Classic Rocker Riffs on Coldplay Jumbotron Scandal With His Own Band's Iconic Song
First, it was Spinal Tap. Now, REO Speedwagon's is taking on the Coldplay jumbotron scandal and running with it by quoting one of his band's own classic songs.
'Heard it from a friend who, heard it from a friend who, heard it from Coldplay you've been messin around…..,' the band's bassist posted on Facebook on July 18 along with three photos of the couple in question on the jumbotron, first in an embrace and then shirking in embarrassment once they realize their image is being broadcast throughout the stadium.

Hall's post features the lyrics from REO Speedwagon's 1980 top 5 hit 'Take It on the Run,' from the band's chart-topping ninth album, Hi Infidelity, replacing the original "heard it from another" lyric with "Coldplay."
The irony of pairing a variation of the song's lyrics, from an album with that title, with the Coldplay jumbotron scandal couple was not lost on Hall's fans. Some even adapted lyrics from other REO classics to the situation.
'And after caught on camera it was time for him to fly. He won't be ridin this storm out,' wrote one, referencing the band's 1973 hit, "Ridin' the Storm Out."
'he can't fight this feeling, but he's going to have to roll with the changes,' responded another, with a nod to the band's 1978 song "Roll With the Changes."
'Omg!!!! Please tell me I'm not the only one who just sang this? Out loud???' added another.
'And as he leaves with his bags, he turns to his wife and says, "Im Gonna Keep On Loving You!!!!' another fan added, referencing "Keep on Loving You," a No. 1 hit from Hi Infidelity. Others skipped the REO references and joked about Coldplay.
One posted a meme he 'stole from a friend' that read, 'Coldplay haven't released any singles for ages but they created two last night.'
'That guy ended up playing more money for his Coldplay tickets than any other individual in the history of the world,' added another.
The 'guy' in question has been identified as , the CEO of the software company Astronomer. He was caught on camera hugging a woman who appeared to be his co-worker, Kristin Cabot.

CEO of Astronomer Placed on Leave
Source: Ethan Miller / Getty The tech company Astronomer has been embroiled in a public relations crisis following a viral video from a Coldplay concert. CEO Andy Byron was captured on the stadium's 'kiss cam' embracing Kristin Cabot, the company's Head of HR. The footage, which quickly spread across social media, showed the two executives reacting awkwardly when they realized they were on the big screen, prompting a joke from Coldplay frontman Chris Martin about whether they were 'having an affair or just very shy.' The incident sparked widespread speculation about an alleged affair, particularly as both Byron and Cabot are reportedly married to other people. The backlash was swift, with social media users dubbing the event 'ColdplayGate' and inundating Byron's wife's social media with messages of sympathy, leading her to deactivate her accounts. Accusations of a 'toxic' work culture at Astronomer also surfaced from former employees. In response to the mounting pressure, Astronomer initially announced an internal investigation and placed Byron on leave. Co-founder and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy stepped in as interim CEO. Just a day later, the company confirmed that Andy Byron had tendered his resignation, which the board of directors accepted. Astronomer stated that their leaders are expected to uphold high standards of conduct and accountability, implying that Byron's actions did not meet this standard. The company also had to address fake apology statements circulating online attributed to Byron. The incident has significantly impacted Astronomer's public image, although the company maintains that its core product and work for customers remain unaffected. The 'Coldplay Canoodlers' incident has also inspired a viral web game, further cementing its place in internet meme culture. SEE ALSO CEO of Astronomer Placed on Leave was originally published on

US tech CEO in viral Coldplay concert video resigns
Astronomer CEO Andy Byron resigned after a viral video showed him and an alleged colleague embracing at a Coldplay concert. The incident led to relentless memes and sparked discussions about workplace relationships and accountability. Internet sleuths and social media amplified the controversy, with mascots even recreating the moment for laughs. The CEO of an American tech company resigned Saturday after a video of him embracing an alleged colleague at a Coldplay concert went viral and fueled relentless memes. 'Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met,' New York-based Astronomer said in a statement shared on LinkedIn. 'Andy Byron has tendered his resignation,' the firm said, after previously launching an investigation. During a Coldplay concert in Foxborough, Massachusetts, on Wednesday, the jumbotron zoomed in on a man and a woman embracing in the stands. But the canoodling pair appeared shocked and horrified when they spotted themselves on the big screen, with the man ducking out of frame and the woman hiding her face. 'Uh-oh, what? Either they're having an affair or they're just very shy,' joked Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. Within hours, internet sleuths tracked down the man as Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and said the woman was the company's chief people officer, Kristin Cabot, alleging that the two were having a not-so-discreet affair. The video has garnered millions of views on TikTok and other social media, giving rise to memes discussing everything from the folly of having an affair at a Coldplay concert to the hypocrisy of an HR representative seemingly caught in a workplace relationship. 'The craziest thing about the Astronomer CEO cheating scandal is that it was the HR lady,' said one X user. 'The person who would warn you against fraternising with coworkers.' Furry mascots of the Philadelphia Phillies Major League Baseball team jumped on the trend and recreated the scene for the jumbotron at a game after the video went viral. However, an apology statement attributed to Byron, which spread rapidly online, was fake and appeared to have originated from a parody account.
