People urged to encourage organ donation
Speaking at the 'Jeevandan AP' event at GSL Medical College on International Organ Donation Day, he noted that while India ranks third globally in transplants, it is at 68th position in donations. The minister urged the public to overcome social stigma and encourage organ donation.
The minister shared promising statistics for Andhra Pradesh, where a single donor's organs can save up to eight lives. In 2023, there were 41 donors and 126 transplants, which increased to 66 donors and 210 transplants in 2024. In the first seven months of 2025 alone, 54 donations have already resulted in 174 transplants. The event, which included a walkathon and a flash mob, honoured the families of organ donors.
Following the awareness programme, Minister Yadav inaugurated seven new Advanced Integrated Modular Operation Theatres at GSL Medical College, built with a Rs 35 crore investment by GSL Institutions.
According to Managing Director Dr Ganni Sandeep, these state-of-the-art facilities are equipped for complex surgeries, including organ transplants, and will reduce the need for patients to travel to other cities. The new theatres, which bring the total to 20, also feature high-speed connectivity for live telecasts of surgeries for medical education globally. Anaparthi MLA Nallamilli Ramakrishna Reddy, MLC Somu Veerraju participated.
A powerful public awareness event for organ donation was organised by 'Jeevandan AP', captivating the city with a rally and a flash mob. Dr Ganni Bhaskara Rao, Chairman of GSL Medical Institutions, delivered a moving speech, comparing organ donation to a family legacy of compassion.
The event began with a Walkathon from the Government Hospital, featuring students and staff from GSL, Delta, and KIMS hospitals. Participants held placards as they marched to Kambala Park junction, where a dynamic flash mob dance and a 'face paint' exhibition drew a large crowd. Dr Ramaraju of KIMS Hospital and Dr K Rambabu of Jeevandan AP stressed the critical need for organ donation.

CM Yogi opens ICU project at PGI
Lucknow: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday inaugurated the SBI Foundation ICU Project at the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS). The project, under the Saloni Heart Centre, focuses on treating congenital heart diseases in children. On the occasion, the SBI Foundation announced support of Rs 10 crore to equip the centre with advanced technology and resources. ‘SBI committed to improving India's healthcare ecosystem'
Lucknow: Deputy managing director and chief general manager (Lucknow circle) of State Bank of India, Satyendra Kumar Singh and Dipak Kumar De, presented a check for Rs 9.98 crore to chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday for the establishment of a pediatric cardiac operating theatre and intensive care unit in Saloni Heart Centre at SGPGIMS under corporate social responsibility (CSR). The cheque was presented on behalf of SBI foundation, the CSR arm of the bank. The facility will enable life-saving surgeries for approximately 300 children annually, alongside the training of over 200 healthcare professionals, including surgeons, anesthetists, nurses, perfusionists, and technologists. The CM appreciated the bank for its contribution to strengthening the healthcare infrastructure of Uttar Pradesh. A new building with 110 beds at Saidapet GH
Adding more health infrastructure for Chennai, the Health department has constructed a new building with a bed strength of 110 at the Government Hospital, Saidapet, which is over a century old. Stating that the building will be brought to use shortly, Health Minister Ma. Subramanian, said the GH was nearly 120 years old, and the new six-storey building has come up at a total cost of Rs. 28.70 crore. Residents of not only Saidapet but also Madipakkam, Ullagaram-Puzhuthivakkam, Pallikaranai, Jalladianpettai, Sholinganallur and Akkarai have been seeking medical care at the Saidapet GH, he told reporters after an inspection on Monday. The new facility spanning 68,290 square feet area has paved the way for major improvements for the Saidapet GH, he said. While the ground floor will have the vehicle parking spaces, the outpatient units, immunisation unit, pharmacy and scan rooms will be on the first floor. The second floor will comprise the labour wards, pre and post natal wards, emergency wards and nurses stations. On the third floor, an integrated laboratory is being set up at a cost of Rs. one crore, and there will be units for ENT and paediatrics alongside. The fourth floor will accommodate a 15-bed paediatrics ward, 14-bed general medicine ward and 12-bed postnatal ward. The fifth floor will have the general medicine ward with 43 beds, while the sixth floor will have three operation theatres and pre-operative wards, he said. Three years ago, 14 dialysis machines were installed at the Saidapet GH by the Rotary Club, the Minister said, adding that patients from various parts of the city were undergoing dialysis at the hospital. He said that they have sought another 11 new dialysis machines from the Rotary Club. When the building is inaugurated, a total of 25 dialysis machines will be in place. In addition, Rotary Club has also come forward to set up a blood bank at a cost of Rs. one crore. Mr. Subramanian said that construction work on the building was completed. The Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation has supplied the required equipment, and installation will be completed in a week. The Deputy Chief Minister will inaugurate the building. NAMAKKAL INCIDENT To a question that illegal liver donation and transplant has allegedly taken place in Pallipalayam, Namakkal, Mr. Subramanian said that a complaint has been lodged with the police to take action on two brokers. 'As per the inquiry committee report, we have recommended police action on whoever is involved, even if any hospital was involved,' he said.
