Veteran journo: Actual dethroning of PMX needs greater momentum than July 26 ‘Turun Anwar' rally
Henceforth, if the opposition is serious about forcing PMX to step down, they need 'to act quickly and in a serial manner' for 'a hot iron will not become a keris if it is truck only once'.
'They (the opposition) need to continue to build momentum from the Turun Anwar campaign especially when Anwar himself has 'challenged' them to do so,' penned veteran journalist and blogger Datuk A. Kadir Jasin in his latest Facebook post.
'He recently stated that he would not prevent any gathering or criticism of his leadership, including demands for him to resign as long as they are made democratically whether through elections or a no-confidence motion in Parliament.
'Anwar will not fall nor step down because protests are not a legal channel that can topple or force a PM to resign.'
On this note, Kadir reiterated his observation that while the Turun Anwar rally alone is unlikely to dethrone PMX, a successful aftermath can rub off on MPs to vote him out.
'Only Parliament and the public vote can bring down a PM or he himself has committed a serious legal offence,' justified the former group editor-in-chief of mainstream New Straits Times.
'Not to mention Anwar who is famous for street protests since the days of the campus revolution in the 1970s. By default, he himself may even stage a counter Kekal Anwar (literally, 'Stay on Anwar') rally.'
Even if advances by the opposition and civil society movements through the Turun Anwar protests is capable of forcing the government to call an early general election, detractors must openly state who they have in mind as PMX's successor if their efforts are to be successful, according to Kadir.
'They must state their PM candidate authentically and firmly,' asserted the national journalism laureate objectively even though Madani backers tend to associate him as a loyalist to twice former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who is now an adviser of Perikatan Nasional (PN).
On a bigger picture, Kadir opined that the economic woes that are burdening man-on-the-street Malaysians are caused by PMX's over-reliance on technocrats and corporate figures 'who are detached from the general public'.
'They're an elite focused on profit and loss, taxes and revenue,' observed Kadir who started his journalistic stint with national news agency Bernama in 1969 prior to joining the Economic Desk in 1976.
'The issue of the common people suffering is not their problem. That's the problem of politicians. For them, if they succeed in creating strong economic fundamentals and obtaining recognition from international rating agencies, their job would have been done.
'Anwar, on the other hand, suffers from a 'handicap' because he is considered to not have sufficient basic economic education (PMX is a Malay literature graduate).
'In conclusion, whoever takes over the PM's reign, the key challenge is sustainable economic management accompanied by a more equitable distribution of wealth.' – July 28, 2025

Pas VP: Ahmad Fadhli's post does not reflect party's official stance
KOTA BARU: Pas vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah has clarified that a recent Facebook post by the party's information chief, Ahmad Fadhli Shaari, does not represent the party's official position. Mohd Amar said the statement made by Ahmad Fadhli, who is also the Pasir Mas member of parliament, should be viewed as a personal opinion rather than a directive or decision endorsed by the party. "As far as I know, he has deleted the posting. When someone deletes a statement, it shows that he acknowledges there may have been an error. "There is no need for him to issue a further apology as it was not a party directive, but rather an individual expression," he told reporters after launching the Kelantan State Welfare Day here today. Mohd Amar said the issue should not be blown out of proportion, as it had already been addressed. Ahmad Fadhli came under fire on social media after posting a controversial image regarding the conflict between Thailand and Cambodia. The illustration featured three animals — a goat and a sheep fighting over a banana, with a monkey acting as the judge. In his post, Ahmad Fadhli suggested that the goat and sheep would be better off resolving the conflict without the monkey as mediator. He also shared a news article on the ongoing tensions between Thailand and Cambodia. The post drew criticism from many quarters, including the Prime Minister's political secretary, Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, who on Tuesday urged Ahmad Fadhli to issue a public apology to the people of Thailand and Cambodia. Kamil described the statement as rash, disrespectful, and damaging to Malaysia's international reputation. "Malaysia will not, under any circumstances, condone rash and foolish behaviour that demonstrates a lack of respect for other nations, particularly our neighbours," he said. He added that such remarks were inappropriate and brought shame to the country.

Anwar relieved as Russia quake causes no major casualties
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed relief that no serious casualties or widespread damage were reported following the massive earthquake off Russia's far eastern coast. In a Facebook post, Anwar commended the swift action of early-warning systems and emergency responders who moved quickly to protect lives. He said, 'The massive earthquake off Russia's far eastern coast, among the strongest ever recorded, has been a cause for deep concern.' Anwar added, 'Like many, I watched the tsunami warnings across the Pacific with a heavy heart, knowing how much was at stake for communities from Kamchatka to Japan, Guam and beyond. My thoughts remain with all those who spent anxious hours waiting for news, and I hope the danger has passed for good.' The earthquake, which struck at 11:24 am local time (2324 GMT Tuesday), registered a magnitude of 8.8 according to the US Geological Survey (USGS), making it the strongest globally since Japan's Fukushima disaster in 2011. Russian authorities reported a slightly lower magnitude of 8.7. Tsunami warnings were issued across the Pacific, including in Japan, the United States, and Mexico, but were later lifted or downgraded. No major damage was reported hours after the quake. - Bernama

Bersatu Youth chief slams arrest of party members
Bersatu Youth chief Hilman Idham warned that the more people arrested over the Turun Anwar rally, 'the faster the government would fall'. PETALING JAYA : Bersatu Youth chief Hilman Idham has slammed the arrests of two more party members today, believed to be in connection with the Turun Anwar rally. This comes after Furqan Hakimi, who serves as the executive secretary of Bersatu Youth's Perak chapter, and party member Syafiq Aziz were arrested earlier today. Describing the arrests as unnecessary, Hilman said the police only needed to summon the duo if their statements were required. 'That would have been enough. At most, that would take two to three hours,' he said, addressing a crowd who gathered in front of the Dang Wangi police headquarters tonight in solidarity with those detained. Hilman also said that the more people arrested over the Turun Anwar rally, 'the faster the government would fall'. 'There might not be many of us now, tonight perhaps there are 100 of us here. Tomorrow, if you arrest more (people) – then 200 (people) will gather (in solidarity with those arrested), then 300,' he said, warning that the Madani government's days in Putrajaya were limited. Hilman urged supporters to gather outside the Dang Wangi police headquarters tomorrow, at 9.30am, in solidarity with the duo. Earlier today, Bersatu Youth information chief Harris Idaham Rashid said Furqan and Syafiq were believed to have been arrested over the July 26 rally. He said an application to extend their remand is expected to be made tomorrow morning. Harris had also said the magistrate earlier today rejected an application by police to extend the remand order of two others – Bersatu leader Badrul Hisham Shaharin and Sijangkang PAS Youth chief Ikhwan Syaffiq. Both were released at 5pm today. Badrul, better known as Chegubard, was arrested by police at his home yesterday evening. Badrul said today that from the time of his arrest until he was brought before a magistrate for the remand application, he was not questioned by police. 'This clearly proves that the regime's true intention was intimidation,' he said in a Facebook post.
