VP Sara: Reconciling with Marcos not a priority
'Unang-una, hindi muna siguro ako magsalita about reconciliation dahil hindi naman mahalaga siguro ang mga personal na problema... Ang mas mahalaga is 'yong taumbayan at iyong bayan natin,' she told reporters during an ambush interview at The Hague.
(First of all, I don't think I should speak about reconciliation for now because personal problems are not important. What's more important is the people and our country.)
VP Sara's comment comes days after Marcos disclosed that he is open to reconciling with the Dutertes.
''Oo, ako, ayoko ng gulo. Gusto ko magkasundo sa lahat ng tao. Mas maganda. Marami na kong kaaway, hindi ko kailangan ng kaaway, kailangan ko kaibigan,'' Marcos said in an interview with broadcaster Anthony Taberna.
(I don't want trouble. I want to get along with everyone. It's better. I already have many enemies, I don't need enemies, I need friends.)

Dad wants to take oath
VP Sara was in the Netherlands to visit her father, former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, who is detained at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague due to crimes against humanity charges.
She said she was able to see her father for an hour on Friday and that they talked about Eleksyon 2025.
'Na-share ko... na nanalo iyong dalawang PDP Laban na senator candidates, tapos iyong isang guest candidate - si (Rodante) Marcoleta, plus dalawang guest candidates from Alyansa, si Senator Camille Villar at Senator Imee Marcos.'
(I shared that two PDP Laban senator candidates won, along with guest candidate Rodante Marcoleta and two guest candidates from Alyansa – Senators Camille Villar and Imee Marcos.)
She also mentioned that her father wants to take his oath after winning the mayoral race in Davao.
'I want... Set me free and I will take an oath,' Sara said quoting, her father.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) earlier said it will ask the ICC to allow the former President to take oath as Davao City mayor while he is in detention in The Hague.
SWS survey
Duterte also addressed the recent Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey in which 88% of respondents said it was important for her to face the impeachment proceedings and answer the allegations.
'Oh, I totally agree. Kasama ako doon sa 88% na iyan... thankful sa opportunity na malinis iyong pangalan ko at masagot iyong mga akusasyon sa akin,' she said.
(I totally agree. I'm part of that 88%... I'm thankful for the opportunity to clear my name and respond to the accusations against me.)
The Vice President also said that the Senate's decision to move the presentation of the articles of impeachment hearings to June 11 has no effect on her.
'Wala naman siyang epekto sa akin... Iiwan na namin iyan sa mga lawyers namin, sa defense impeachment lawyers,' explained Duterte.
(It has no effect on me... we'll leave that to our lawyers, the defense impeachment lawyers.)
Imee
The Vice President, meanwhile, also mentioned that Senator Imee Marcos, who is also currently at The Hague, was not permitted to visit her father.
'Hindi siya pinayagan ng ICC na makabisita at makausap si dating Pangulong Rodrigoe, she said.
(I mentioned that she was not allowed by the ICC to visit and speak with former President Duterte.)
Sara said her father was hoping to speak with Senator Marcos, but he is hopeful that there will be "another time."
'Unang-una, nagpasalamat siya. At pangalawa, sabi niya gusto nga daw niya sanang makausap si Senator Imee kaso hindi nga daw payagan pero sabi niya, 'There will be another time for that.''
(He was thankful. He wanted to talk to Senator Imee but wasn't allowed. He said, 'There will be another time for that.) —VAL, GMA Integrated News

Dad Rodrigo Duterte in good condition under ICC custody, says Baste
Former President Rodrigo Duterte is currently in good condition while remaining under the custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC) detention facility in The Hague, Netherlands, acting Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte said Tuesday. The younger Duterte said his 80-year-old father is in sound mind but has since gotten thinner due to loss of appetite. "Any other person that would be in detention would be depressed and you would have trouble eating because you won't want to eat. You would lose your appetite," the acting mayor said. "But cognitively, he's okay, but he's not a young person, he's old. He is ok physically but he has lost weight because, as how I see it, he hasn't been eating properly due to lack of appetite," he said. The younger Duterte also said he is set to fly to The Netherlands to visit the ex-Philippine leader in detention. "What's being done to him now is very unjust. But, it's ok. He is still our mayor," he said. "I am the acting mayor. He has been mayor here for several years already. Let's just follow his direction as we have done so in the past. That's what being a Davaoeño is," he added. Duterte was arrested in the Philippines by local authorities on March 11 based on a warrant issued by the ICC. He is currently detained at the Scheveningen Prison in The Hague on crimes against humanity charges in connection with the killings under his war on drugs when he was mayor of Davao City and when he was president of the Philippines. Earlier this month, his defense team has asked the Appeals Chamber of the ICC to disqualify Prosecutor Karim Khan from the case on the ground that he "failed to disclose a grievous conflict of interest." Government records showed that there were over 6,000 drug suspects killed in police operations during the previous administration's drug war. Human rights organizations, however, said that the death toll may have reached 30,000 due to unreported incidents. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News

