In a letter to the Kannada Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC), Kamal Haasan explained his stance, stating that apologies are reserved for mistakes, not misunderstandings, and therefore he would not retract his comments.
The decision to forego the Karnataka release is expected to cost 'Thug Life' and its makers, including Kamal Haasan and director
, an estimated Rs 12 to 15 crore as per a OneIndia report. Despite this financial setback, Kamal Haasan has found considerable support from fans and movie enthusiasts, with the hashtag "#IStandWithKamalHaasan" trending widely on social media.
Supporters argue that Kamal Haasan's statement was rooted in linguistic history and not intended as an insult to Kannada. Many shared that Tamil is considered one of the oldest living languages in the world and that languages like Kannada have historical and linguistic ties to Tamil. Some users shared excerpts from Tamil textbooks that support this view, that Kamal Haasan's comments were based on factual information.
One X user wrote, "What @ikamalhaasan said is 100% RIGHT. Tamil is the oldest living language in the world. Languages like Kannada & others have roots linked to Tamil — that's linguistic history, not offense. Truth doesn't need an apology. History doesn't need permission."
Another user's tweet reads, "Respecting Kannada sentiments is important, but Tamil's historical influence on Kannada is a fact, not an insult.

Kamal Haasan's intent was misunderstood; his refusal to apologize is principled, not arrogant. Let's foster dialogue, not division. #ThugLife #IstandWithKamalHaasan."
While acknowledging the importance of respecting Kannada sentiments, many fans and movie lovers have rallied behind Kamal Haasan, praising his integrity and commitment to his beliefs.
Despite the absence of a Karnataka release, 'Thug Life' is still expected to have a strong opening this weekend. The film, directed by Mani Ratnam also stars Silambarasan TR,
, Abhirami, Sanya Malhotra, and others.

Jubilant gets $600 mn boost from Goldman for Coca-Cola India stake buy

By Megawati Wijaya and PR Sanjai Goldman Sachs Asset Management has provided $600 million to partially fund the equity investment needed by Indian conglomerate Jubilant Bhartia Group for its purchase of a 40 per cent stake in The Coca-Cola Co.'s bottling unit in India, according to people familiar with the matter. Goldman Sachs Asset Management's hybrid fund financed this equity portion by subscribing to the convertible preference shares issued by the group, said the people, who asked not to be named discussing a private matter. The fund — which is part of the investment bank's private credit strategy — sits between traditional debt and equity, and is usually longer in tenure. Convertible preference shares is one of the many ways companies can raise capital to fund their operations and expansion. They can choose to do so because it enables them to avoid taking on debt, while limiting the potential dilution of selling additional common stock. Goldman Sachs and Jubilant Bhartia declined to comment. Coca-Cola in December announced that Jubilant Bhartia will acquire a minority stake in Hindustan Coca-Cola Holdings Pvt., the parent company of the soft drink maker's largest bottler in India called Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Pvt. The total acquisition cost is $1.5 billion, the people said. The pizza-to-pharmaceuticals conglomerate will fund the remaining $900 million required for the acquisition with $600 million of equity and $300 million in debt, the people added. Two subsidiaries of the group — Jubilant BevCo and Jubilant Beverages — recently issued rupee-denominated bonds totaling $658 million-equivalent to fund the deal, Bloomberg News reported. Jubilant Bhartia's purchase of a stake in the beverage giant joins a series of foreign firms looking to divest part of their shareholding in local arms. In December, the Indian unit of South Korea-based LG Electronics Inc. filed for an initial public offering, seeking to tap investors in the South Asian country's booming market. Earlier last year, British American Tobacco Plc raised $2 billion selling shares in its Indian partner.

Housefull 5 Day 1 India Box Office: Akshay Kumar fronted comedy nets a good Rs 22 crore on Friday; To make big gains over holiday weekend

Akshay Kumar fronted Housefull 5, directed by Tarun Mansukhani, has taken a good start at the Indian box office. Based on early estimates, the film's opening day collections are around Rs 22 crore net. This can be taken as a win for Akshay Kumar, who has been in search for a solid theatrical hit. Initially, advance bookings suggested the film might struggle to cross Rs 20 crore. But strong on-the-day bookings have pushed it past that mark with ease. Housefull 5 boasts a massive ensemble cast, including Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Jacqueline Fernandez, and Abhishek Bachchan. The comedy seems to have struck a chord, especially in mass pockets, where walk-in audiences have boosted its numbers. The Rs 22 crore opening is a promising sign, placing it among Akshay's biggest openers in a leading role. Only Mission Mangal, Sooryavanshi and Gold have registered better openings. The Day Wise Box Office Collections Of Housefull 5 Are As Under The opening day number of Housefull 5 proves that the Housefull franchise continues to have a loyal fanbase. With holidays ahead, Housefull 5 is poised for a strong showing. Advance bookings for Saturday and Sunday look robust, with estimates pointing to a weekend haul of around Rs 85 crore net. This would be very good for a comedy film in today's market. Slapstick comedy is difficult to hit the right notes and that's the reason we have such few comedies releasing these days. The initials of Housefull 5 show that there is an audience for unadulterated comedy ensembles and producers should be more fearless in staging such ensemble comedies. The movie's real test begins after the weekend. Ticket prices will drop on weekdays, and Housefull 5 needs to maintain steady collections to keep the momentum going. To emerge a hit, the film must aim for the Rs 200 crore net mark in India. The good news is that there is no Bollywood release until Sitaare Zameen Par and that means that the comic-caper will enjoy an open run. For Akshay Kumar, Housefull 5's opening is a ray of hope. After a string of underperformers, Housefull 5 could be his biggest post-pandemic grosser.
