Leader Live7 hours ago

Here, the PA news agency looks at the Portugal international and former Real Madrid and Manchester United star's record of 938 goals to date for club and country.
– Ronaldo has the most goals in men's international football with 138. He passed Iran's Ali Daei's previous record of 108 in June 2021.
– His 221 caps are also a record number, going past Bader Al Mutawa's 196 for Kuwait in March 2023.
– Ronaldo, Lionel Messi (112) and Daei are the only men with a century of international goals, while Ronaldo alone has reached 200 caps.
– Minnows Luxembourg are his favourite opponent, with 11 goals.
– Ronaldo is Real Madrid's record goalscorer with 450, almost 100 clear of second-placed Karim Benzema (354).
– He scored those goals in just 438 appearances, giving him a ratio better than a goal per game and an average of exactly 50 in each of his nine seasons. He scored 61 in all competitions in 2014-15 and just one fewer in 2011-12.
– Another 145 goals came across his two spells with Manchester United, 118 in his first after joining from Sporting Lisbon in 2003 and 27 after returning in 2021.
– Ronaldo's most prolific United season came in 2007-08, winning the Premier League Golden Boot with 31 goals and scoring 42 in all competitions.
– He holds the records for most goals and appearances in the UEFA Champions League, 141 goals in 187 games. He, Messi and Robert Lewandowski are the only players with 100-plus goals in the competition.
– Ronaldo is the only player to score in three Champions League finals, and also holds records of 17 goals in a season (2013-14) and scoring in 11 successive appearances.
– He netted five goals in all competitions for his first club Sporting Lisbon and 101 in three seasons with Juventus. His last goal of last season was his 800th in club football and his first of the new campaign will be his 100th for Al Nassr.
– Ronaldo has won a record five UEFA Champions League titles, four with Real after winning his first with United in 2008.
– He has won the Ballon d'Or, awarded to the world's best player, five times – a total exceeded only by Argentina star Messi's eight. Ronaldo was awarded a special award for outstanding career achievement at the 2021 FIFA Best Awards.
– His 26 major honours also include seven domestic league titles, three in England with United and two each in Spain and Italy. With Portugal, he won Euro 2016 as well as two Nations League titles.
– Ronaldo has won the European Golden Shoe on four occasions and was top scorer at Euro 2020. The 40-year-old's 938 career goals have come in 1,281 senior appearances, with Portugal age-group and Olympic games excluded.

Pep Guardiola hails Man City after impressive win over Juventus

Erling Haaland scored his 300th career goal and Rodri played 66 minutes on his first start since September as City moved through the gears at Orlando's Camping World Stadium on Thursday. City defied intense heat and a later torrential downpour to sweep aside a Juventus team that beat them 2-0 in the Champions League last season. A simply outstanding display! 🩵 🦓 2-5 🩵 #FIFACWC — Manchester City (@ManCity) June 26, 2025 Guardiola's team looked more like the all-conquering outfit they have been for much of the Spaniard's reign rather than the ponderous side that laboured through much of the 2024-25 campaign. The statement victory ensured they won Group G with a 100 per cent record and theoretically secured a more favourable route through a tournament they must now be among the favourites to win. City manager Guardiola said: 'I liked the way we did it. It has been a long time since we had a performance like this on and off the ball. The players were committed and we are happy to beat a top side. 'This is just one game but I think the players felt again what it was like to be a good team. It's the first time we've performed the way we can. 'We won the last two but we adjusted a few things. I'm really pleased because the players realise what we have to do to get back to what we were in the last decade. 'The belief always comes from your performances, not your past.' The loss of Rodri with a serious knee injury for the majority of last season was one of the key reasons for their failure to match the standards of the past. After winning the Premier League for the previous four years, City failed to mount a strong title defence and exited the Champions League before the last 16. His appearance in Orlando represented a notable step up in his comeback after three substitute outings. Guardiola said: 'Sooner or later Rodri had to start. I said, 'OK, 45 minutes' but at half-time he said he wanted five to 10 minutes more. The game was under control. 'In the last few games we have conceded a lot of transitions but it didn't happen this time. Everyone knows how important Rodri is. He is one of the best players in the world.' City's early opener from Jeremy Doku was cancelled out by Teun Koopmeiners after an Ederson error but a Pierre Kalulu own goal restored the English side's lead. Revealed: Cristiano Ronaldo's new '£492MILLION Al-Nassr contract which includes £25m signing bonus, 16 full-time staff, £4m for private jet use and 15% stake in Saudi club'

Cristiano Ronaldo 's new two-year Al-Nassr contract is the most lucrative in sporting history, according to a report, and is worth a basic £492million over the duration of the deal. The Portuguese has reportedly been handed a bumper pay rise to remain with the Saudi Pro League outfit he joined in December 2022 after leaving Manchester United. The new terms, which will take him past his 42nd birthday, reportedly include an eye-watering basic salary of £488,000-a-day. A report in the Sun states that the forward's contract is the most lucrative in sporting history and on top of the staggering compensation, it includes the perk of becoming a 'dream ambassador' for the Gulf State which could take his income to more than £500m over the next two years. Additionally, he is reportedly pocketing a signing bonus of £24.5m which increases to £38m if he triggers the second year of his contract. The outlet also claim that he has been given a 15 per cent ownership stake in the club worth £33m. In all, if bonuses for claiming for golden boot and winning the Saudi Pro League are received, Ronaldo will be more than half a billion pounds richer at the end of his deal. Confirmation of the former United and Real Madrid star's new deal came on Thursday following months of speculation that he could depart the club this summer. Last month, the Portuguese sparked rumours that he could leave the Riyadh-based outfit when he posted a cryptic social media message, which began with the words 'this chapter is over'. The post came at the end of another trophyless season at the club he joined from Manchester United in December 2022 and helped fuel bizarre rumours, further fanned by FIFA, that he could make a switch to a side competing in the Club World Cup . However, following Portugal's Nations League win, the 40-year-old revealed that he would be returning to Al-Nassr for this coming season. On Thursday, the striker and the club confirmed the decision, with Ronaldo posting on X: 'A new chapter begins. Same passion, same dream. Let's make history together.' Ronaldo scored 35 goals in 41 matches in all competitions last term and was the Saudi Pro League's top scorer for the second season running. In all, he has netted 99 times in 111 appearances for Al-Nassr and is inching closer to his dream of reaching 1,000 senior career goals. His current tally stands at 938. In addition to the ludicrous sums involved in Ronaldo's deal, the Sun also claim that Ronaldo and his family will have 16 people working full-time - three drivers, four housekeepers, two chefs, three gardeners and four security people - who will be paid for by Al-Nassr at a cost of around £1.4m. Furthermore, there is £4m for use of a private jet, as well as the promise of sponsorship deals with Saudi companies which could reach £60m. The report quotes a source as saying the club were 'very worried' the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, considered to be the 'face of the league' was headed for the exit. News of Ronaldo's deal comes a day after it was announced that head coach Stefano Pioli will leave the club. Pioli becomes the fourth coach to depart the Saudi Pro League side since Ronaldo joined them in 2023. He follows Rudi Garcia, Dinko Jelicic and Luís Castro in having headed for the exit door since Ronaldo's arrival in January 2023.
