
Umm Al Emarat Park makes Ramadan nights unforgettable for families

SARA ALZAABI (ABU DHABI)Umm Al Emarat Park, a community hub in the heart of Abu Dhabi, has come to life with a series of events as part of "Ramadan Nights at the Park", an initiative that seeks to foster togetherness during the Holy Month.Reflecting the ethos of the Year of Community, the month-long festival focuses on strengthening bonds, enriching cultures, social impact, and environmental awareness. Overall, it aims to create a more memorable experience for the community."In Ramadan 2025, Umm Al Emarat Park has introduced several new initiatives that further enhance the community experience, making this year's edition more immersive and impactful than ever," said Rasha Kablawi, Group Communications Director at Sinyar Holding, the official spokesperson for Umm Al Emarat Park. Encapsulating the spirit of Ramadan, the festival features the iftar cannon tradition, which signals the end of the day's fast. The Emirates Red Crescent then distributes "Kisr Al-Siyam" iftar boxes to those in need.The park's Ramadan Garden offers a picturesque backdrop for visitors to enjoy iftar and suhoor. The stunning venue is open for iftar from 6.30pm to 8.30pm and for suhoor from 10pm to 1am.During the weekend, Umm Al Emarat Park bustles with the Ramadan Pop-up Market, held on Fridays and Saturdays from 8pm to 1am at the Great Lawn – Park Market Area, featuring local vendors and food stalls.Plenty of Ramadan-themed activities are in store for children, from Hakawati (storytelling) to lantern-making workshops, among others.A curated Ramadan Picnic Basket - packed with sandwiches, dates, snacks, and juices - completes the unforgettable experience.Furthermore, the park hosts fitness and well-being sessions, such as yoga, meditation, sound healing and mindfulness at the Evening Garden.
"Each of these initiatives aligns with the UAE's Year of Community, reinforcing the park's role as a hub for cultural, social, and wellness-driven experiences during Ramadan," Kablawi told Aletihad . She highlighted the park's collaborative initiatives with the Emirates Red Crescent and partnerships with the Tadweer Group on their "Naqa'a" Ramadan campaign, which connects the core values of the Holy Month with sustainability. Student artists bring Abu Dhabi culture to life at Mawhibaty exhibition
25 May 2025 23:13 SARA ALZAABI (ABU DHABI)More than 240 students from across Abu Dhabi are proudly showcasing their artworks at this year's Mawhibaty exhibition, which opened on May 22 and runs through June by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), the exhibition features over 500 captivating pieces that explore a diverse range of themes-from everyday moments to the rich heritage of UAE culture - all expressed through the fresh perspectives of young artists. Some students poured their creativity into paintings, while others crafted intricate models and structures. Traditional calligraphy finds its place alongside contemporary graphic design, highlighting a wide spectrum of artistic in its eighth edition, the Mawhibaty talent development programme continues to nurture emerging artistic talent, supporting DCT Abu Dhabi's mission to establish the emirate as a leading hub for cultural and artistic Kamel, a Grade 11 student at Dalma school, described the programme as a turning point in her artistic journey. "The programme taught me punctuality, teamwork, and helped me explore Emirati heritage and how to reflect it in a modern artistic style," she told chose to paint the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, explaining: "It's the largest mosque by area, and I used acrylics with white tape to separate the colours for more precision."Ola Ghassan, a 12th-grade student at Al Mawaheb School, spent up to two months creating her sustainable art entry for the programme: a model of Qasr Al Hosn made from recycled materials. "We used cardboard from our studio and mixed sand with acrylic to create texture," she by their teacher and equipped with studio tools, Ghassan shared how the experience helped her grow artistically: "I used to draw with pencil only, now I work with acrylic and have created six paintings."Salem El Adawi, a Grade 4 student at Al Danna School, is another eco-artist. He drew a traditional Emirati gate using tissue paper. With a clear determination to grow, he said, "I want to continue improving until I become the best." Year-round TrainingNoora Al Hosani, an eighth-grader at Dalma School, used oil paint for the first time, but the finished work was incredible - a detailed painting of a falcon, a symbol of Emirati strength and identity. "I learnt patience through the programme. Art takes days, not hours," Al Hosani said. Under the Mawhibaty programme, students receive training at leading cultural centres throughout the year. These include sites like Bait Al Oud, Al Qattara Arts Centre, and the Art Studio. Some even go on overseas trips, like Al Hosani, who went to Vienna. This experience, she said, helped shape her artistic vision for the falcon painting. Maram Hamad, a Grade 7 student at Al Bahya Common School, presented a rose inside a glass bell, symbolising beauty and programme, she said, helped her shift from pencil to oil painting and gave her confidence. "I used to copy my sisters, then suddenly surpassed them," she told Aletihad. "Now, they call me an artist."Sama Abdulbari, a Grade 8 student at Al Dhanna Schools, has participated in the programme since 2019, refining her craft every year. "Each year, I improved in drawing, colouring, shading, and artistic thinking," she said. "We use the language of art to translate and express our ideas." A Celebration of CultureMany of the artworks at the exhibition are inspired by the vibrant cultural landscape of Abu Dhabi, proving that the emirate continues to be a rich source of creativity for its emerging artists. Omar Al Ghanem, a Grade 6 student at Al Falah Academy, explored his passion for Arabic calligraphy through abstract Thuluth script compositions. As he presented his work at the exhibition, Al Ghanem expressed his gratitude. "Without this programme, I wouldn't have reached this artistic level," he said. Abdelrahman Nasser, a fifth-grader at Al Dhanna School, drew inspiration from Abu Dhabi's seascape to produce his artwork "Fingerprint of Love". Through the Mawhibaty programme, he said, he learnt how to express his thoughts through Wael, another Grade 5 student from Al Dhanna School, celebrated the UAE's maritime heritage in his work and designed a traditional boat using natural materials. "I created a boat from paper and sand to showcase the UAE's heritage," he said. "I'm proud to be part of Mawhibaty and always excited to develop my skills."Zayed Al Hossani, who is in Grade 2 at Dalma School, painted a tribute to Dalma's cultural life, inspired by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Hossani was moved by His Highness' steadfast support for traditional boat races in Dalma. "I used fabric, palm fibre, and wood to reflect the spirit of Dalma's sea and heritage," he said. For these young artists, the Mawhibaty programme has been a powerful motivator to continue pursuing their passion and keep getting better year after year. They encourage more students to take part in the initiative. "The support and flexibility truly help you grow as an artist," said Hamad.

