Aghabullogue, Kilmurry, Canovee and Timoleague secure Cork SFL titles
St Finbarr's and Knocknagree took the laurels in Division 1 and 2 respectively on Friday night, while Aghabullogue and Bandon closed off the weekend in the Division 4 final in Ballymah on Sunday night.
Aghabullogue played with the aid of a strong wind in the opening half, and they made hay, building a 0-16 to 0-1 lead to bring into the interval. 0-10 of that tally came from two-pointers and despite Bandon landing two goals from Ben Donegan and Jack Calnan in the second half, they had left themselves too much of a mountain to climb as Aghabullogue won by 0-19 to 2-2. Evan O'Sullivan was the winning side's top scorer with 0-5, Luke Casey and Aaron O'Sullivan both kicked 0-4 while Colm Gillispie landed 0-2 from midfield. Aghabullogue will take on Bantry Blues in the opening round of the PIFC on 26 July, while Bandon will play Glanmire.
Dunmanway hosted the Division 5 final between Gabriel Rangers and Kilmurry on Sunday with Kilmurry, inspired by Ruadhán Ó Curraoin, recording an impressive 2-23 to 0-13 victory. The Galway man kicked 1-11, with 0-8 coming from two-pointers, Denis O'Mullane bagged the other major while James O'Mullane clipped 0-3. Mark Cronin fired 0-6 for Gabriel Rangers with James O'Regan and Keith O'Driscoll both kicking 0-3. Kilmurry will face St Vincent's in the IAFC in three weeks' time, while Gabriel Rangers will play Mitchelstown.

Kilmurry's neighbours, Canovee, annexed the Division 6 final with a 5-9 to 1-6 over St Nick's in Ovens on Thursday. Jack Kelleher led the way for the Muskerry men, kicking 1-5, Aidan Moynihan helped himself to 2-1 with James Moynihan and Conor Dodd raising the other green flags. Gavin Marshall scored the goal for Nick's while Lee Quilligan kicked 0-2. Canovee will play Urhan in their opening championship game while Nick's will face off against Ballydesmond.
Argideen Rangers secured the Division 7 title with a 1-12 to 1-8 win over Kilmacabea. Fergal Walsh kicked 1-2 for Argideen with his goal just after half time crucial in turning the tide in his side's favour. Darragh Walsh kicked 0-4 for Argideen and Sean Walsh popped up with 0-2 while Damien Gore was Kilmacabea's main threat with 1-2. The attention of both sides now turns to the Carbery Junior 'A' Football championship.
Finally, the Division 3 final between Clyda Rovers and Uibh Laoire will take place on July 18th.

GAA County Board condemn abusive championship fixture phone calls
Wexford GAA Secretary Aoife Parle has highlighted instances of abusive phone calls recently when championship fixture changes have been turned down. Parle, who is also secretary of the Wexford Competitions Control Committee (CCC), informed a meeting of the Wexford GAA Executive this week of the unwelcome developments. She also noted an increase in the number of requests for championship fixture changes, stating that it was simply not possible to grant them all, particularly with regard to final round group games and championship knock-out stages. Final round group games generally have to played on the same day and time in the interests of fairness. Just last week Wexford GAA took the unusual step of calling off all games on the weekend of Electric Picnic, which takes place at the end of August. The move came in for some criticism, particularly in light of Wexford GAA also calling a gap week for the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann which was held in the county earlier at his month (August 3-10). A County Board press release said: 'Unfortunately there have been some instances of people involved with teams making abusive phone calls when a match was not fixed to their liking. All (at the County Executive meeting) agreed this was unacceptable.' Meanwhile, Wexford GAA are at an advanced stage in their bid to purchase an 8.7 acre site beside their Halo Tiles Centre of Excellence outside Ferns with the site going 'sale agreed.' County Chairman John Kenny also told an Executive meeting during the week that Wexford GAA are down a number of GPOs, who have left their posts, and that a new structure was being put in place for the remainder of this year. Meanwhile, it was confirmed that the Geraldine O'Hanrahan's club (New Ross) had withdrawn from the 'Whizzy Internet' Intermediate 'A' Football Championship with the meeting told it was unfortunate and disappointing A discussion took place about the challenges faced by clubs in urban areas in general, and in New Ross in particular. It was decided that contact would be made with Geraldine O'Hanrahan's to see if the Wexford County Board could offer any advice or assistance.

