The captain of France's 2024 Olympic champion heroes, Paulin Riva, has targeted Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens glory to complete a glittering treble of titles.

Inspired by Antoine Dupont, France won last year's HSBC SVNS Series championship, before striking gold in the Paris Games.
Minus Dupont, the French were narrowly beaten by New Zealand in the Hong Kong final 12 months ago. Since their seismic summer, Benoit Baby has replaced Jerome Daret as head coach, while Dupont and Aaron Grandidier, who was included in the 2023-24 series dream team, are among those who have made way for younger blood.
The imposing 30-year-old Riva, however, is still going strong and hungry for a landmark success at Kai Tak Stadium's first Hong Kong Sevens.
'I want to [complete the big three], and we want to grow in every tournament,' Riva told the Post. 'We have a younger team, with new players and staff, and they want to win a championship, and then, in three years, the Olympics.

'This is the biggest tournament of the season, in the new stadium with a big atmosphere. Everyone wants to play in Hong Kong, it's the oldest tournament. So it's very important to try to win here, because we never have.

"Overall really happy with that time and always just trying to keep pushing forward," McIntosh said after her record-breaking display. "It's awesome. 200 individual medley is my main race out of my top five or six races where I really have to execute perfectly." "There's no room for mistakes and it's kind of a sprint event for me, so I'm really happy with that. It gives me a lot of confidence heading into Singapore," added McIntosh, referring to next month's World Championships. Asked how she had prepared herself for Monday's effort after a gruelling weekend, she added: "Just recovering, sleeping as much as possible and eating a lot. And also mentally calming myself down and taking it one race at a time – I've had a lot of practice at that these past few years." McIntosh laid the foundations for her assault on the record with flawless opening sections in the butterfly and backstroke before an improved breaststroke – her weakest discipline – left her on world record pace. Photo: RTHK Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law on Monday said all television stations in Hong Kong will broadcast the upcoming National Games. At a Legco panel meeting, sports sector lawmaker Kenneth Fok asked if local broadcasters would be able to televise the events. Law said the programmes will be produced by China Central Television (CCTV), but all television stations in the SAR could broadcast the events live. "For Guangdong and Macau, CCTV will be producing the shows. Hong Kong is not an exception," she said. "According to the plan, all television stations in Hong Kong will broadcast the events. I know that they have their work plans, and they are working to show more events to the public." Law added that Hong Kong-themed merchandise for the National Games is expected to be launched later this month and will be available at stores from July. Hong Kong, Macau and Guangdong will be co-hosting the Games, and Hong Kong will stage eight competition events.

Photo: AFP Next year's NBA All-Star Game will feature a "USA versus the World" format, NBA commissioner Adam Silver confirmed. The move comes after last February's revamped tournament-style format with celebrity-picked rosters was seen as a flop by players and drew relatively low US television ratings. Asked on Fox Sports One about having a USA against the World format for the elite-level contest, the first word out of Silver's mouth was "yes." "Next year, as part of our new media deal, the All-Star Game returns to NBC and it so happens that next season will be smack in the middle of the Winter Olympics," Silver said. "So the game will be on NBC and the very day we're on, the lead-in will be Winter Olympic events and coming out of the All-Star Game – which is now going to be in the afternoon instead of the evening – there will be more Olympic events. "So what better time to feature some form of USA against the world?" Such an All-Star format offers the prospect of Canada's Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, this season's NBA Most Valuable Player from Oklahoma City, going against American Tyrese Haliburton of NBA Finals rival Indiana. It could offer LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry as US teammates against such global stars as Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokic and Victor Wembanyama. Silver said while no format was set, the NBA looked at the success of the NHL's Four-Nations Face-Off last February, which gained great attention for a USA-Canada rivalry. "I'm not exactly sure what the format will be yet," Silver said. "Obviously paid a lot of attention to what the NHL did, which was a huge success."