His winning piece draws inspiration from the traditional metal gates of UAE neighborhoods, symbolising both community and the importance of eco-conscious design, the TotalEnergies Sustainability Design Award 2024 was awarded to Tasneem Albaiti and Alreem Alameri from Zayed University for their innovative project Graphic Design's Contribution to Environmental Sustainability Through Leaf Waste-Derived Paper in the UAE. Their research explores sustainable alternatives to traditional paper production, focusing on the use of ghaf and palm leaves as eco-friendly substitutes for wood pulp, aiming to reduce environmental impact. In the field of craftsmanship and cultural heritage, the ADMAF Jewelry Design Award in partnership with L'ÉCOLE Middle East School of Jewelry Arts supported by Van Cleef & Arpels celebrated Shamma Al Hammadi from the University of Sharjah for her jewelry design Al Dana wa Al Khawasa, which draws inspiration from Emirati culture, incorporating the tradition of pearl diving while merging storytelling with exquisite artisanal jewelry technique.

Through diverse programmes and activities, the Park enriched the lives of visitors by offering a welcoming space for relaxation, connection, and wellbeing. Children were encouraged to explore and nurture their curiosity through nature-inspired play areas and interactive installations. These elegant partnerships reflect Umm Al Emarat Park's unique appeal as a vibrant, nature-filled space where global luxury brands can engage meaningfully with diverse part of its ongoing efforts to promote community wellbeing, Umm Al Emarat Park partnered with Celestial Karisma to host a series of wellness sessions designed to promote mindfulness and relaxation in nature. Held at the Park's Evening and Botanical Gardens, the programme featured calming Sound Healing sessions and peaceful Mindful Morning gatherings. These sessions also offered free community events that marked key occasions including Pink October and International Women's Day, creating meaningful moments of reflection and connection and reinforcing Park's role as a sanctuary for rejuvenation and community a champion of sustainable living, Umm Al Emarat Park's embrace of the UAE Environment Vision 2030 saw a season-long commitment to conservation and education. The Park hosted six sustainability workshops, helping to educate visitors about the impact of their actions and encouraging a positive environmental partnership with Tadweer Group, the Park collected 6,411 aluminum cans and plastic bottles through on-site Reverse Vending Machines. The collaboration with A1R to Water led to the installation of five atmospheric water generation machines across iconic park locations, producing over 11,000 litres of water – preventing the use of 22,014 single-use plastic bottles and 1.81 tonnes of carbon Day was marked with gardening workshops and awareness activities that engaged over 50 visitors, while educational programmes and guided tours raised awareness around the importance of conservation. The Park's Animal Barn welcomed new residents, including the Arabian Oryx, and conducted over 250,000 activities designed to foster empathy and curiosity while connecting children gently with its commitment to sustainability and creative expression, the Park, through a collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation, also hosted the Datecrete Bee Hotel, the winning artwork of the 2024 Christo and Jeanne-Claude Award. Crafted from eco-friendly material made of date pits and free from traditional concrete, the installation was designed to attract solitary bees and encourage ecological line with the UAE's core values of openness, respect and peaceful coexistence, Umm Al Emarat Park inaugurated the 'Gardens of Tolerance' and celebrated cultural diversity through a series of events representing various nationalities. The Park hosted community gatherings showcasing Korean, Japanese, Chinese and Ukrainian cultures, featuring music, food and traditional activities to encourage cross-cultural 3,000 attendees experienced the Ramadan Iftar Garden, an open-air communal iftar under the stars, accompanied by traditional oud performances. The Iftar Cannon ceremony at the Park's main entrance served as a symbolic focal point for communal gatherings during Ramadan, further promoting unity and reflection. The Park also held 13 traditional Emirati workshops led by 26 Emirati seniors and artisans, helping to preserve and promote the rich cultural heritage of the UAE. Falconry shows, an important Emirati tradition, were performed 163 times, further deepening cultural appreciation among visitors.
