Erin Patterson's Leongatha house can't be sold after court put restraining order on its sale
The family home in Gibson St, Leongatha in country Victoria is now subject to a Supreme Court restraining order on its sale in case her victims' families make a compensation claim.
Victims can apply for a compensation or restitution order under the Sentencing Act 1991.
The prosecution applied for a restraining order on Patterson's $1m home on a hectare block on July 16 under confiscation legislation, the Herald Sun reported.
Patterson's parents-in-law, Don and Gail Patterson, and Gail's sister Heather Wilkinson died from multiple organ failure linked to mushroom poisoning in the week following the lunch on July 29, 2023.
Heather's husband, Ian Wilkinson, was the only lunch guest to survive after he too became seriously ill after the meal.
Prosecutors argued the only reasonable explanation for what happened is Patterson knowingly seeking out death cap mushrooms and including them in the beef Wellington, intending to kill her or seriously injure her guests.
Her defence had argued Patterson accidentally included the deadly mushrooms and acted poorly out of panic she would be wrongly blamed.
The keenly watched 10 week trial ended on July 7 when after seven days of deliberations, the jury unanimously found Patterson guilty of three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.
Patterson, 50, is yet to be sentenced.

Police believe they have located the body of a missing Newcastle woman who disappeared three months ago. Meilee Chen, 68, was last seen in the Newcastle area in May, when she could not be located or contacted police were notified and an investigation commenced. Police and SES crews searched Martins Creek in Birmingham Gardens and Jesmond in May and July, but Ms Chen was not located. Police found a body during a search of a property at Birmingham Gardens about 9am on Thursday. The Daily Telegraph reported specialist detectives and forensic officers were at the property investigating the death. A police spokesman said while the body has not yet been formally identified, it is believed to be Ms Chen. 'A report will be prepared for the Coroner,' a spokesman said.

Simon Lara: Notorious ‘fake seizure guy' handed community order for beach act
A 'notorious' man known for faking seizures in public places and asking strangers to sit on him has issued an apology, saying he had no idea of the impact of his actions on a man. Simon Lara, 43, appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday, after pleading guilty to a single charge of public nuisance. Lara had initially been facing a second charge of sexual assault by compelled sexual touching, however the court was told this had been withdrawn. The charge related to an incident on the Bay Trail at Sandridge Beach in Port Melbourne on February 3, 2025. In a statement, the man affected by Lara's actions said the incident had left him feeling shame and humiliation. He told the court he'd moved to Melbourne three years prior from Brisbane and was unfamiliar with 'fake seizure guy' until he'd conducted online research following the beach incident. 'After speaking with friends I was laughed at and ridiculed, they couldn't believe I had never heard of this guy before,' he said. 'Since this incident I am less inclined to help people in public … I'm not willing to assist anyone in public who appears to be distressed or needs help.' The man said he no longer visited the beachfront out of fear of running into Lara or other passers-by who, at the time, thought he was assaulting Lara. Responding to the statement, Lara's lawyer Jamie Bridgland said her client was 'shocked about the significant impact this had on the victim'. 'He is extremely remorseful and wanted to pass onto the victim he is regretful and sorry,' she said. Ms Bridgland noted Lara had 'quite significant vulnerabilities' and had received threats and abuse following online commentary about his actions. Lara was sentenced to an 18-month community corrections order with treatment for his complex mental health needs and judicial monitoring. Handing down the sentence, Magistrate William Parker said he took into account Lara's 'extremely traumatic background' and diagnoses including autism, anxiety and OCD. But Mr Parker noted Lara had a 'poor history' and the offending represented him taking advantage of a good Samaritan just walking in public. 'The purpose of this CCO (community corrections order) and justice plan is so we can break this cycle of you returning to back to court,' he said. 'This is the best chance to move forward.' In Court, Lara said he wanted the prosecution to pass onto the person affected his apologies and that he had 'no idea' of the impact from his actions. 'I'm very shocked … if they want to continue to go to the beach, I'm not going to go there,' he said. Mr Parker responded saying he'd taken those comments as a sincere sign of remorse. 'What would give me great comfort is just don't do it again,' he said.

Driver gets ‘instant karma' after wild hit-and-run
A driver's reckless attempt to flee a hit-and-run has ended in a spectacular crash at a busy intersection in Melbourne last Thursday. The chaos began around 6.20pm, when a driver in a grey Kia suddenly swerved in front of another driver while attempting a U-turn in Hampton Park, in the city's south-east. The startled man, who filmed the entire incident on his dashcam, shouted 'what the f**k' and 'pull over' while repeatedly flashing his headlights towards the erratic motorist. The situation escalated moments later when both drivers pulled up to a red light. The man can be seen exiting his car in a bid to confront the driver of the Kia who in response, crawls closer to the busy intersection. The attempted getaway quickly turned disastrous when the Kia sped through the red light, colliding with a white car between Hallam and Pound Street. Footage then shows the Kia, in what feels like slow motion, flip onto its roof while lanes of busy traffic pass. Thankfully, bystanders confirmed that 'everyone was fine after it.' The video, which was posted to Dashcam owners Australia, has gathered over 28,000 likes – with many branding the incident as 'instant karma.' 'Now that's karma … I feel for the other drivers though,' wrote one user 'Karma at its best,' said another. 'How would you explain that to your insurance company?,' said a third. In a statement to Victoria Police said: 'Police are investigating a series of collisions in Hampton Park on 31 August. 'It is understood a grey Kia Sportage station wagon was travelling south along Hallam Road when it conducted a U-turn and collided with a grey MG MG4 about 6.20pm. 'Both vehicles continued north along Hallam Rd before coming to a stop at the intersection with Pound Road. 'The driver of the MG, a 37-year-old Hampton Park man, approached the Kia which then took off through the intersection and collided with a white Toyota Corolla travelling along Pound Road, causing the Kia to roll. 'The driver of the Kia, a 29-year-old year old Narre Warren South woman, was transported to hospital with minor injuries. 'She is expected to be charged on summons with several traffic offences. 'The driver of the MG and the driver of the Toyota, 55-year-old Torquay man, were not injured,' they said. Just two months ago, a wild roadside brawl broke out in Melbourne between what appeared to be two couples throwing fists at an intersection. The fight, which was captured on dashcam footage, showed a man leaving his car to approach a silver Ford sedan, prompting the woman on the passenger's side to also get out in traffic. Shocked onlookers witnessed the first man grab the driver by the shirt while his female partner scuffled with the other woman, who attempted to stop the fight.
