Alpine skiing-Italy's Brignone still not sure she will be fit for Olympics
MILAN :Reigning World Cup overall champion Federica Brignone cast doubts over her participation in next year's Winter Olympics on home snow in Italy two months after she suffered serious injuries.
The 34-year-old, one of Italy's leading medal hopes at the Games, fractured her left leg and tore knee ligaments when she crashed into a gate during a race in the Italian championships.
"I would like to say that I will be present at the next Olympics, but as of today I don't know. I am working for that too, but my health comes first of all," Brignone told reporters in the medical centre in Turin on Tuesday.
"It is difficult to make any predictions, because there are many steps and we don't have any precise schedule," she said, adding that she remained confident and positive.
Brignone, who is walking with clutches, underwent surgery after the crash in April.
"As of today we can rule out a further operation, Federica had a major injury but the ACL is fine," said Andrea Panzeri, president of the medical staff of Italy's winter sports federation.

"I'm ready for anything, but now my first option is Paris because I'm fine, the fans love me and the team loves me. I hope to stay there for many years." Donnarumma has not always convinced Italian fans and media, despite his penalty shootout saves leading to Italy's Euro 2020 triumph, with the keeper often criticised for errors. Now, however, he feels he is in the best form of his career, and a lot of that is down to PSG manager Luis Enrique. "When you return to your own country and you're not welcomed as you deserve, it's not easy," Donnarumma said. "Now I'm happy to have found confidence, balance and mentality. I am happy to have convinced all Italians. "With Luis Enrique I found balance on everything. He gave me a lot especially on a mental level." The Rossoneri, who sacked coach Sergio Conceicao after missing out on European football next term with an eighth-placed league finish in the recently concluded season, will have a familiar face at the helm when they embark on their pre-season tour in the Republic in July. Veteran coach Massimiliano Allegri, 57, has returned to the club and the Italian's first assignment will be a friendly against Arsenal at the National Stadium on July 23. It is part of the Singapore Festival of Football, which will also feature an Arsenal-Newcastle United friendly at the same venue on July 27. The return of Allegri, who guided the Rossoneri to the Serie A title in 2011 before winning the league and Coppa Italia five times apiece and reaching the Champions League final twice with Juventus, has sparked optimism among the Milan faithful, including legend Franco Baresi.
