Todd Davis returns to Broncos as a defensive quality control coach
One day after parting ways with a linebacker-turned-coach, the Denver Broncos are hiring another former linebacker as a coach.
The Broncos are hiring Todd Davis as a defensive quality control coach, Zac Stevens of DNVR Sports first reported on Thursday. Davis, who has worked for DNVR as a commentator since 2023, was one of Denver's coaching interns at training camp last summer.
Davis, 32, is now leaving DNVR for a full-time DQC position on Sean Payton's staff, working under defensive coordinator Vance Joseph. Davis spent time playing under Payton with the New Orleans Saints in 2014 before later landing with the Broncos.
Davis spent six years in Denver, totaling 467 tackles, 13 pass breakups, 11 quarterback hits, two sacks, two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble and one interception returned 20 yards for a touchdown. He was a special teams player and rotational linebacker when the team won Super Bowl 50 following the 2015 season.
Davis spent time with the Minnesota Vikings (2020) and New York Giants (2021) at the end of his career before hanging up his cleats. He now returns to the Broncos, this time as a coach.

Former Colorado Buffaloes receiver Will Sheppard attended mandatory minicamp on a tryout basis on Tuesday, according to a report from the Denver Post's Luca Evans. He totaled 48 receptions for 621 yards and six touchdowns in 2024, ending his five-year college career with 200 catches for 2,688 yards and 27 touchdowns in 55 games. Dobbins is on the move. It's been a wild ride for Dobbins in his short NFL career. After being selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft, the former Buckeye star had a respectable rookie season, rushing for over 800 yards and putting down the foundation of what looked like a promising and productive career. That's when things took a turn. Dobbins suffered a torn ACL in a preseason game prior to the start of the 2021-2022 season and missed the entire year. He rehabbed but again suffered knee problems the following year, only to come back and tear his ACL during the 2023-2024 season. Dobbins signed a new contract with the Los Angeles Chargers prior to the 2024-2025 season and had what could only be described as a bounce-back year, having his most productive campaign of his career by rushing for 905 yards and nine touchdowns. Dobbins also had some yards as a receiver, putting him over 1,000 yards from scrimmage. Now, after all of that rehab and resiliency, Dobbins will be joining the Denver Broncos on a reportedly one-year, $5.25 million deal. The base salary of the contract is $2.75 million, but many incentives are available to push him over $5 million. This is great news for Dobbins. When healthy, he's shown that he can be a difference maker in the backfield, and the Broncos are banking on exactly that. Hopefully, he has a season where he's on the field as much as possible, and that translates into a long-term deal. Former Badgers star garnering interest from the defending NBA champions
When it comes to the Wisconsin Badgers over the last decade, the most memorable team is easily the 2014-15 group that went 36-4 and made it to the National Championship Game, ultimately falling short to the Duke Blue Devils. That team had quite a few talented players, with four making it to the NBA: Sam Dekker, Frank Kaminsky, Duje Dukan, and Nigel Hayes-Davis. Kaminsky was a lottery pick to the Charlotte Hornets, while Dekker went No. 18 overall to the Houston Rockets. Both Dukan and Hayes-Davis ended up going undrafted, but secured NBA contracts. Unfortunately, all four players are out of the NBA now, as the Badgers don't have much of a presence in the league anymore. Johnny Davis was the latest to get drafted, going No. 10 overall to the Washington Wizards in the 2022 NBA Draft. But, he struggled in three seasons with the team, earning very limited minutes before being traded to the Memphis Grizzlies this past season. Davis was later waived and signed with the New York Knicks G-League team in March. Currently, Micah Potter is the lone former Badger in the NBA. After going undrafted in 2021 and spending time in the G-League with the Detroit Pistons and the Utah Jazz, he had his best season yet for the latter squad, playing in 38 games in 2024. However, Potter could be joined soon by another former Badger as Nigel Hayes-Davis has been picking up some traction from his time at Fenerbahce. Davis had a stellar season, averaging a career-high 18.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.7 assists, while leading his team to their second EuroLeague Championship last month. Hayes-Davis caught the eyes of Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzula, who, according to EuroHoops, made the trek out to see him play in the playoffs last month. At 30 years old, Hayes-Davis could be a low-cost option for the Celtics off the bench, as the forward has developed his shooting (41 percent from three this season), while stacking together several strong seasons overseas. If he's given the opportunity, Hayes-Davis could be the second Badger to join the NBA ranks this summer, as star wing John Tonje is also currently projected to be drafted later this month.