GAA championship clash ordered to be replayed after scoreboard error
A club game in Cork is to be replayed due to a scoreboard error. Aghada and Kildorrery have to do it all again in Co-op SuperStores IAHC Group 3, with the replay pencilled in for Saturday, August 30 at Páirc Uí Rinn (6.30pm). There will be free entry for supporters. When the sides clashed in Caherlag in late July, a point in first half injury time for Aghada's William Leahy was wrongly attributed to Kildorrery and instead of Aghada trailing by 1-10 to 0-9 at the break, Kildorrery held a 1-11 to 0-8 lead. Aghada stormed back into the game in the second half and a Fionn O'Connor goal and a late Leahy point saw his side draw level before the final whistle. But Aghada were convinced they had won rather than taken a share of the spoils with the official score recorded as 1-22 to 2-19. A Cork County Board Control Committee meeting this week discussed the issue and it was decided to void the original result and for the sides to play again. Last year there was also a result voided due to a scoreboard error, when Kilbrittain's victory over Aghabullogue in the JBHC semi-final was scratched after an appeal and Aghabullogue won the replay.

Four counties meet with GPA over Munster Council decision to seed Kerry and Cork in provincial football championship
Resistance to Munster GAA's controversial decision to change the basis of seeding in the province's football championship has moved a step farther. A statement from the Gaelic Players Association (GPA) on Monday confirmed the four non-seeded counties – Clare, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford – held a meeting with the GPA last week. The statement added 'players from all four counties are deeply disappointed and concerned' by the decision which will see the province departure from the old seeding of the previous year's two provincial finalists. The panels are now seeking meetings with their respective county boards 'to ascertain the full circumstances around the vote taken' before 'evaluating potential next steps in response,' the statement read. READ MORE Munster delegates took the decision that the top two counties, judged by league standing, should be drawn in the semi-finals and kept apart on the basis that it would boost gate receipts by optimising provincial attendances between Kerry and Cork, the two most successful counties, who would have an enhanced chance of reaching the final. The decision was ratified for a three-year period beginning in 2026. It was immediately criticised by Clare GAA chairman Kieran Keating, who speaking on Clare FM said it was 'unjust and indefensible'. 'It's disappointing that it's been introduced now in this sort of short order based on positions in a league that's already finished before the decision has arrived at. 'That's rather unjust and indefensible, really. You know that there's certainly an injustice in that as we would see it anyway and I think as any right-minded person would see it.' Limerick manager Jimmy Lee, whose county delegates voted in favour of the change, was also critical of the move. 'It feels like a vote of no confidence in us. That's just the way we feel, the way I feel. To be fair about it, we feel disrespected,' Lee told Live 95. 'I don't want to put words in the rest of the management teams' or the players' mouths, but that's the feeling I get from it. We got to a Tailteann Cup final, we won a league final, you can argue we weren't far off Cork (in the Munster championship) when we had 15 on 15, and this is what the county board turn around and do.' Former Clare manager Colm Collins, a member of the Football Review Committee , went farther and called for the disbandment of the championship. 'The Munster Championship is a complete joke,' he said, 'in the sense that you've got a Division One team, probably the best Division One team, playing counties that are below them. 'Munster Council, in their profound wisdom, have decided to give Cork a leg up the ladder by seeding them. 'The point is that the Munster finals haven't been competitive, but they're not going to solve it by doing this. I wouldn't mind if there were two Division One teams in Munster and they were consistently doing well. 'I don't know how some of these delegates will go back and face their football squads after voting for this.'
