Comelec eyes donation of 8,000 Starlink units used in Eleksyon 2025 to public schools
Around 8,000 units of satellite network Starlink that were used during the recently concluded midterm elections are expected to be donated to public schools nationwide, Commission on Elections (Comelec) chairman George Garcia said Wednesday.
Garcia said that the iOne Resources, Inc., the distributor tapped for the transmission of the election results, will be the one to donate the Starlink devices, but the Comelec will help them facilitate.
To recall, the Comelec earlier distributed thousands of Starlink units in areas with limited connectivity for the conduct of the 2025 national and local elections.
'Lahat po 'yun ay isosoli sa kanila. Pero ngayon kino-kolekta dahil nga baka mawala, nasa mga bubong kasi ng mga paaralan…Kahapon pinag-usapan namin na tuloy na tuloy naman ang kanilang donation kung saka-sakali,' the poll chairman said in a Kapihan sa Manila Bay forum.
(All of those units are expected to be returned. They are currently being collected because they were placed on the roofs of schools. But yesterday, we talked with iOne and it seems that they will push through with the donation.)
'Sabi namin, okay naman na ma-donate talaga sa DepEd. Kami very supportive kami. 'Konti lang naman ang Comelec, madami po kaming lugar na walang signal, baka pwedeng ma-donate din lalo na 'yung sa mga municipal board of canvassers sa mga munisipyo sa mga lugar na walang signal, mga GIDA sites,'' he added.

Comelec 1st Division lifts proclamation suspension vs Isabela vice mayoral bet
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) First Division has lifted the suspension of the proclamation of lawyer Jeryll Harold Respicio, who won the vice-mayoralty race in the town of Reina Mercedes, Isabela, in Eleksyon 2025. According to a decision dated June 2, the poll body division ordered the reconvening of the municipal board of canvassers within five days for the proclamation of Respicio. 'After due deliberation and in consonance with the thrust of the Government to deliver basic and vital services but without prejudice to the resolution of this matter on the merits, the Order of the Commission (First Division) dated May 12, 2025, insofar as the Respondent Jeryll Harold Paz Respicio is concerned, is hereby lifted, effective immediately,' the ruling reads. 'The Municipal Board of Canvassers of Reina Mercedes, Province of Isabela, are directed to reconvene within five days from the receipt of this order for the purpose of proceeding with the proclamation of Respondent as the winning candidate for the position of Vice Mayor in the Municipality of Reina Mercedes, Province of Isabela,' it added. It can be recalled the Comelec en banc has ordered the suspension of proclamation of 19 candidates for Eleksyon 2025, including Respicio, pending the resolution of the charges they are facing with the poll body. In February, the poll body, through Task Force Katotohanan, Katapatan at Katarungan (KKK) sa Halalan, filed cybercrime charges against Respicio over a series of social media videos allegedly claiming he can manipulate the results of Eleksyon 2025. A disqualification case was also lodged against him. Comelec affirms disqualification of Cagayan governor Mamba in 2022 polls
With just one month remaining before the terms of current local leaders expire, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has affirmed that Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba was disqualified from running in the 2022 elections and allowed Vice Governor Melvin Vargas Jr. to take his place. The poll body, sitting en banc, stood by the decision of its First Division in April 2024 to disqualify Mamba after he, along with Mabel Mamba and Francisco Mamba, who were candidates for governor, vice governor, and 3rd district representative of Cagayan province, respectively, provided financial aid, scholarship grants, and various transport vehicles to the constituents of Cagayan province using public funds during the 45-day spending ban. The First Division dismissed the petition filed by Victorio Casuay against Mabel Mamba and Francisco Mamba for being moot, as they failed to win their election bids. However, it granted the disqualification case against Mamba after he was found in violation of Section 261 (v) of the Omnibus Election Code and Comelec Resolution No. 10747, which prohibits the release, disbursement, or expenditure of public funds for any and all kinds of public works from March 25 to May 8, 2022. Acting on Mamba's appeal, the Comelec en banc said Mamba's duty as governor ''does not grant him unrestrained discretion in the exercise of his powers.'' ''Public officials, regardless of their position, are bound to act within the confines of the law and are subject to the limitations and restrictions imposed by applicable statutes and regulations. The mere desire to fulfill one's duties does not justify actions taken in violation of legal mandates," the resolution said. VP Sara: Reconciling with Marcos not a priority
Vice President Sara Duterte said she is not prioritizing talks of reconciliation with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., saying the welfare of the public matters more than "personal issues."
