The 6 biggest changes coming to ChatGPT
Here's a rundown of all of the changes you can expect to see in ChatGPT.
With the rollout of GPT-5, OpenAI is getting rid of the model picker and retiring many of its older models, including GPT-4o, GPT-4.1, and GPT-4.5. ChatGPT now runs on GPT-5 by default, and has a 'single auto-switching system' that combines its previous models into a 'faster, smarter model,' theoretically eliminating the need to swap between models for different purposes.
However, ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Team users can still use a model picker that allows them to switch between GPT-5 or GPT-5 Thinking. Pro and Team users will also get access to GPT-Thinking Pro.
One of the biggest updates coming to ChatGPT is the ability to select from four new 'personalities' for text-based responses. Here's how OpenAI describes each of them:
Cynic: Sarcastic and dry, delivers blunt help with wit. Often teases, but provides direct, practical answers when it matters.
Robot: Precise, efficient, and emotionless, delivering direct answers without extra words.
Listener: Warm and laid-back, reflecting your thoughts back with calm clarity and light wit.
Nerd: Playful and curious, explaining concepts clearly while celebrating knowledge and discovery.
These new personalities sound like they might be fun to play around with. But if you're not a fan, you can always switch back to ChatGPT's 'default' style.
Vibe coding, or the process of having AI generate code based on natural language prompts, just got an upgrade on ChatGPT. OpenAI says GPT-5 is even better at processing complex and descriptive prompts when asking it to create an app or website. You can then see — and interact — with a preview of what the AI chatbot has built by opening Canvas.
OpenAI is rolling out new ways to customize ChatGPT's interface. With this update, you can set an accent color that will change the appearance of your conversation bubbles, voice button, and highlighted text.
To do this on the web, click your profile icon, select Settings > General. From there, select an option from within the Accent color drop-down. You can do the same thing on mobile by tapping your profile picture, heading to Personalization, and tapping Color Scheme.
ChatGPT's advanced voice mode, which allows for more natural-sounding spoken conversations, is getting an update for paid users that will make it better at understanding instructions, as well as allow subscribers to tweak its speaking style.
OpenAI also announced that it's retiring standard voice mode, but it's offering 'near-unlimited' use of advanced voice mode for paid users, and bringing 'hours' of extra usage to free users in exchange. Advanced voice mode now works with custom GPTs, too.
Lastly, OpenAI is making it easier to link your Gmail account and Google Calendar to ChatGPT. As explained in a demo, ChatGPT will now ask you to connect your Gmail or Calendar when you enter a prompt, such as 'help me plan my schedule tomorrow.' Once you link your account, ChatGPT will draw from your schedule and your emails to plan out your day, notify you about missed emails, and more.
The ability to connect these accounts is coming to Pro users next week, 'with other tiers coming next.'

Ethereum Cracks $4,000 for First Time in 8 Months
Ethereum's price touched $4,000 per coin on Friday for the first time since last December on a number of top exchanges, as transactions on the blockchain surged amid a more favorable environment for the asset and wider crypto markets. The second biggest digital coin in existence was recently trading just below that level, according to crypto data provider CoinGecko, after jumping 4% over a 24-hour period. It hit the $4,000 mark at about 9 a.m. New York time on America's biggest crypto exchange Coinbase. The gains far outplaced Bitcoin, the largest cryptocurrency by market value, which was up just a few ticks of a percentage point from Thursday, same time, to trade at about $116,600. But it fell short of XRP's 7.6% gains. Solana and other major altcoins were more modestly in the green. The coin is still 18% below its all-time high of $4,878 that it hit in 2021. But over a 30-day period, the coin has rallied by over 50% over a 30-day period as Ethereum treasuries have mushroomed. Peter Thiel-backed Bitcoin miner BitMine Immersion and marketing firm SharpLink Gaming have accumulated $2.9 billion and $1.9 billion of ETH respectively since embarking on this strategy and are intent on adding more to their holdings. These Ethereum treasuries are following a model pioneered by Strategy—formerly MicroStrategy—which shifted from software development to buying Bitcoin in 2020 after years of struggling and low share prices. Strategy now holds 628,791 BTC worth over $72 billion. Ethereum Treasury SharpLink Adds $265 Million in ETH to Holdings Trading activity on the Ethereum network has also risen amid increased staking as investors have grown more upbeat about its potential uses but also from recent regulatory decisions that have been favorable to the crypto industry. A Myriad Linea Markets table showed that 76% of participants believed that Ethereum transactions would exceed 12 million for the week-long period ending August 10. Meanwhile, U.S. investors piled into ETH exchange-traded funds. Those funds have generated more than $9.3 billion in net inflows since their debut last year, according to U.K. asset manager Farside Investors.

Millennials Are Bypassing Gen X To Succeed Boomers As CEOs Thanks To AI
New research finds that millennials' comfort level with artificial intelligence is helping them leapfrog Gen X in succeeding baby boomer CEOs. New Russell 3000 data shows Gen X-aged CEOs in their 50s now make up 43.4% of the total, down from 51.1% in 2017, Fortune reports. Baby boomers aged 60+ have risen from 35.1% to 41.5%, while millennial CEOs in their 30s and 40s have grown from 13.8% to 15.1% over the past eight years, according to the Conference Board and Esgauge. While Gen X still holds the largest share of CEO positions, research indicates that they're losing ground with baby boomers CEOs, who appear to be bypassing the next generation in favor of younger leaders. Experts credit this shift to the rise of AI in the workplace, with millennials bringing the digital expertise needed to guide the growing number of companies embracing advanced technology in their business strategies. Millennials are leading the charge in adapting to advanced tech in the workplace. Data shows about 50% of millennials use generative AI at work, compared to 34% of Gen X and just 19% of baby boomers. Millennials are also more optimistic about their potential, with 55% viewing AI-driven solutions positively, compared to 37% of Gen X and 36% of boomers. While many boomer CEOs are hesitant to adopt AI personally, they recognize it as the future and understand it will take adaptable leadership to guide companies forward. As a result, they're increasingly choosing younger millennials over Gen X counterparts to take their place in the C-suite. Millennials strike a balance due to their industry experience, having grown up with the internet, and a forward-thinking approach to AI in business. Gen Z is still too early in their careers, while Gen X tends to be more hesitant about the technology. Another factor has labeled Gen X professionals as the 'forgotten generation,' with boomers favoring millennial successors due to workplace ageism and the belief that Gen Xers are nearing retirement. About 22% of employees aged 40 and older report being overlooked for challenging assignments, while 16% have seen a pattern of younger staffers being promoted over them. Billion-dollar companies are paving the way, with giants like Red Lobster, Lime, and Kickstarter all naming millennials as CEOs in recent years. As older boomer leaders step down, millennials are poised to take the helm and guide the workforce into the future. RELATED CONTENT:
