VP Sara: Reconciling with Marcos not a priority

GMA Network2 days ago

Vice President Sara Duterte said she is not prioritizing talks of reconciliation with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., saying the welfare of the public matters more than "personal issues."
'Unang-una, hindi muna siguro ako magsalita about reconciliation dahil hindi naman mahalaga siguro ang mga personal na problema... Ang mas mahalaga is 'yong taumbayan at iyong bayan natin,' she told reporters during an ambush interview at The Hague.
(First of all, I don't think I should speak about reconciliation for now because personal problems are not important. What's more important is the people and our country.)
VP Sara's comment comes days after Marcos disclosed that he is open to reconciling with the Dutertes.
''Oo, ako, ayoko ng gulo. Gusto ko magkasundo sa lahat ng tao. Mas maganda. Marami na kong kaaway, hindi ko kailangan ng kaaway, kailangan ko kaibigan,'' Marcos said in an interview with broadcaster Anthony Taberna.
(I don't want trouble. I want to get along with everyone. It's better. I already have many enemies, I don't need enemies, I need friends.)

Dad wants to take oath
VP Sara was in the Netherlands to visit her father, former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, who is detained at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague due to crimes against humanity charges.
She said she was able to see her father for an hour on Friday and that they talked about Eleksyon 2025.
'Na-share ko... na nanalo iyong dalawang PDP Laban na senator candidates, tapos iyong isang guest candidate - si (Rodante) Marcoleta, plus dalawang guest candidates from Alyansa, si Senator Camille Villar at Senator Imee Marcos.'
(I shared that two PDP Laban senator candidates won, along with guest candidate Rodante Marcoleta and two guest candidates from Alyansa – Senators Camille Villar and Imee Marcos.)
She also mentioned that her father wants to take his oath after winning the mayoral race in Davao.
'I want... Set me free and I will take an oath,' Sara said quoting, her father.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) earlier said it will ask the ICC to allow the former President to take oath as Davao City mayor while he is in detention in The Hague.
SWS survey
Duterte also addressed the recent Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey in which 88% of respondents said it was important for her to face the impeachment proceedings and answer the allegations.
'Oh, I totally agree. Kasama ako doon sa 88% na iyan... thankful sa opportunity na malinis iyong pangalan ko at masagot iyong mga akusasyon sa akin,' she said.
(I totally agree. I'm part of that 88%... I'm thankful for the opportunity to clear my name and respond to the accusations against me.)
The Vice President also said that the Senate's decision to move the presentation of the articles of impeachment hearings to June 11 has no effect on her.
'Wala naman siyang epekto sa akin... Iiwan na namin iyan sa mga lawyers namin, sa defense impeachment lawyers,' explained Duterte.
(It has no effect on me... we'll leave that to our lawyers, the defense impeachment lawyers.)
Imee
The Vice President, meanwhile, also mentioned that Senator Imee Marcos, who is also currently at The Hague, was not permitted to visit her father.
'Hindi siya pinayagan ng ICC na makabisita at makausap si dating Pangulong Rodrigoe, she said.
(I mentioned that she was not allowed by the ICC to visit and speak with former President Duterte.)
Sara said her father was hoping to speak with Senator Marcos, but he is hopeful that there will be "another time."
'Unang-una, nagpasalamat siya. At pangalawa, sabi niya gusto nga daw niya sanang makausap si Senator Imee kaso hindi nga daw payagan pero sabi niya, 'There will be another time for that.''
(He was thankful. He wanted to talk to Senator Imee but wasn't allowed. He said, 'There will be another time for that.) —VAL, GMA Integrated News

Marcos to NIA: Listen to farmers' needs

President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. has tasked the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) to listen to the concerns of farmers and use wisely the farm machinery being provided by the government. ''Kaya po ang hiling ko sa lahat ng kawani ng NIA, ingatan, alagaan, at gamitin ninyo ang mga sasakyan at pasilidad nang wasto,'' Marcos said in his speech Monday. (My request to NIA employees is to take care and use properly the vehicles and facilities.) ''Saksi ako sa inyong sipag [sa] paglilingkod sa ating mga magsasaka. Ngunit, hiling ko sa inyo na paigtingin pa ang inyong pagsisilbi. Makinig sa kanilang mga hinaing,'' he added. (I'm a witness in your hard work when it comes to serving our farmers. I'm requesting that you strengthen your service. Listen to their needs.) Marcos told NIA to immediately address the needs of local farmers. The President led the ceremonial turnover of 229 newly procured operations and maintenance equipment and vehicles under the third tranche of the NIA's Re-fleeting Program at Barangay Wawa in Taguig City. This program supports the President's directive to fast-track irrigation project development as part of broader efforts to strengthen the agriculture sector. As the country faces the effects of climate change and extreme weather conditions, including the El Niño phenomenon, the enhanced fleet enables NIA to respond more effectively to the growing demands of irrigation service delivery. The said agency currently manages 257 National Irrigation Systems and 8,802 Communal Irrigation Systems. The NIA is responsible for the repair, operation and maintenance of major canals and irrigation infrastructure. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News

Comelec 1st Division lifts proclamation suspension vs Isabela vice mayoral bet

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) First Division has lifted the suspension of the proclamation of lawyer Jeryll Harold Respicio, who won the vice-mayoralty race in the town of Reina Mercedes, Isabela, in Eleksyon 2025. According to a decision dated June 2, the poll body division ordered the reconvening of the municipal board of canvassers within five days for the proclamation of Respicio. 'After due deliberation and in consonance with the thrust of the Government to deliver basic and vital services but without prejudice to the resolution of this matter on the merits, the Order of the Commission (First Division) dated May 12, 2025, insofar as the Respondent Jeryll Harold Paz Respicio is concerned, is hereby lifted, effective immediately,' the ruling reads. 'The Municipal Board of Canvassers of Reina Mercedes, Province of Isabela, are directed to reconvene within five days from the receipt of this order for the purpose of proceeding with the proclamation of Respondent as the winning candidate for the position of Vice Mayor in the Municipality of Reina Mercedes, Province of Isabela,' it added. It can be recalled the Comelec en banc has ordered the suspension of proclamation of 19 candidates for Eleksyon 2025, including Respicio, pending the resolution of the charges they are facing with the poll body. In February, the poll body, through Task Force Katotohanan, Katapatan at Katarungan (KKK) sa Halalan, filed cybercrime charges against Respicio over a series of social media videos allegedly claiming he can manipulate the results of Eleksyon 2025. A disqualification case was also lodged against him. Respicio, for his part, filed a petition before the Supreme Court, questioning the Comelec's move to suspend his proclamation. —AOL, GMA Integrated News

