HTS takes on Hoogenhout
The teams were ready to give it their all and show off their skills, strength, and teamwork during a clash between schools in eMalahleni and Bethal.
On May 24, the teams took to the field, and the action began. The U14 teams started things off with the 14A team losing to Hoërskool Hoogenhout 21-35 and the 14B team losing 5-55. The U15 teams had mixed results, with the 15A team winning 8-3 and the 15B team 18-10. The U16 teams were close, with the 16A team winning 22-21 and the 16B team losing 14-21. The second, third, and first teams also played, with the third team winning 16-5, the second team winning 18-12, and the first team losing 12-14.
'Thank you to Hoogenhout for a day full of healthy competition. I am one of the proud coaches of an excellent third team that is currently undefeated this season. The third team boasts 11 wins so far. I can only say thank you to each of my boys who give their best in every game,' said Willie Botha, HTS third team coach.
The Hoërskool Hoogenhout coach wasn't available for comment, despite several requests.
Hoogenhout fought a good battle for the victory. Its players showed the power of dedication and hard work. The hard work paid off.
HTS gave the games all they could, and their hard work did work for the best, too.
The matches showed off the players' dedication and love for rugby. It was clear that both teams gave it their all. The results might not have been perfect for HTS, but the players' spirit and determination were truly impressive. With the league still going strong, the teams will need to keep pushing themselves to come out on top. Their coach appreciated their efforts.

Mount Edgecombe resident aims to make a splash for charity
MOUNT Edgecombe resident and triathlete Glen Gore is taking on the Oceans 8 Charity Swim at Vetch's Beach, Durban, this weekend. Since its launch two years ago, the event has raised over R1.7m, directly benefiting 23 charities working in education, environmental conservation, and community upliftment. It's for this reason that Gore has decided to take on the 4 Mile swim fundraiser. 'This will be the second event overall. I did my first Oceans 8 swim last year and it was such good fun so I decided to come back again. I love swimming and if I can combine swimming and charitable work, it's a win in my books,' he said. 'Generally I train all year round so there was no specific preparation in terms of training for this one. It is fairly simple for me, wake up, go swim as fast as possible and have fun. The distance is very manageable, it's the speed at which we do it that makes it interesting,' he said. After the open water swim, there will be a number of other events on Gore's calendar, including the KZN Duathlon Champs at the end of June, followed by several run and cycle events. With the Oceans 8 Charity Swim event taking place over two days this weekend (June 14 and June 15), participants can find a mile to suit their style, with distances from 1, 4, 8 and 16-mile swims on offer. Giving with a kind heart
During the uncertain times of Covid-19, a dream was born – a vision of giving, kindness, and hope. That dream belonged to Lindiwe Johnson, affectionately known as 'Mam J' among her circles. It began as a simple call for donations and transformed into a movement of compassion. On Saturday, May 31, in the early hours of the chilly Highveld morning, that dream saw its second edition come to life. Braving the cold, Mam J and her dedicated team set off for Coronation, an informal settlement in KwaGuqa. Their mission was to bring warmth and comfort to those in need. Preparation for this outreach effort had begun the previous year, as she rallied support from her church, family, and privileged community members, requesting donations of clothing, shoes, and other essentials. The moment of distribution was one of overwhelming emotion. Faces of the young and old lit up with joy, and the gratitude was undeniable. 'Siyabonga' – meaning 'Thank you' – rang through the air, repeated thousands of times by those receiving the much-needed donations. The energy was profound, the appreciation immeasurable. For Mam J, the success of this initiative was not hers alone. With humility, she expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who made the event possible. 'I would like to thank God Almighty for the strength, wisdom, and insight given, Pastor and Lady Pastor Mabena, and the entire congregation of Bethel Ministries Outreach Centre based in Tasbet Park. To the team that assisted on the day, my family and friends, and local business owners Collen Ncongwane and Thabiso Mogane – your kindness and support made this day unforgettable,' said Mam J with tears in her eyes, telling the community that she will be back before winter is over.
