International Series Morocco returns to Rabat with top contenders

The Suna day ago
The third International Series Morocco starts tomorrow from July 3-6, returning to Royal Golf Dar Es Salam – the event's regular home.
New Zealand's Ben Campbell is back to defend the title he won last year, following a sudden-death play-off with American John Catlin, as is Jazz Janewattananond from Thailand, winner of the inaugural event in 2022.
It will be the one and only stop by the Asian Tour on the African continent this season and promises to be another magical week in Morocco's capital city Rabat. The Asian Development Tour has just spent two weeks in Marrakech, for the first time, so the momentum has been building ahead of this exciting week.

Diego Luna's 2 goals lift USA past Guatemala into Gold Cup final

MISSOURI: Diego Luna scored twice in the first 15 minutes and the US men's national team held on for a 2-1 victory over Guatemala in St. Louis on Wednesday to advance to the final of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. Luna tallied in the fourth and 15th minutes before Olger Escobar made it 2-1 in the 80th minute. American goalkeeper Matt Freese made four saves, including a diving stop at the left post on Joes Morales in the second minute of second-half stoppage time. The US will play either Honduras or Mexico, who play later Thursday, on Sunday in Houston. Luna, a 5-foot-8 Real Salt Lake midfielder, scored his first US goal on Sunday against Costa Rica and leads the team in goal contributions in 2025 with seven (three goals, four assists). At this time a year ago, he was miffed that he was not selected of the US Olympic team for the Paris Games. Now, he is a mainstay, at least for this iteration of a team that does not include most of the European-based players. Still, Luna appears to be playing his way onto the roster for the 2026 World Cup. He opened the scoring with his quick reaction to rebound of a long shot by Luca de la Torre. Goalkeeper Kenderson Navarro fumbled the ball straight to Luna, who brought it down with his right foot before delivering a left-footed strike. Luna silenced the pro-Guatemala even further with his laser from 22 yards after taking a pass from Malik Tillman. The desperate Guatemalans dominated the rest of the half, outshooting the US 12-2 over the final 20 minutes. Navarro was the story early in the second half as the US looked for a third goal. First, he parried a header by Patrick Agyemang in the 62nd minute, then two minutes later Agyemang broke free but couldn't get the ball past the keeper. The saves proved huge when Escobar dribbled to the top of the box and slipped a shot through several Americans. This was the nations' first-ever meeting in a Gold Cup knockout round and Guatemala's first appearance in a Gold Cup semifinal since 1996.--REUTERS

Motor racing-Brown rejects 'two-horse race' assessment, expects Max move

Formula One F1 - Miami Grand Prix - Miami International Autodrome, Miami, Florida, United States - May 4, 2025 McLaren chief executive Zak Brown arrives before the race REUTERS/Brian Snyder/File Photo LONDON (Reuters) -McLaren boss Zak Brown dismissed suggestions the Formula One title was a two-horse race between his drivers and said Red Bull's Max Verstappen remained a contender for a fifth championship in a row and was also likely to join Mercedes. McLaren's Oscar Piastri leads teammate Lando Norris by 15 points, with Verstappen now 61 points behind the Australian after 11 of 24 races. Red Bull boss Christian Horner said in Austria at the weekend, after Verstappen was shunted out on the opening lap, that the battle was effectively over before the mid-point of the season. "It looks very much like a two-horse race. They (McLaren) have got a cushion to the rest of the field," Horner told reporters. But Brown told Reuters at an event for McLaren fans in London's Trafalgar Square that it was far too early to say that. "I think it's a four maybe even a five (horse race)," said the American. "We're in a great position but we know how quickly things can change in Formula One. Max isn't that far behind and he's that awesome, and then George (Russell) isn't far behind him and you can definitely see Mercedes is getting tougher and tougher and are not far away. "And nor is Ferrari so I think (Charles) Leclerc, Max and George, it's way too early to not have them in the race. "Maybe ask me that question in another five races and I'll answer it differently. But right now I see those five all in contention for the championship." Verstappen has been linked repeatedly with Mercedes, who have acknowledged talks with the Dutch driver about a future switch, with 2027 looking more likely. Brown has said before that he expected Verstappen to join Mercedes eventually and he stood by that. "There's a lot of noise. I'm a believer of where there's smoke there's fire. No one's kind of denying anything, no one's making firm 'I'm gonna be in this car next year'," he explained. "So in my experience and reading the tea leaves I feel like something's going on, maybe something's even already done ... it's what makes Formula One fun -- there's always some storyline for everyone to follow, so I think I stand by my prediction." Tennis-Norrie returns to favourite Wimbledon stage to stun Tiafoe

Tennis - Wimbledon - All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, London, Britain - July 2, 2025 Britain's Cameron Norrie reacts during his second round match against Frances Tiafoe of the U.S. REUTERS/Toby Melville LONDON (Reuters) -Britain's Cameron Norrie returned to his favourite patch of Wimbledon turf to stun American 12th seed Frances Tiafoe and reach the third round with a 4-6 6-4 6-3 7-5 win on Wednesday. Court One might lack the aura of the All England Club's historic Centre Court, but Norrie loves it, having won three matches there during his semi-final run in 2022. Norrie's ranking has slipped to 61 and he lost in the first round of both his warm-up events on grass, but after an excursion on Court 18 on Monday he was back on the sleek 12,345 arena for his clash with Tiafoe. Initially it was the free-hitting Tiafoe who looked right at home, taking a tight opening set with a single break of serve. But everything changed at the end of the second. Norrie found himself in big trouble when serving at 4-4, going down 0-40. But he reeled off five points in a row and broke in the next game with a superb backhand winner to snatch the set. Left-hander Norrie, who had never previously beaten a top-20 player at Wimbledon, bristled with energy in the third set, dictating the points as Tiafoe began to fade. Norrie failed to capitalise on one break of serve as he allowed Tiafoe to reply, but another break proved decisive as he moved to within one set of victory. Tiafoe left the court for seven minutes for a bathroom break before the start of the fourth set but Norrie refused to be put off his stride and broke serve for a 4-3 lead. Again Tiafoe managed to respond, but Norrie was relentless as he again pounced on the American's serve before completing victory to reach the Wimbledon third round for the fourth time. Tiafoe's exit means 14 of the 32 men's seeds are out of the tournament less than halfway through the first week. (Reporting by Martyn Herman, editing by Ed Osmond)
