Ferrari unveils new 'Amalfi' petrol coupe ahead of EV launch
The eight-cylinder, 3.85-litre Amalfi replaces and upgrades the successful 2019 Roma in the entry segment of Ferrari's range and comes just two months after the launch of the 296 Speciale hybrid car and its convertible version.
Ferrari will begin unveiling its first EV in October this year in a three-stage process culminating in a world premiere next spring. However, a second EV model that would aim for wider sales is not expected before 2028, because of a substantial lack of demand for high-performance luxury EVs, sources have told Reuters.
The Amalfi has similar dimensions to the Roma, differing in its exterior look from its predecessor mainly for its redesigned front.
Chief Marketing and Commercial Officer Enrico Galliera said the Amalfi was a true Ferrari sportscar in terms of high performance, technology and driving pleasure, but it also had a "very elegant soul".
"It allows for a different driving experience, less extreme but equally fun, it's suitable for a wide range of driving conditions," he said.
The Amalfi is purely powered by an internal combustion engine which delivers 640 horsepower for a top speed of 320 kilometres per hour. It features a rear integrated active spoiler, contributing to the car's stability at high speed, the company said.
Like the Roma, the Amalfi is a 2+ coupe, meaning it has two small rear seats.
The starting price for the new model is set at 240,000 euros ($281,000), with first deliveries to clients scheduled in the first quarter of next year, starting from Europe. Deliveries to U.S. clients are expected to start three to six months later, at a higher price due to import tariffs.
Orders for the Amalfi are being opened on Tuesday but Ferrari's dealers already received lots of expressions of interest from clients, Galliera said.
The Roma coupe has gone out of production, while its retractable-top version, that was introduced in 2023, currently remains in Ferrari's range.

Bentley V8s Get A Growl When Bentley dropped the W12 engine, it robbed the world of one of the most incredible sounds in the automotive sphere. Emissions regulations have made such oversized engines all but impossible, but Bentley has a solution, of sorts. Thanks to a collaboration with Akrapovič, all V8 High Peformance Hybrid and Ultra Performance Hybrid models – Continental GT, Continental GT Convertible, and Flying Spur – now have the option of a titanium exhaust system that adds aural drama and subtracts weight. The newly launched Bentayga Speed already has an option like this, which Bentley says saves up to 22 pounds of weight compared to the standard system (depending on which model it is fitted to). Rorty New Exhaust Can Still Show Restraint As you'd expect in a six-figure luxury vehicle, this system is valved on each rear silencer so that buyers have a choice between a subtle, restrained exhaust note and a raucous one. The adaptive system is connected to the car's ECU so that Sport mode uncorks the exhaust automatically, which Bentley says produces 'a thrilling, full-throated rasp under hard acceleration and distinctive burbles on overrun.' The new exhaust is also said to improve the sound on start-up and exhibits arrange of tones throughout the rev range, 'from a commanding V8 roar to a smooth, high-frequency sound.' Naturally, the engineers also focused on heat resistance, so this system is a mix of titanium and 'special super alloys.' Pure titanium, as good as it looks and sounds, doesn't deal with sustained high temperatures very well. Akra Exhaust Looks The Part The exhaust system is finished with a quartet of tips, the innermost of which bear the Bentley name, while the outers call attention to Akrapovič. The black script appears atop a sandblasted and coated scratch-resistant brass-colored matte surface, which looks very similar to the finish of the exhaust created for the Continental Speed W12 back in 2021, and we have to admit that the Slovenian company's trademark hue adds a touch of class (not that any Bentley is lacking in that regard). Pricing has not been announced, but this is the company that created an all-new type of exhaust for the Koenigsegg Regera, so it won't be cheap. For those with the means, the new Akrapovič exhaust can be ordered when commissioning a new Bentley or retrofitted after delivery has been taken. For those of us with shallower pockets, Akrapovič also provides systems for the Golf GTI Edition 50 and other special-edition VWs, as well as BMW M cars, AMGs, and more. Don't hike tax again, pleads Currys boss: Alex Baldock warns Chancellor another raid will hurt jobs and lead to higher prices
The boss of Currys has warned Chancellor Rachel Reeves that further tax hikes will hurt growth and jobs as retailers are still reeling from her last Budget. Chief executive Alex Baldock said the Government should 'think very carefully before they make the situation any worse'. But shares in Currys soared as he insisted the UK's biggest electronics retailer could 'swim against the tide'. Baldock's warning came as experts poured cold water on Labour's claims to have fixed the economy since coming to power. Leading economists warned of the inevitability of tax rises after Keir Starmer's welfare bill humiliation blew a £5billion hole in the public finances. 'Recent policy decisions mean that in the absence of tax hikes or alternative spending cuts, fiscal rules would be broken in the autumn,' Bruna Skarica, chief UK economist at Morgan Stanley, said.'We think tax hikes look most likely.' But Baldock warned that would result in fewer jobs, less investment and higher prices for consumers. He said Currys cut back on hiring after Reeves raised employer national insurance contributions and the minimum wage. Baldock said: 'We want to be helping to grow the economy and bring investment into the UK.... retailers would like to do it and would be able to do more of it with a more helpful policy environment. 'The tax burden retailers already suffer is dampening the contribution we could make, any further tax burden would further dampen growth, investment and employment and increase prices.' The National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR) spelled out the Chancellor's predicament, saying she had sowed uncertainty with a prolonged gap between the election and her first Budget and an 'erosion of confidence'. As public finance figures worsened, firms worried about further tax rises, making them reluctant to invest and hire. And with U-turns, from winter fuel payments to welfare, as well as plans to hike defence spending, Reeves must find money from somewhere. Ben Caswell, economist at NIESR, said it was likely to mean 'significant tax rises' with current policies 'not sustainable'. Currys yesterday reported annual profits of £162million, 37 per cent up on a year earlier. Group revenue rose 3 per cent to £8.7billion in the 12 months to May 3. UK sales were driven by demand for Currys' mobile phone and computing businesses. It also reported that health and beauty products were growing fast. The recent heatwave has boosted sales of fans, air conditioning units and barbecues. The balance sheet is the strongest in a decade, with net cash of £184million. Currys reinstated its dividend for the first time in two years as it proposed a payout of 1.5p per share. Shares closed 7.1 per cent, or 8.4p, higher at 126.9p.