Marcos yet to talk to stakeholders, Church reps about online gambling —Palace
Malacañang on Tuesday said President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr.'s meeting with concerned stakeholders to tackle online gambling has yet to be scheduled. At a press briefing, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro was asked when can the public expect a final decision about the policy on online gambling so that any changes can be factored into the spending plan for next year. ''Actually, nakausap po natin ang DBM [Department of Budget and Management] at ngayon po kasi sila magsusumite ng budget o ng NEP, at ang panukala naman ng Pangulo na makausap ang mga stakeholders kasama na po ang representative mula sa mga simbahan ay hindi pa po ito nai-schedule as of the moment,'' Castro said. (We've talked to DBM and today, they will submit the NEP. The President's plan to talk with stakeholders, including representatives from the Church, has not been scheduled yet.) ''Ito pa lamang po ay kasasabi ng ating Pangulo lalong-lalo na doon sa MPC [Malacañang Press Corps] sa India. So, mag-i-schedule pa lamang po ang Pangulo para po makausap ang lahat ng maaaring mga concerned parties para maisagawa ang sapat na pag-aaral patungkol sa online gaming,'' she added. (He just mentioned this including to those members of the MPC who went to India. The President will still schedule this meeting with concerned parties to ensure a thorough study as regards online gambling.) Castro, however, ensured that Marcos' meeting with stakeholders would be conducted as soon as possible. ''Sa madali't madaling panahon ay gagawin po iyan ng Pangulo,'' the Palace official said. (The President will schedule this planned consultation as soon as possible.) Marcos earlier disclosed that he is eyeing the creation of a body that will formulate the government's policy on online gambling, adding that he is looking to include Catholic bishops in the process because of their recent pronouncements on the issue. Marcos emphasized that the problem is not online gambling but the social effects on the children and those who are addicted to gambling. Several lawmakers have pushed for a ban on the industry given worries that addiction is soaring, with more gamblers drawn to online, even accelerated further by advertisements on social media and e-wallet platforms. The lawmakers have also proposed stricter regulations for online gambling, as they said a total ban would only lead to the public heading to illegal operations. —KG, GMA Integrated News

Marcos: Walang lugar ang katiwalian sa kapulisan
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Tuesday vowed that his administration would never condone wrongdoings among police ranks, noting that rogue cops will be dealt with in accordance with the law. During the 124th Police Service Anniversary held at the Philippine National Police headquarters in Camp Crame, Marcos said part of the threat to national security are the police officers who had committed wrongdoings and abuse of power. ''Huwag din natin kalimutan na bahagi ng banta sa seguridad ang mga nasa hanay na bumabaluktot mismo ng ating layunin. Aanhin pa ang pinakamodernong kagamitan kung may ilang pulis pa rin ang umaabuso sa kapangyarihan?'' Marcos said during the 124th Police Service Anniversary. (Let us not forget that part of the security threats are the rouge cops who do not abide by their duty. What is the use of the most modern assets if there are some police scalawags?) ''We will continue to investigate and hold these people accountable within the bounds of the law. We do not condone wrongdoings among those who are sworn to uphold the law and to protect the citizens of our Republic. Inuulit ko, walang lugar ang katiwalian sa ating kapulisan (I repeat, corruption has no place in the police force),'' he added. Though the rate of crime incidents had gone down, Marcos said the figure alone could not allay public fear. He said the number of crime incidents from June 2024 to June 2025 decreased as compared to the preceding period. ''As public servants, we do not ask people to celebrate statistics if their experiences tell a different story,'' Marcos said. ''We must regain the trust of the public through more decisive and responsive actions. I believe the PNP is now on its right track,'' the President said. Further, Marcos said the government would continue to modernize the PNP as criminals, at present, use technology for their illegal schemes. So far, the police force has drones and other advanced technologies that complement police operations, enabling the cops' capabilities to protect, to monitor, and to respond with greater precision. ''But technology will never replace the importance of your presence on the ground. These tools are only effective as the men and women who wield those tools,'' Marcos said. ''Be assured that the government stands with you, behind you all – every hour of every day – as you continue to carry out your mission and build a safer and more peaceful Bagong Pilipinas,'' he added. —KG, GMA Integrated News
