Canada just falls short of bronze against Spain at FIBA U19 Women's World Cup
Canada was down two entering the fourth quarter and was up 67-65 with just over two minutes left. Ada Toribio tied it for Spain with a layup with 2:02 remaining.
After a missed floater by Canada's Cearah Parchment with 1:31 left, Okafor hit the dagger to give her a game-high of 23 points.
Avery Howell hit one of her two free throws with 1:07 remaining but Canada fell short of inching any closer.
Canada fell to Australia 87-75 in the semifinals on Saturday resulting in its appearance in the bronze-medal game. Spain lost to the United States 70-58 in the other semifinal.
Syla Swords led Canada, which won bronze in 2023, with 20 points. The University of Michigan star finished as Canada's leading scorer in the tournament with 15.9 per contest.

Canada's Masse finishes fourth in 100m backstroke at world swimming championships
SINGAPORE – Canadian Kylie Masse narrowly missed the podium in the women's 100-metre backstroke final at the World Swimming Championships on Tuesday, finishing fourth. The five-time Olympic medallist finished in 58.42 seconds, just 0.27 seconds behind American Katharine Berkoff, who claimed bronze. Create Account Bouchard, who reached the Wimbledon final and two other Grand Slam semifinals in 2014, announced this month that she would retire after a final appearance in her hometown tournament. She then opened it with her first WTA Tour victory since 2023 — and the 300th of her career — and advanced to face No. 17 seed Belinda Bencic. Bouchard reached No. 5 in the rankings in 2014 but the 31-year-old has largely switched to pickleball, playing just one match this season before being given a wild card into the Montreal tournament. After splitting the first two sets, Bouchard broke the 82nd-ranked Arango twice — first with a forehand, then from the Colombian's missed volley — to build a 5-1 lead in the decisive third. Arango broke back with Bouchard serving for the match to make it 5-2, but the Canadian went up 40-love in the ensuing game. Arango then sent her backhand wide on Bouchard's second match point. Bouchard waved and blew kisses to the crowd after the win. 'I told my family that if I won, I would come out of retirement,' she said from center court. 'I felt like the old Genie out there.'
