UTT Season 6: Reeth Rishya, Anirban Ghosh Star in PBG Pune Jaguars Comeback 9-6 Win Over Rivals U Mumba TT
Staged under the aegis of the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) and promoted by Niraj Bajaj and Vita Dani, UTT continues to grow as a premier professional league. All 23 ties, over 16 action-packed days, will take place at Ahmedabad's EKA Arena, according to a release from UTT.
International stars Lilian Bardet and Bernadette Szocs kicked things off positively for U Mumba with wins in their respective matches, helping their team into an early 4-2 lead.
Bardet took little time to secure an 11-1 victory in Game 1 of the first match against UTT favourite Alvaro Robles, before dominating Game 2 with an 11-4 win. However, Robles crucially pulled one back for PBG Pune Jaguars, keeping them within touching distance of their opponents in a league where every game counts.
Meanwhile, Szocs extended her perfect head-to-head record across all competitions against Season 6 debutant Dina Meshref, staging a dramatic comeback by saving three match points in Game 2 before going on to win the match 2-1.
But the momentum shifted dramatically when Anirban stepped up for Pune. First, he partnered with Meshref to win a nervy mixed doubles battle 2-1, clinching it with the Golden Point. Then, he edged Akash Pal 2-1 in a gritty singles contest to level the tie at 6-6. In the decider, the experienced Reeth dominated against Swastika Ghosh 3-0, sealing a memorable 9-6 win for Pune.
Reeth was named Indian Player of the Tie, while Szocs earned Foreign Player of the Tie. Akash took home the Shot of the Tie prize.
Earlier at the Dream UTT Juniors--a joint initiative by UTT and Dream Sports Foundation--Dempo Goa Challengers edged Stanley's Chennai Lions 5-4, powered by a flawless 3-0 win from Sahil Rawat and a crucial mixed doubles win. In the second tie, Jaipur Patriots sealed a 6-3 victory over Ahmedabad SG Pipers, with Shreya Dhar starring in both singles and doubles alongside Trishal Surapureddy.

But at the same time the reward has been very high," recalled Vicuna, who had guided Mohun Bagan to their second I-League title in 2019-2020. "We are not only growing every season, we are learning every season about how to manage, how to play and how to challenge… We are going step by step and at the same time enjoying every step," the Spaniard maintained. "We are the only team to have played against three ISL teams in the Durand Cup. We are now in the semifinals. But we don't want to stay here. We want more in the competition." Manas Bhattacharya, renowned midfielder of the 80s, has been associated with Project DHFC since the first day, serving the club as its CEO. "We are here to stay," he said. Kolkata: In this season of more fractious and perplexing moments in Indian football, East Bengal FC and Diamond Harbour FC embody a unique contest in the Durand Cup semifinals here on Wednesday. If days of being judged inferior to the arch-rivals have been settled, Oscar Bruzon is now ready to call it "the end of suffering" for his 'new' East Bengal. Diamond Harbour FC (DHFC) — a new kid on the block — are also showing that they are here to stay. In fact, the team under Kibu Vicuna has already achieved an unprecedented high that even Mohun Bagan and East Bengal couldn't reach — securing a semifinal berth in their Durand Cup debut. This, certainly, is the brave new world for the newbies. And this is precisely what's stopping Bruzon from taking the suggestion for granted that this contest is a mere step in his team's coronation as the Durand Cup champions. DHFC may be a newcomer, in Vicuna they have a shrewd coach with ample experience in Indian football. Vicuna, who guided Bagan to their second I-League title in 2019-20, described his new team's progress to the semifinals in Asia's oldest cup football tournament as "thoroughly deserving". Aware that East Bengal have transformed significantly under Bruzon, Vicuna insisted that the Beautiful Game is littered with stories where the best teams do not necessarily end up having the last laugh. He then recalled his time in Poland as an assistant coach at Lech Poznan in 2015-2016 and how the team had orchestrated an upset in the Europa League. "We are a good team. If we were not, we wouldn't be sitting here talking with you all," Vicuna told reporters on Tuesday. "I remember the European Cup match when I was working in Poznan. Fiorentina were in the first position in Italy and we were last in the Polish league. And we ended up winning 2-1 in Fiorentina. In a football game, two teams are playing, not only one," Vicuna said, sending a warning to East Bengal. The onus is more on East Bengal as, post the derby win, Bruzon's side now faces the task of proving that this group is not only on a journey of self-improvement but is equally capable of reaching its destination and delivering on its promise.

New Delhi [India], August 20 (ANI): Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has criticised the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for announcing the Indian squad for the Asia Cup Cricket 2025, which includes a clash against Pakistan, despite the neighbouring country withdrawing from the upcoming Hockey Asia Cup hosted in to her official X handle, Chaturvedi expressed her disapproval, saying,'While Pakistan Hockey team snubbed the Asia Cup Hockey matches hosted in India, our BCCI is super keen to keep the cricket match between the two going by announcing the India Team for Asia Cricket Cup. Can't imagine the betrayal the families of those who lost their loved ones in Pahalgam must feel." While Pakistan pulled out of the Hockey Asia Cup citing security concerns, the BCCI proceeded with finalising India's squad for the cricket tournament, which could see the arch-rivals face each other.'Why isn't Pakistan coming? Why are they not participating? This is not clear to us," Hockey India Secretary General and Asian Hockey Federation Vice President Bhola Nath Singh said.'If they are citing security concerns, I can confidently say that security and all the arrangements in India are much better than in Pakistan," he however, stressed that India's focus remains on successfully hosting the tournament and extending a warm welcome to all participating teams.'Who is coming and who is not coming, we don't care about that.
