Civil court in Hyderabad awards Rs 10 lakh compensation to kin of road accident victim
Hyderabad: The city civil court, under the motor accident claims, has awarded a compensation of 10.3 lakh with 9% interest to the family of T Yadagiri, who lost his life in a road accident. According to the family, on Nov 6, 2019, Yadagiri (55), was travelling with his wife on a motorcycle near Nidigonda village in Jangaon district when a TGSRTC bus, driven by M Nagesh, allegedly entered the wrong lane at a high speed and hit the two-wheeler head-on. While Yadagiri died on the spot, his wife sustained injuries. An FIR was registered at Ragunathapalli police station, and a chargesheet was later filed against the bus driver. The compensation petition was filed by Yadagiri's wife, Laxmi Bai, his son Jampu (who later passed away during proceedings), and his minor granddaughter, Jasmitha. The court, however, recognised only the wife and granddaughter as dependents and examined evidence including, the FIR, chargesheet, inquest, and postmortem reports. In assessing compensation, the court fixed Yadagiri's income at the minimum wage for a light motor driver, 9,516 per month, adding 10% towards future prospects. By applying the legal multiplier, the court calculated the family's loss of dependency at 9.21 lakh. Additionally, compensation was awarded under various heads: 80,000 towards consortium, 15,000 for loss of estate, and 15,000 for funeral expenses. The court ordered TGSRTC and the driver to pay the compensation jointly. It further ordered that the deceased's wife can withdraw 3 lakh, while the granddaughter's share will remain in a fixed deposit until she attains the age of 18. 4 Maoists with 19L reward surrender in Gariaband
Raipur: Four Maoists including a divisional committee member (DVCM) and those serving as protection team members for a central committee commander, surrendered before Gariaband police in Chhattisgarh on Sunday. Three of the surrendered cadres had joined the outfit as minors and are presently in their twenties. The divisional committee member Deepak alias Bhima Mandavi carried Rs 8 lakh bounty on his head, police said. According to Gariaband SP Nikhil Rakhecha, Bhima had joined the banned outfit at the age of 14 years in 2008 in Sukma district of Bastar division. He was associated with the cultural wing of the organizations, called Chetna Natya Mandli (CNM) that serves as influencing the villagers via entertainment and spreading the Maoist propaganda. He soon became Kistaram area committee commander in 2010 and further grew in ranks from Bastar to Gariaband district. Recently, in April this year, Bhima was promoted as DVCM. He was involved in 20-25 violent incidents in Dhamtari and Gariaband forests. His colleague in the same team was woman cadre Ranita who carried Rs 5 lakh bounty and was inducted in the Maoist ranks in 2016 by senior commanders at the age of 16 in Bijapur district. From Gariaband to Kalahandi in Odisha, she was also part of ambushes laid against security forces and fought in encounters too. Another woman cadre Sujata who carried Rs 1 lakh bounty had joined in 2023 for sentry duty. Police officials said the four cadres admitted they were disillusioned with the Maoist organisation due to its partiality by senior cadres from Andhra Pradesh with the tribal Maoists of Bastar, forced recruitment of children, harassment of villagers, destruction of development works and extortion from contractors. They stated that senior Maoists also used villagers as bonded labour and forced youngsters to join under threats. The surrendered ultras will be rehabilitated under the Chhattisgarh government's Surrender and Rehabilitation Policy, which provides financial support, housing, health care and livelihood assistance.
