign buyers of Turkish real estate since 2015, Iraqis dropped to second place behind Iran in early 2021, slipped to third in April 2022 amid rising Russian demand, and now rank fourth as of early 2025.

Iraq's Umm Qasr Port handles +93K containers in July
Shafaq News – Basra Iraq's northern Umm Qasr Port in Basra recorded a sharp rise in shipping activity in July, signaling growing efficiency in Iraqi port operations and increasing confidence from global maritime carriers. Farhan Al-Fartousi, Director General of the General Company for Ports of Iraq, told Shafaq News that the port received 118 container vessels last month, handling over one million tons of cargo, a performance he described as 'remarkable.' He added that total container throughput reached 93,103 units, including 47,712 imported containers, 43,098 exported containers, and 2,293 for domestic products, with a combined weight of 1,074,315 tons. 'These figures reflect significant progress in handling efficiency and stable maritime traffic,' Al-Fartousi said, crediting the results to ongoing development plans, skilled operational teams, and the growing trust of international shipping lines in Iraq's port infrastructure.

TikTok removes 10 million Iraqi videos in Q1 on violations
Shafaq News – Baghdad TikTok removed more than 10 million videos in Iraq during the first quarter of 2025 for violating community guidelines, according to the platform's latest transparency report. The Q1 2025 report highlighted TikTok's efforts to 'foster a safer digital environment across several Arab countries.' In Iraq, the platform said 99.5% of violating content was removed proactively, while 95.5% was deleted within 24 hours of being posted. Regarding live content, TikTok reported banning over 346,000 hosts and shutting down around 650,000 live streams in Iraq during the same period due to similar violations. The report also noted that a total of 16.5 million videos were removed between January and March 2025 across Iraq, Egypt, Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates, and Morocco for breaching the platform's guidelines. Globally, TikTok shut down more than 19 million violating live streams during the first quarter of the year, a 50% increase from the previous quarter. Within the same period, the platform banned 849,976 live-stream hosts worldwide and preemptively removed more than 1.5 million live broadcasts across the five Arab countries mentioned. Earlier, Iraq's Minister of Communications, Hiyam Al-Yasiri, announced plans to ban TikTok in the country, where the app is used by over 34 million people. She cited widespread concerns from families about the platform's negative influence on societal values. Al-Yasiri stated that the app contributes to the "disintegration of the social fabric," while digital media experts have argued that TikTok remains a valuable tool for entrepreneurs, content creators, and a key source of income for thousands of young Iraqis in marketing and digital sales.
