Trump: ‘It's possible' US becomes involved in Israel-Iran conflict
President Trump said 'it's possible' the United States becomes involved in the current conflict between Iran and Israel, ABC News reported Sunday. 'We're not involved in it. It's possible we could get involved. But we are not at this moment involved,' Trump told ABC News. ABC News also reported that Trump expressed interest in the possibility of mediation in the Iran-Israel conflict by Russian President Vladimir Putin. 'I would be open to it. [Putin] is ready. He called me about it. We had a long talk about it. We talked about this more than his situation. This is something I believe is going to get resolved,' Trump said, per ABC News. On Thursday overnight, Israel bombarded Iran, moving forward with its largest-ever military operation against its common Middle East rival and upending a push from President Trump for a nuclear deal with Iran. The U.S. attempted to quickly distance itself from the strikes that killed some of Iran's top military leaders. However, Trump administration officials were reportedly briefed on plans prior to the strikes. 'Tonight, Israel took unilateral action against Iran. We are not involved in strikes against Iran and our top priority is protecting American forces in the region,' Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a statement on Thursday evening. 'Israel advised us that they believe this action was necessary for its self-defense. President Trump and the Administration have taken all necessary steps to protect our forces and remain in close contact with our regional partners,' he added. The Hill has reached out to the White House for further comment.

Pence says Minnesota shooting ‘must be universally condemned'
Former Vice President Mike Pence said the fatal shooting of state Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman (D) and her husband over the weekend 'must be universally condemned' and that there is 'no antidote for law and order.' 'There is no antidote for law and order, for making it very clear that there will be no tolerance in this country for political violence, whatever its motivation,' he said during an appearance on 'The Hill Sunday.' 'And I believe instances such as this must be universally condemned.' Pence's condemnation comes as officials continue their manhunt for the suspect in the shooting of Hortman (D) and her husband on Saturday, Vance Boelter. The 57-year-old is also suspected of shooting and wounding state Sen. John Hoffman (D) and his wife. A $50,000 award is being offered for information leading to Boelter's arrest and conviction. Host Chris Stirewalt asked Pence how the U.S. can 'break out of this cycle that seems to be afflicting us year after year,' to which the Indiana Republican replied, 'Swift and certain law enforcement.' 'Look, I know there's always a temptation for people to look at trends,' he added, noting an incident in 2017 when then-House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) and others were shot during a congressional baseball practice. Pence said he denounced shifting any blame at the time, mentioning that the shooter, James T. Hodgkinson, supported Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and volunteered for the Vermont senator's presidential campaign. Immediately after the revelation, Sanders criticized Hodgkinson's actions, calling the shooting 'a despicable act.' 'Now, as we live in a time when we've seen two assassination attempts on President Trump during his campaign, when we've seen an attack on the home of the governor of Pennsylvania, attack on Jewish protesters, I honestly think the answer here is to see that these people are prosecuted swiftly and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,' Pence said.

Klobuchar says her security has increased without her request after Minnesota shooting
Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) said her security was increased without her request following the fatal shooting of Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman (D) and her husband over the weekend. During an interview on NBC's 'Meet The Press,' host Kristen Welker asked if Klobuchar knew whether she was on the list of targets, which included 'prominent pro-choice individuals in Minnesota,' an official who has seen the list told The Hill's sister network NewsNation. Klobuchar responded that, although she does not have confirmation as to whether she was included on the list, her security was increased without her request. 'So I just know that they have added security without my request. So I think they're concerned about everyone. I don't have confirmation of that,' she said. Klobuchar also called the shooter, 57-year-old Vance Boelter, 'a murderous, murderous man.' 'He will know no limits, whether you're on the list, whether you're not,' she said. 'He may change what he's focused on, and that's what we're most concerned about right now is that the next person not a political person, but a person he just encounters?' Klobuchar noted that Boelter, who escaped during a shootout with police at the house of state Sen. John Hoffman (D) and his wife after shooting and wounding them, may still be in the Midwest area, noting officials also put out an alert for South Dakota. Despite the shooting, Klobuchar said she is not concerned about her personal safety, saying she and other lawmakers have received threats before. 'I believe that our local law enforcement and the capitol police and the like will protect us,' she said.