Imee: Just accept that VP Sara impeachment has already failed

Reelected Senator Imee Marcos said that the bid to remove Vice President Sara Duterte via impeachment has already failed, amid the postponement of proceedings in the Senate. The reading at the Senate of the articles of impeachment by the House of Representatives prosecution panel against Duterte was initially scheduled for June 2, but was moved to June 11 with the 19th Congress set to adjourn sine die on June 14, with Senate President Francis 'Chiz' Escudero citing the need to prioritize the passage of items in the administration's legislative agenda. 'Para sa akin, 'yan ang importante, makatulong sa tao at tigilan na ang pangunguna ng pampulitikang impeachment na 'yan,' Marcos said in Mav Gonzales's report on GMA's '24 Oras Weekend' on Sunday. 'Pero sa kabilang inuurong nang inuurong 'yung impeachment?...Tanggapin niyo na, talo na ang impeachment. 'Yun lang 'yun. Kahit ngayon, kahit sa Hulyo pa, talo na,' she added. (For me, that is what is important, to help people and stop prioritizing this political impeachment. On the other hand, why is the impeachment being moved again and again? Just accept that the impeachment has lost. That is it. Whether now or in July, it has already lost.) Another Duterte ally, incoming Senator Rodante Marcoleta also said that the trial will not succeed in unseating her. 'Lintik lang ang walang ganti. Humanda sila. Ayaw niyong tumigil, kurbahan natin,' he said in the same report. 'They would not be able to remove the Vice President. Itaga mo sa bato 'yan, itaga niyo sa bato 'yan, walang mangyayari. The Vice President will stay as Vice President,' he added. (There will be revenge. The should prepare themselves. If you don't want to stop, let us curve them. They would not be able to remove the Vice President. Set that in stone, nothing will happen. The Vice President will stay as Vice President.) Marcos and Marcoleta will both be senator-judges at the impeachment trial. 'Forthwith' For his part, outgoing Senate Minority leader Aquilino 'Koko' Pimentel III said he is dismayed with the change in the Senate calendar. 'Nung February 2025, nagpalabas na ng impeachment calendar si SP [Senate President]. Diba dinebate natin dati 'yun na 'forthwith.' Dapat nga hindi mo na hinintay ang June 2 pero siya na ang nasunod kasi lumipas na ang panahon,' he said. (In February, SP already released a calendar. We also debated the term 'forthwith.' He should not have waited for June 2 but he was followed as time passed.) For his part, attorney and constitutional law expert Domingo Cayosa said it seems as though Senate is dribbling the impeachment. 'Even if you look at the rules of the Senate itself, malinaw naman na kapag may [it is clear that if there is an] impeachment, it takes precedence over the ordinary legislative work,' he said. 'It's not fair to the accused, it's not fair to the prosecutors, it is not fair to the Filipino people,' he added. GMA Integrated News has reached out to Escudero for comment on the matter, but he said he will release a statement on Monday, June 2. According to House Assistant Majority Leader and Tingog party-list Representative Jude Acidre, he is optimistic that the impeachment trial will still push through, if not in 19th Congress then in the 20th, as seen in the United States where the impeachment trial process of the Philippines has pas been patterned. 'Pinakilala dun si President Bill Clinton. Na-impeach sa isang Kongreso at nagkaroon ng trial sa kabilang Kongreso. Gusto ko na lang panghawakan 'yung sinabi ni Senator Jinggoy Estrada na gagampanan ng Senado ang kanilang Constitutional duty na talakayin ang impeachment,' he said in a separate report by Jonathan Andal. (Most known is that of President Bill Clinton. He was impeached in one Congress and the trial was held in another. I trust what Senator Jinggoy Estrada said that the Senate will perform its Constitutional duty to take up the impeachment.) Acidre also called Duterte's remarks—likening her impeachment trial to a crucifixion—as drama. 'Hindi kailangan ng drama dito [There is no drama needed here]. We don't even have to resort to language such as that,' he said. 'Kung naniniwala ang ating Bise Presidente at ang kaniyang mga kakampi na wala silang kasalanan, na wala silang pananagutan, harapin nila [If the Vice President and her allies believe that they are innocent, if they do not have liabilities, they should face it],' he added. Hearings earlier revealed that the OVP and the Department of Education (DepEd), also previously headed by Duterte, submitted documents with wrong dates, signatures without names of signatories, and unreadable names of signatories to justify the disbursement of its confidential funds in 2022 and 2023. A House panel in December found that there was no PSA record of 'Mary Grace Piattos,' whose signature appeared the most in acknowledgement receipts for confidential funds of office under Vice President Sara Duterte. The House panel earlier offered a P1-million reward for any information on the individual. Duterte, for her part, earlier said she has not seen the acknowledgement receipts from confidential funds supposedly signed by 'Mary Grace Piattos.' Another article of impeachment against Duterte is her stating that she had contracted a killer to assassinate erstwhile ally President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. if she is killed. — Jon Viktor D.
