Wexford piper makes nationwide call for players to march in historic mass band during opening ceremony of Fleadh Cheoil

New Ross Standard Today at 22:00 As predictions suggest a crowd even bigger than last year's 600,000 people will to flock to the town next week for Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, pipers from around Ireland are tuning up for the prestigious opening ceremony with President, Michael D. Higgins, which is all part of the fun of performing and entertaining, according to the Irish Pipe Band Association's Chairman, Brian Mac Mahon, who's vast experience in drawing in a crowd has often found him playing before various world-rated dignitaries from presidents to pope. Upon the back of last year's success of having the pipe band perform as the inaugural act of the opening Fleadh ceremony, this year, along with the expected increase in visitor numbers, the mass band of pipers is too hoping to increase their presence along the Wexford quays, as they come together and play, some meeting for the first time, whilst marching from the Talbot Hotel, down to the Gig Rig at the end of Wexford Bridge.
