
Aberdeen University plans to open new campus in India
The University of Aberdeen is planning to open a campus in India, it has announced.The institution has been granted permission by the Indian government to take forward proposals in Mumbai.A business case will go before the university's governing court for consideration next month.The University of Strathclyde's Business School previously had an operation in India, but no longer has a presence.
The new venture would initially offer courses in subjects including computing and data science, AI, business, and economics. The target launch date for the plans is September next year.
Prof Siladitya Bhattacharya, vice-principal of global engagement at the university, said India had long been a "priority area" for its strategy.This includes student recruitment and research opportunities.He added: "We are looking forward to collaborating with our Indian partners to bring this vision to life and further bolster ties between Scotland and India through education and research".Aberdeen is currently one of a number of Scottish universities looking at ways of tackling financial pressures.

June 16 (Reuters) - Japan's SoftBank Group Corp (9984.T), opens new tab is looking to raise nearly $4.9 billion in an unregistered overnight block sale of T-Mobile (TMUS.O), opens new tab shares, Bloomberg News reported on Monday. SoftBank is offering to sell 21.5 million shares for $224 to $228 each, Bloomberg said, citing the deal terms. Bank of America Corp is working on the deal. The sale represents a discount of more than 3% to T-Mobile's closing price of $230.99 on Monday, and the stake offered would represent about 1.9% of T-Mobile's outstanding shares, Reuters calculations showed. SoftBank and T-Mobile did not immediately respond to Reuters' requests for comment. In May, the Japanese technology investment group reported a 1.15 trillion yen ($7.94 billion) profit for the year ended March, compared with a loss of 227.6 billion yen a year earlier. Moat Brae: Part of Dumfries Peter Pan mansion to reopen as café
A part of the Dumfries mansion which helped to inspire JM Barrie to write Peter Pan hopes to reopen by mid-July - nearly a year after it centre for children's literature at Moat Brae shut in August last year after liquidators were appointed at the trust which ran was sold to a property developer in March this year and a new operator is to take over its café.Curtis Silver said he hoped to open its doors later this summer, employing a small number of staff initially. Barrie used to play in the grounds of the property - which was built in 1823 - while he was growing up in went through a number of different uses before it opened as a literature centre in 2019 after a multimillion pound fundraising shut due to the Covid pandemic and subsequently struggled in the face of rising costs, falling funding support and lower visitor numbers than prompted the decision to close its doors in August 2024. The property was put up for sale after liquidators were appointed at the Peter Pan Moat Brae was sold to a property developer about three months ago and work is ongoing to bring it back into Silver, who is originally from Eastbourne, said he was taking over one part of the property."The old building, the Moat Brae building, is going to be offices," he said."The extension - where the café is - is what I am taking over."I saw this opportunity and I am now moving here to put all of my energy and passion into it."The new venture will be called Pans Café and will offer "high quality" brunches and takeaways which he hopes will tap into the office market around the said one room in the property could be set aside to celebrate the origins of the Peter Pan story but that plan was yet to be finalised.
