OVI checkpoint planned Thursday night

CHAMPION, Ohio (WKBN) — The Champion Police Department announced an OVI checkpoint is planned for Thursday night.
In a Facebook post, the department said an OVI checkpoint will take place on Mahoning Avenue in Champion Township from 6 to 10 p.m.
The checkpoint, funded by federal grants, aims to deter impaired driving.

60-year-old pedestrian killed in suspected DUI crash

BELLEVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit is working with the Belleville Police Department to investigate a suspected DUI crash last week that claimed the life of a pedestrian. According to a Belleville police spokesperson, the crash happened just before 8:30 p.m. on Friday, June 6, in the 1200 block of Centreville Avenue. Officers responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Police arrived at the scene to find a 60-year-old man lying on the roadway. He'd suffered serious injuries and was unconscious. The man was taken to the hospital, where he later died of his injuries. The victim's name was not released. The driver, a 61-year-old man, remained at the scene of the crash. He was driving a 1998 Chevrolet S-10. Police said the driver was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence but was later released from custody pending further investigation.
